I will be buying the Nvidia 5070 TI over the AMD RX 9070.

The RX 9070 will be released for $600 and will be the equivalent of a 4070 TI, LOL, while the 5070 TI will be faster than the 4080 for $750.

RIP AMD once again.

Good cooler, mobo, ram, psu.
Way overspending on the 9800X3D, NVME, and case (though it's pretty subjective). The 5080 is going the worst of the 5000 series, not even as fast the 4090. I'd advise pending reviews either to drop down to the 4080S or 5070 Ti or say fuck it and go for the 5090.

Nvidia has dethroned Microsoft as the largest corporation on earth several times last year while amd barely manages to stay in the top 50 of SP500 in the middle of a massive bubble in spite of being one of the like 5 companies making chips that can ai good. Nvidia is absolutely drowning in cash and sports a healthy corporate culture to boot, both these things mean the most talented people in the industry either work there already or are competing for a job there. Why would AMD be able to outmaneuver Nvidia? Of course they're getting bent over by price competition in their little bid to make a mainstream gpu. 5070 is priced to fuck their asses and leave little margin for Nvidia but they also don't care because they are printing infinite money with their higher end and enterprise offerings.

The most important asset for any of these companies is talent. Nvidia is absolutely rolling in it compared to amd's Radeon team. Just like AMDs cpu team is rolling it compared to the sinking trash barge that is Intel where all the talent is rapidly fleeing due to the poor leadership and beyond god awful corporate culture.

So I'm probably going to upgrade to a 5070 ti when they come out. This is my first foray into trying to understand computer specs. I've been doing research and comparing gaming benchmarks, am I correct that high end gaming cpus are kind of a meme? They're essentially only for people who have an insanely powerful gpu but are committed to not going above 1080p for some reason right? I'd be better off grabbing like a 14600kf rather than paying a gorillian leafbucks for an x3d?

In a completely new build, an extra $250 to go from 5070 Ti to 5080 is better value when the build cost is already high before the GPU

16GB VRAM is fine if you're going to use DLSS even at 4K
If you're using native 4K and turning on everything to Ultra + RT/PT + FG, maybe 16GB VRAM could be an issue but no one can say with certainty. At least not as a general statement for all games.

That comment about SSDs and NVMe is nonsensical. Ignore it.

I've never had issues running BG3 + a bunch of other shit and streaming Youtube with 32GB. If you want to just be 100% sure you have enough RAM, 64GB will do it but 2x24GB will also be good enough too.

>Did Nvidia Hire Online Actors to Promote Their Products?
>About a week ago, The Consumerist stumbled upon claims made by various gaming websites that graphics chip manufacturer Nvidia, in cooperation with the Arbuthnot Entertainment Group (AEG), had seeded various gaming and PC hardware enthusiast sites with pro-Nvidia shills. That is to say, that AEG would hire employees to create ‘personas’ in various gaming communities, slowly building up the trust of other members by frequent posting unrelated to Nvidia, to later cash in that trust with message board postings talking up the positive qualities of Nvidia’s products.

I must admit DP2.1 is more of a soft want than a requirement and the most easy criteria for me to drop
I just wanted to have it because the 50 series will come with 2.1 out and maybe there would be goodies that would only work with 2.1
Otherwise yeah, the GPU having 2.1 is enough as I would have to change my monitor if i wanted even higher refresh rates or resolutions anyways, so future proofing doesn't make sense

> PC:

Ryzen 7 2700x
Gigabyte Aorus X470 Ultra Gaming
Corsair Vengeance LPX DDR4 3000 2x8GB CL15
Gigabyte GeForce RTX 2060 Windforce OC 6GB
Samsung 970 EVO Plus 500GB SSD NVMe M.2
Corsair Hydro H100x
EVGA Supernova G3 850W 80 Plus Gold
Corsair Carbide 275R USB 3.0

I've seen some second hand 3080Ti FE for 450-500€ and there is a new Ryzen 9 5950x (I updated BIOS and can usen them) on Amazon for 300€ (they go for 250€ second hand so for 50€ difference I would buy it new); 50€ more for the same 2 sticks of ram I have to make it 32gb 3000mhz cl15 and a Dell G2725D making it a total ~1000€.

Is it a good upgrade to be able to play 1440p for another 5 years using most of my current pc or should I just keep psu+case+ssd and do a whole new setup with AM5/LGA1700 and new gen of cards? Is it possible with 1000€? I'm tired of TN panel and 1080p it looks like shit.

Try to get the serial number of the card you're about to buy, you might find that it is still under warranty.
I have an ASUS TUF bought 600 eurobucks last year and warranty runs until june 2025.

It should be mostly fine as the 3080Ti came out after the mining craze so they won't be burnt.

All IPS panels have that, some do have local dimming. But I feel like people whine about it too much, you let the screen settle for a week or two after buying and it's usually half gone since it's not compressed in the box anymore. And it really really isn't that obvious unless the screen goes all black, which isn't a lot of the time.

We were talking about motion clarity and VAs are objectively the worst at that.
They're a nice alternative to budget IPS if you want good contrasts for game/media visuals and are aware of the flaws. The latest panels have little to no perceptible black smearing when overdrive is probably configured but still too much for backlight strobing (the smearing turns into sharp "black afterimages" which, while faint, are pronounced enough to cause eye strain).

Bad black-to-gray response times (smearing) are caused by the very geometry of VA liquid crystals, they can't be magically fixed. You're just coping because you can't afford OLED, but your monitor smears and has shit blacks whether you like it or not.

Currently, my computer is in a little cage that's attached to the underside of my desk, so it's off the floor but also out of the way. Heck, the glass side panel is facing away from me, so I can't even see it. I picked this case because it was a great price and was rated well, so all of the RGB vomit it spews out largely goes to waste. It does look cool in passing, though.

I'm mostly thinking about in the future, several years from now, when I finally pay off my house. I want to build a stupidly over-the-top PC with flagship parts, custom water tubing, a specific color scheme, an anime figure inside it (which I've already ordered for about $300), and so on. You're also dumb, because that's a crappy analogy. If my computer was in another room, I wouldn't go out of my way to look at it either. If it was something I frequently had to move around like a power tool, I also wouldn't spend any time or energy trying to make it look nice. However, my computer is in the room that I spend the most of my time in. I want to make the room that I spend the most of my time in look nice. Couldn't get the Y70 because it was on backlog for months when I built my PC
It's a good case, the Y70 is bigger (your pc will be very heavy, keep that in mind) and solves all the small problems from the Y60
If you have the money to splurge go ahead and buy it, you won't regret it.
