on a scale of 1-10, how retarded would it be to buy this card right now? I mainly play old shit on my rx580 but I want to be able to play the new elden ring game at 1440p on linux. I personally can't believe prices in the sub-$400 market are going to get worse instead of better the longer you wait as the 9070 / XT after release in March alongside the 5070/5060 should put downward pressure on the RX 7000 series, especially if the only game you'd want the new card is months away from an actual release date.

If you don't mind used, the non-XT 6800 is available for ~$360 shipped which is 9% more expensive than the 6750XT sure but has an extra 4GB of VRAM with 17% more performance according to TPU making it a better deal:
https://www.techpowerup.com/gpu-specs/radeon-rx-6750-xt.c3879
https://www.ebay.com/itm/276809905135?_skw=6800&epid=7042953987
As far as new cards-only though for Linux, that is a good deal though.

Anyone experience this and manage to solve it? I heard I need to lower brightness (nope, just looks like dimmer orange), or that it's an unsolvable issue with sRGB and you either deal with that or you deal with DCI-P3's oversaturated trash.
No, I don't have that auto-install ICC profile from Dell, I removed it, but there are still a few more profiles that were already there (picrel)

Is your Displayport cable rated for the full bandwidth of the monitor input (DP 1.4)? Have you tried lowering the refresh rate to 100Hz with something like CRU and using the native 10-bit color of the panel instead of 8-bit @ 165Hz that the Dell defaults to? Is both your display settings in Windows and in the GPU Driver set to Full RGB (0-255) instead of Limited RGB (16-235)?

>No, I don't have that auto-install ICC profile from Dell, I removed it, but there are still a few more profiles that were already there (picrel)
Tried RTINGS's profile?
https://www.rtings.com/monitor/reviews/dell/alienware-aw3423dwf#test_1468

If those don't fix it, you may have a bad factory calibration and if you don't want to buy a colorimeter (they are like $30-40 used on Ebay) to perform a full hardware color calibration you CAN get away with eyeballing the correct white balance by adjusting the individual RGB gain values against a common sheet of white office paper as a reference with the sRGB gamut clamp disabled like so:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=avJTz1JhkR4

If you do go the hardware route you can then use a supported colorimeter from the list below:
https://displaycal.net/#requirements
in conjunction with freeware automatic calibration software DisplayCal to get real-time measurements of the RGB balance as you adjust them and generate a personal monitor color profile that can autoload on startup like so:

Haven't done that yet. You seem knowledgeable: is that worth my time setting up?
>RTING's profile?
I never knew exactly how to work with their ratings.
I would assume I should follow the post-calibration settings, but it actually has a slightly worse rating post-calibration than pre-calibration, if that makes any sense. Have to assume the fact that it got worse post-calibration is because the Creator setting can't change RGB, and the Custom Color setting can't change gamma, which is fucking retarded
And when you say "profile", do you mean just their settings (97-98-100) or BOTH their settings (97-98-100) AND their downloadable ICC profile? Because even RTINGs recommends that you shouldn't install it.

In any case, I think I will follow their post-calibration setting (with a higher brightness). Ostensibly a slightly worse result, but just the fact that the red's actually red on that mode makes me believe it's the better choice.

I upgraded my machine a few months back, now I'm wondering if I should have got the Ryzen 5 7600X instead of the 5600X. I am happy with the machine, it's still leagues ahead of my old FX-6300, but you look at that extra 20% and wonder, "hmm". Another hundered bucks though. I did other good upgrades with the leftover budget. IDK, what would you anons have done? A little more processing power, or would you use the 100 bucks to get something else for the machine?

Oh don't worry, it gets worse. I was using a 1050 Ti the whole time and the case's fans were loud. That thing was ancient, but goddamn did it run. It did a good job for a good 8 years. But eventually you get worried about parts starting to fail and you want something custom made instead of the ol prebuilt.
>what did you do with that older rig?
I hucked a laptop HDD into it and turned it into the scumputer from a few threads back. I'm thinking of using it to play around with other OS's.

Might be worth a shot and you can always reset it to the default. QD-OLEDs are native 10-bit depth panels unlike most LCDs that are native 8-bit + FRC dithering at best, so even if it doesn't fix your colors at least it can reduce banding in content and improve smooth color gradation transitions.

Is your monitor's firmware up to date (latest is M3B107 from April 2024)?
https://www.dell.com/support/product-details/en-us/product/aw3423dwf-monitor/drivers
Also did you try messing with Source Tone Map and Console Mode options, and make sure HDR is disabled in Windows?

>And when you say "profile", do you mean just their settings (97-98-100) or BOTH their settings (97-98-100) AND their downloadable ICC profile? Because even RTINGs recommends that you shouldn't install it.
If you aren't happy with your factory default Red might as well try them both and if it doesn't help just factory reset to the default settings to wipe theirs and delete the ICC profile.

>In any case, I think I will follow their post-calibration setting (with a higher brightness). Ostensibly a slightly worse result, but just the fact that the red's actually red on that mode makes me believe it's the better choice.

Most people recommend I go with a high core count CPU for video editing and streaming, because my current CPU can't keep up, but the only options are AMD's power hungry neutered CPUs and Intel's power hungry heat stroke inducing CPUs and THEN comes the choice of motherboard. All right so yesterday I was having issues with ASRock board failing to boot with G.Skill RAM and 9800x3d. Seems like this has been a common issue for others as well. I was only able to reliably pass POST with just 1 (of 2) ram stick in B2.

After updating ASRock x870 bios to 1.16 and adding the second ram stick to A2 I was able to boot and turn EXPO on, and I haven't had any further issues, so far.

I still don't have an OS installed but EXPO settings are on and I got 2 passes in memtest so far. I'll leave it running for 24hrs but it seems like the BIOS update solved the problem.

The only relevant thing I could find in the release notes were something to do with updating to AMD AGESA PI 1.2.0.2b, so I think that might have been what was missing.

>Thoughts on the 10700K in 2025 for 1440p gaming? I might be able to snag one (with mobo + ram) super cheap from a friend.
https://www.techpowerup.com/review/intel-core-i9-14900k/21.html
Will depend on what games you play (CP2077, and MMOs can be tough) and how cheap the package bundle is. Also how much you do you like your friend?
For reference the 10700K gets ~119 fps in this chart from above, and buying new the 7500F when PBO is enabled in BIOS is with 5-7% of the 7600X on the chart (so ~151-158 fps or 27-33% more performance) for $134 on Aliexpress and gives you a upgrade path to a used 7800X3D/9800X3D etc years out:
https://www.aliexpress.us/item/3256807544277684.html
Selecting a cheap compatible mobo, cooler (since the CPU is a tray unit without), and 32GB of DDR5 RAM = ~$336 for the price of entry

In other words if he's selling it to you for between $221 to 245 it's worth considering, if less than that take the friend deal, and if more that you are better off buying new.
This all assumes the friends's included RAM is 32GB, if it's a 2xGB (16GB) kit it'll need to be even cheaper to have equivalent value. Also I assume a cooler is included with the friend's deal as well.

It's for ~$175. I don't really need it but the temptation to do a mid-tower build to replace my aging short tower build is strong. Microcenter has the 7600X bundle for $299 but I really want ATX for this build and apparently there's not substitutions, so I'd have to buy a la carte which adds up to $370.

And actually now that I look at that bundle I might as well go with that, all I trade is asrock for gigabyte... This is retarded autistic fixation I do not need to spend money on this shit right now.

Otherwise I would have gotten one of those newfangled terrarium-style cases. They're too fat to fit behind my monitor or to the side of it.
I would also take a case that uses real wood furniture and goes all in on the 70's home electronic aesthetic.

Reviewers don't actually play any games, this is why benchmarks are always ran on nonsensical settings(ALL GIGA ULTRA, even when some of the settings literally do nothing except lower the fps). They don't really even benchmark either, they just press "run" on a script and the computer makes bar-graphs for them.

>super popular new multiplayer game comes out (poe2)
>no bench-marker uses it on reviews because there is no easy way to automate the benchmark

New SFF build, coming from an old Intel DDR4 build, want to play Space Marine 2 at 4k120 on my TV;

Is a 9600X paired with a 5070 sufficient? Space Marine 2 has DLSS 3 framegen, so presumably it will be able to insert fake frame to take an approx 90fps up to 120fps?

From what I can gather, the 9600X is a good SFF CPU as it runs cooler than the 7000-series. And an AM5 B850 board should provide an upgrade path to 10000 Ryzen.

I only play competitive games. Recently I tried playing Marvel rivals and my 3080ti was struggling at medium settings to hit 240 fps. Perhaps this would make sense but the graphics are NOWHERE NEAR good enough to justify that kind of demand.
My conclusion is that the company didn't even bother to optimize the game to run smoother.

I am getting really tired of greediness and laziness. Why can't people take pride in their work?

Distribution doesn't have to be tied to the model. For example, CPUs are sold as-is in the original first-party sealed boxes, but the local reseller handles distribution and whatnot.
Graphics cards are pretty much the only component I can think of where the distributors/resellers get a cut-down version of the "original" product and build up their own card around it.

This is the kind of thing that made me become disillusioned with benchmarks/reviews in general, the way benchmarks are done is divorced from reality.

Pic related is an example of ultra (top) vs high (bottom). Ignoring the fact that it's an indie game that probably isn't incredibly optimized, I couldn't tell the difference between the ultra and high besides the performance drop and increased CPU usage. If you gave this game to a hardware reviewer they'd probably go with the ultra settings. I had a 141 framerate cap on so I'm sure the framerate could have gone higher than 141 fps here.

How is this chart relevant to someone who probably doesn't have a 4090?
Are we really just assuming someone swapping to X CPU leads to exactly the same performance as measured regardless of GPU?

yes and no, if you're using an RX6600 then obviously you're going to be CPU bottlenecked using a 7800X3D at 1080p vs using something like a 4070ti or better where the GPU can and will try to keep up with the CPU in terms of FPS. But all benchmarks are a good rule of thumb to follow

My estimates (based on the few places we've got prices from), suggest that whatever your MSRP (or MSRP + Tax if it's included in the price originally) is that entry cards will be:
*0% to 15% more expensive than MSRP
*Mid level will be 10% to 20% more than msrp
* High end will be 30% to 40% more than MSRP.

>where the distributors/resellers get a cut-down version of the "original" product and build up their own card around it
They're not resellers, they're OEMs. The same model applies to sound/network/bus cards which are built by an OEM around a controller chip from another manufacturers. It also applies to mobos with soldered CPUs, which make up for a lot of computers (laptops, mini PCs, low-end pre-built desktops, etc.). Same goes for RAM sticks, SSDs and PSUs, where the finished product often isn't designed and assembled by the manufacturer of the "core" component.
Socketed CPUs are actually the exception, and even then socketed mobos are built around chipsets and sockets provided by AMD/Intel and according to their specs.

You made me think about it and realise you have a fair point.
But then why are GPUs so unique in that the actual core chip is the main thing people choose, whereas nobody cares about e.g. the exact memory chips making up a RAM stick or an SSD? Even when memory can have vastly different performance, people look at the end products and go "oh, this has a speed of X, that one has a speed of Y" instead of saying "oh, this uses this model of chips from this manufacturer, that one uses chips from that manufacturer". In fact most people probably don't even know the manufacturers.
Perhaps even more importantly, why do FE/reference cards even exist then, when they don't for almost any other product?

>>103995358
>But then why are GPUs so unique in that the actual core chip is the main thing people choose
NTA but for all the differences in GPUs the actual GPU chip is what matters.
>whereas nobody cares about e.g. the exact memory chips making up a RAM stick or an SSD? Even when memory can have vastly different performance
For SSDs and RAM some people do care about what makes it up, for DDR5 some people prefer Hynix regardless of specs if they are tweaking. But when it comes to stock performance there is a lot more variance in performance depending on what each manufacturer does with each component. It's easier for most people to just go by spec sheets and reviews.
>why do FE/reference cards even exist then, when they don't for almost any other product?
They do.
The whole cottage industry of 3rd party vendors making components for the DIY/Consumer market does not exist outside of it.
I work in a DC, our memory does not come from Gskill, Corsair, or whoever. It comes straight from SK Hynix, Samsung and Micron.
We have custom SSDs that come from Kingston but they just make them to the specs the company wants. Over time they have moved to industry standard form factors and now our SSDs come straight from Samsung, Micron, Toshiba, etc
Same with GPUs, all GPUs are Nvidia first party.
Pretty much every single name you see in the DIY space, does not exist in the massive DCs that consume most of the world's tech
