I think you nailed it. Someone like Harmony Korine is intellectually counterfeit compared to an Abel Ferrara. When I watch Korine films, I know they are a prank trying to impress his ivy league buddies in the Criterion Collection. When I watch Abel Ferrara's movies, I believe that he really is the very grimy degenerate who would make this movie.

Harmony Korine is more of a documentarian at heart, from the herzogian school of filmmaking. He doesn't create, so much as point his camera at things already created like a tourist at a zoo. I don't think him and Ferrara are competing in the same genre to be compared like that

This is about the most "arthouse" film I've seen. It's about 2 hours too long and pretty much nothing happens.

Best part is when the guy's Jap wife is naked fucking a younger guy from his playwright class.

After that, she does and it's pretty much just him being a whiny pussy about it instead of going out, meeting and sleeping with other women.

>Nosferatu (2024)
>7/10
Undoubtly inferior to previous iterations of the Bram Stoker tale, Eggers' Nosferatu shows a distinct lack of direction that makes the film drag and rush in the weirdest ways possible. The acting of Nicholas Hoult and Lily-Rose Depp as Thomas and Ellen respectively can be characterized as hammy and overacted, with the modern motto of "more is always better" as the guiding principle behind the individual performances. Rose Depp's grimacing, shouting, tossing and turning can only be described as one of the best examples of 4chan's "I'm acting!" meme, with no real substance in her efforts. Hoult, in his own side, shows a similar hilarious gesture when approached by the eponymous Nosferatu, just to later on show no emotion for the remainder of the film.
In relation to Orlok's appearance, one can observe that Eggers tried to go for a more menacing, dark and strong appearance for this film, but fails to evoke the feeling of wickedness and malevolence that Dreyer's monster abundantly possessed, therefore giving the sensation, at times, that one is watched a cartoon monster instead of a real, terrifying villain, a black sorcerer, indeed. The addition of certain bits like the gypsies, the mad professor and the sacrifice of Ellen really add nothing of value to the original story, while the cutting or changing of other things present in Dreyer's original, -like the lengthy travel of Thomas and the preying of townsfolk by Orlok-, result in a film with obvious pacing issues that at times rushes and at other times drags, failing to capture the attention of the demanding viewer. Color grading is also a bad issue on this film, with many scenes just looking like very dark blue and gray, up to the point where one wonders if one can distinguish the details presented on the individual frames.
As for the positives: the film is entertaining enough as to be a good time killer, and the Hollywood formulas applied give some memorable scenes... (cont).

(cont.)... such as the necrophilic interspecial sex scene between Orlok and Ellen near the end of the film. The references to mystery school lore such as Babylon and the Beast are also interesting, and maybe even an improvement over the original's limited lore. Some stills present beautiful sceneries, though limited by the bad coloring and the videogame-esque framing. Overall, not a bad joint for the unexperienced vampyre, -but for the authentic vampyres of the world-, just a passable effort.

It's the old reactionary theme: ever since Eve listened to the serpent, she's been an idiot or a whore. The married man has a double function as redeemer. In accomplishing his conjugal duty, he transforms her into a mother. In torturing her for a good cause, he transforms her into a moral being.

why is Armond so positive lately?

>David Lynch, director of Twin Peaks, Mulholland Drive, Blue Velvet, The Elephant Man, and Eraserhead, was that rarity — a grant-funded filmmaker who was also a true artist. Staying apolitical in his work, Lynch expressed the personal idiosyncrasy that reflected his upbringing in Midwest America (born in Missoula, Mont., and of Finnish-Danish heritage) as well as his private, frightened knowledge of national terror.

>All We Imagine as Light packages third-world feminism for the dupes who purchased Michelle’s obtuse Becoming memoir.

>Conclave shades the Catholic Church while leaving room for political fellow traveler Jorge Mario Bergoglio.

>The Piano Lesson caters to Denzel’s bowdlerization of August Wilson. It’s either a desperate Democrat-socialist celebrity-endorsement deal or a last appeal to “the brothers.”

>The Promised Land is a history of Denmark’s Jutland and a conqueror’s dream that comes suspiciously close to advertising Obama’s 2020 memoir, A Promised Land.

>The Seed of the Sacred Fig sentimentalizes the feminist revolt that benefited from Obama’s 2016 airlift of a $400 million palette of cash to Iran.

>Dune: Part Two, another fantasy of third-world power struggle, is dull but dedicated to globalism.

>Anora is an open-borders sit-com, peddling immigrant decadence as a soft-core porn.

>Didi, another DIE (Diversity, Inclusion, Equity) tale, indulges DACA sentimentality.

>Sugarcane repeats Obama’s feigned concern for the plight of indigenous people that first worked magic in 2008, an America-last doc about Canada’s Sugarcane reserve.

>A Complete Unknown is Boomer nostalgia for godhead Dylan, a sure way to hold on to ’60s liberal sanctimony.

>If we buy into this list, we nearly succumb to the Obama world of snide superiority and condescension.

Your best bet is probably to search on academic databases such as JSTOR, but to enter them you need to be either an academic or an student of a university or college that is linked with them. You could also try to pirate academic articles. There are some websites where you can do just that, but I don't remember them of the top of my head.

>He never played GOAT format
My man, back in the day Chaos Sorc was one of the best cards in all of the game, remember that back then we only had Chaos Sorc and BLS - Envoy of the Beginning to play around the turbo engine, as Chaos Emperor Dragon was banned. The power levels were much lower than nowadays, synchro summoning didn't exist yet (this was up to 2007), and getting a light and dark monster in the GY was very easy via Thunder Dragon discards and searchers like Sangan or Mystic Tomato. The idea was to play draw cards like Pot of Greed and Graceful Charity to get BLS or Chaos Sorc into the field as fast as possible and beatdown your opponent with them via removal effects and the high ATK of both cards.
