so i wanna run a 5090, sabrent rocket 5, and 990 evo on an x870e taichi. if i put both nvme drives in the first two slots (with the sabrent in the top slot obv), will i be oversaturating the pcie channels, theoretically potentially gimping all of them? or am i not understanding something correctly? if so, can i just put the 990 in the bottom slot to avoid this?

most mobos for AM5 if you put a Gen 5x4 in slot 1 (M2_1) AND a Gen 5x4/2 in M2_2 slot 2 you will be gimping your x16 PCI slot for the GPU to x8. Some boards if you put 2 gen 5s, 1 in slot 1 and another in slot 3/4 it will be fine. highly board dependent. If you run 1 gen 5 and the rest gen 4x4 you should be good tho. And of course if you just run 990 Pros and all gen 4x4 you're fine.

I'm thinking of replacing the fans on the Phantom Spirit with 2 Phanteks M25 fans for aesthetic autism. They have a louder peak but have significantly better pressure and airflow.

as shown here in the block diagram M.2_1 does not share any lanes with the top X16 pcie slot as it has a dedicated set of lanes
the M.2_2 slot below uses the onboard chipset for it's connection to the CPU which it shares with much of the IO, your setup should be fine with what you said, no gimping of pcie lanes will occur

I can't wait for intel to bury this trash rdoa. They are at least trying for real. AI based FG in BMG was mentioned before nvidia announced that they're moving away from optical flow based one to AI based. Intel is actually doing proper R&D. I hope the retarded board doesn't defund ARC tho.

That makes a kind of sense. At $599 they'll try to sell it as "you could buy the 5070, but for only $50 more you can get the next tier up in raster performance and VRAM capacity, which would normally cost $200 more, while maintaining your RT performance," in an attempt to functionally undercut Nvidia without looking like a noname off-brand.

Intel is going to continue to invest in GPU development, but it's uncertain whether that extends to gaming dGPUs in the long term.

looks like random writes, you can go on pcpartpicker and click benchmarks. Random writes is usually the benchmark you want to check, the "theoretical" sequential read speeds don't matter as much. It's random writes you want.

Read PCPartPicker's official storage benchmarking methodology.
You can buy a 2TB KC3000 with DRAM in the US for a similar price to that fucking SNEEDVO SSD.
Have fun running that SNEEDVO @ 4.0 x2 if it's not being installed on a Gen 5 slot, kek.

They need their dGPU to succeed or Intel is going to end up belly up. Which means they will keep releasing dGPUs, and gaming is an easy way to gain marketshare and some good will in the industry. They aren't Nvidia who could ignore the gaming market entirely and just as if not more successful than they are.
It'd be smart for Intel to try to get into the console space, undercutting AMD's supposed rocksolid stranglehold they have there.

Helldivers doesnt play nice with the xtx at all
You can look it up on steam forums or whatever but to get it to run you need to limit its usage to under 70-80%
Other than that the xtx can handle basic RT so you will be able to play stuff like indiana jones or the upcoming doom, just not with the effect cranked up.
1440 should allow you to get whatever frames you are after for a good while

I doubt it but I was more recommending a performance class than any specific card. To put it another way, if you just want decent frames on raster only you don't need to spend anywhere close to $1000.
That's something I don't think AMD "gets" with their price structure - undercutting by $100 is a big deal in the <$500 bracket but absolutely nothing in the $1000 bracket. Those are completely different consumers and the latter is way less price-sensitive.

The delay of the launch is due to AMD having expected higher prices for Nvidia's midrange cards. They made deals with retailers assuming consumer prices that are now considered too high to compete and these prices were made public by insiders. AMD now take their time to reevaluate and most of all find new deals/compensation with their retailers. The fact that the cards are already piling up with retailers indicates that AMD wanted to launch earlier, probably shortly after CES. They were genuinely surprised by Nvidia's pricing and even cancelled the presentation of RDNA4 at CES. This is all too comprehensible. Imagine AMD had launched with prices that are about the same or only little less than Nvidia's, who would not rather wait for the RTX then? I for one definitely. It's only in our interest that AMD lowers the prices for their 9070/XT so that they are significantly less than Nvidia's 5070/Ti. Let's just wait and be reasonable with our expectations.

I plan on buying a 5090 FE on launch in UK. Supposedly scan is selling them yet you need a link thru the Nvidia website. My question is: do I need a marketplace account for the links to show? Others are also asking online and looks like the only way to create 1 is adding a founders edition to your cart then going into checkout
The issue is all of them are sold out and by the time I create 1 when 5000 series drops every unit will be sold out. That goes back to my original question: am I fucked without a Nvidia marketplace account?

Yes a design flaw, or several, in the connector could cause it to melt. Mostly a problem on the 4090 with its much higher power limit.
There's a new connector out now, called 12V2x6, that (mostly) fixes the issue. It'll be included with all ATX 3.1 certified PSUs or you can order one if reusing an existing unit.
Just to reiterate, if you don't want RT you shouldn't be looking at this class of card in the first place.

Watch AMD Radeon show off a prototype of their multi-frame generation tech.
If Lossless Scaling can shill some bandaid crap, so can Radeon (not saying it will be good).

They were gonna be $100 above GeForce or something, now they're gonna be $50 under. If retailers were to sell their current stock at that price it would be at a loss, margins aren't that big. AMD needs to issue rebates to make up for the last minute price drop so retailers can profit, changing the price tag isn't an instant process.

Yeah, no, not going to work. FG is the harbinger of death for gaming as a whole and anyone with a braincell can see it. DLSS truly was a slippery slope after all, first it was upscaling your game(fake res), now it's FG(fake frames) and Neural Textures(fake textures), soon entire games are just going to be generated on on your GPU and the game your playing will only have to be natively rendered once.
And if you think this is a good thing, you're brown.

If you're worried about the thermal paste being fused to your CPU cooler, run Cinebench or some CPU stress test for about 5~10 minutes to warm the paste & the cooler.
When you try to remove the CPU cooler from the processor, gently twist the cooler heatsink before you try to pull it out from the mounting brackets.

There is no market for Kingpin. Galax, Colorful, and ASUS have no trouble selling their GeForce XOC variants.
I don't think anyone else bothers to make an XOC video card because it's a niche segment and they don't want to take the risk of having unsold inventory of these costly cards.
XOC video card segment is highly profitable, but there's a very limited number of interested buyers.

I added Colorful because they took on some of EVGA's video card engineers and they are sponsoring CENS to OC their best cards.

Just want 1440p at decent fps, dont even need ultra settings. I just copied the pc part picker list and upgraded the ram to 32 since it was only 20 dollars extra. I picked a random other case since I want to get everything at 1 store, so I am not sure if there are better ones at the price (pref no rgb meme lights and also with some fans). DDR3200 should be fine right? Also, I can get the XFX GPU for 10 bucks more or the ASUS one for 20 but I have no idea if it makes any diference. Is this going to be loud when gaming since I really hate loud fan noise, used to drive me insane on my laptops.
Is there anything I am missing or should this ne fine?

Memory is fine.
Gigabyte Gaming OC is a fine model, it's Gigabyte's mid-tier brand with decent cooling and operating noise.

What are gen5 ssds useful for, anyway? I'm thinking of potentially building a system with two of them in raid0 as backing storage for code compiling, for a mainly rust-focused dev box (yes yes >rust I know). But compiling requires a lot of random accesses, and do fast SSDs even improve on that significantly or is it all about sequential speeds?

Choosing between
1) 9800x3d w/ 5070ti
2) 9700x w/ 5070
Can frame generation get me 4k120 in Space Marine 2 on a 9700x? I know that in benchmarks the 9700x falls short of 120 fps. I just want a smooth experience I don't care about "fake frames" in a single player game if the generated frames take the game from 90 to 120 for example.

https://www.tomshardware.com/pc-components/cpus/intel-ships-nova-lake-cpus-to-partners-for-testing-samples-intended-for-validation-and-research
>Going by whispers in the wind, Nova Lake is rumored to employ Coyote Cove P-cores (renamed from Panther Cove) alongside Arctic Wolf E-cores. Arrow Lake suffers from poor L3 access latency due to an off-die memory controller and a slow ring bus which cripples performance in memory-sensitive applications. A leak alleges that Panther Lake will reintegrate the IMC (Integrated Memory Controller) back into the CPU Tile, similar to Lunar Lake. Likewise, Nova Lake is said to separate the two once again but with added optimizations.
It's encouraging that Nova Lake is progressing well, but why in the hell would Intel see what a disaster off-die IMCs have been for latency in ARL-S and fixing it with Lunar Lake resplit them again in Nova Lake. Does Intel want their desktop business not just with DIY but SI/OEMs to die also? Because that's a good way to do it. Jesus fuck they should just die shrink Raptor Lake, add a bunch more P/E cores, boost the clocks a good 500 Mhz or so and be done with it if this is how their plan to deal with their architecture dead-ends like it's their Bulldozer.

it's working like a dream. Programming, docker, everything is going fine. I havent had a single hangup yet, except with getting rid of all of the Windows 10 stupid safety feature. Everything else, it's doing fine. I had one odd thing where I left it running and went to the store. When I came back, the explorer crashed for some reason so I had to restart (cltr alt del worked fine). Likely another W10 issue that came up but havent seen it since.

9700X is a complete meme for gaming, search the benchmarks.
It’s either the 7600X or the 9800X3D, the 7800X3D will slot in between if its price ever returns near $350.
You buy other CPUs for gaming if they’re significantly discounted.

As an OLED booster I am very disappointing. Why the hell can't MSI, ASUS, et al. tell LG/Samsung to eat shit with their stock panel limits and just make their monitors stay @ 1000 nits without falling off a cliff in any sort of realistic moderate/high APL image? If it's a matter of power requirements and heat dissipation they already have no problem slapping overkill VRMs & cooling solutions on their motherboards and GPUs so just make the panel 8" deep I don't care. These are premium flagship monitors and it's far past time for them to start acting like it.

>Why the hell can't MSI, ASUS, et al. tell LG/Samsung to eat shit with their stock panel limits and just make their monitors stay @ 1000 nits without falling off a cliff in any sort of realistic moderate/high APL image?
Maybe because you are putting exceeding too much stock into what these companies can or is willing to actually do with the tech that LG and Samsung provides them?
Get real for a second, they are only making monitors to try to make money. You can only put some much effort into something before you are uncompetitive. Especially when the panel vendors themselves sell the same panel.

I should not have to compromise in pixel density sharpness OR brightness. They are literally the same panels cut from the same motherglass at the same several factories. There's no reason if they can do high brightness some of the time they can't do it all the time.
>>103987381
All of the monitor OEMs are a bunch of cowards. Samsung Display that actually makes the panels has no problem showing off 4000 nits at this year's CES on their new panels:
https://www.flatpanelshd.com/news.php?subaction=showfull&id=1736034658
But Samsung Electronics that sells the panels on the TV side will artificially limit the brightness to 2000 nits @ D65 Whitepoint guaranteed unless you go into the service menu and adjust the settings yourself just like in every flagship model they've put out through the S95D last year. As bad as that is, at least it's defeatable but monitor makers are even worse gimping the brightness far more from what they're truly capable of with little workarounds to bring out the panels' ultimate potential and despite having far more leeway in designing the product's driving electronics to do so. Tim mentioned even the new 27" 4K OLEDs suffer the same issue. This sandbagging is getting tiresome.

I have an Asus PG32UDCP
It was the same price as the LG branded one at black friday, anyone but the most brainless of normies knows LG makes those panels and the LG is 99% the same, The brainless otherwise don't put stock the Asus' name. Asus has to price correctly.
>rog astral
You are assuming people are buying these because of merit. 99% of people are just going to buy the closest to MSRP cards they can. Astral buyers are going to be unironic Asus fanbois, retards looking for an excuse to spend even more money on an already expensive card, or some other combination of stupidly shallow reasons. Reasonable people would know what's being offered isn't worth literally hundreds of extra dollars.

It's just very disappointing to see both some power users chase ethereal gains in RAM OC'ing that barely moves the needle in synthetic benchmarks while raw monitor performance is a more immediately apparent benefit worth pushing the envelope for, and relatedly catering to said enthusiasts with certain halo products like that Astral GPU or this mobo, even if they are low-volume, that do at least interesting things in their tech design:
https://rog.asus.com/motherboards/rog-strix/rog-strix-x870e-e-gaming-wifi/
And then at the other end to have monitors not take any advantage of the headroom that is clearly available to them. Might as well just sell me the base panel without a stand for an extra $100-150 off and I'll provide my own monitor arm for $30 or put it onto of a stack of books. There are genuinely some neat things OEMs could do to make monitors much better like including an integrated colorimeter into the display to automatically validate and calibrate the panel to user-configurable targets at regular intervals to prevent picture drift, include a monitor arm by default, etc.

Literally 95% of AM5 boards will work just fine. OEMs learned their lesson in skimping on the VRMs with AM4 and thr 7800X3D doesn't require such beefy power delivery to begin with unlike the 12-16 core SKUs. The main differentiation between boards now is mostly how many NVME slots you want, how many fast USB ports you want on the back I/O, etc. as well as quality of life features like a POST Code Debug LED.

>that do at least interesting things in their tech design
Asus adding more phases and a bigger heatsink isn't interesting IMO. Nvidia showing off their FE was infinity more interesting than anything an AIB is putting out. Maybe if Asus had someone who was willing to talk about things and the effort they supposedly go through maybe I would be more understanding, but I also have a feeling they would be telling on themselves.
Even on motherboards where they have more control over the product. Most of the secret sauce is in firmware when talking about non XOC boards which is what the Strix is. The actual interesting hardware is going to be the Apex but from the looks of things it seems the only real difference is 2 DIMM slots. VRM is the same. Maybe there is some underlying differences aside from that is not something they are going to talk about.
>There are genuinely some neat things OEMs could do to make monitors much better
Asus used to, back when LCD monitors was stuck in a rut. Asus could contract with various Taiwan panel makers to bring things only Asus could. With OLEDs Asus seems to have their hands tied for whatever reason. Maybe it's because of contracts with Samsung/LG, maybe the panel vendors don't want to do anything special for Asus or it really is just money they are after.
