Does it still hold true?

This but add a warning: New Generation is coming out, avoid buying until then, along with the time it will take until the new products will be on the market and the performance gains compared to old products i.e not worth buying now unless it's at a very low price.

For those people, it's either
>5090 is the best so even if it's double the price of 5080 for 35% more performance, whatever it's still the best
and
>5070 Ti is better value than a 5080 (if upgrading just the GPU of an existing system)
Whereas if you're like me doing a full system build with a 9800X3D, a 5080 is likely better value for the extra $250 over the 5070 Ti.
Also I just want that extra bit of performance and diminishing returns on value are a given

No one has any idea how RDNA4 performs because AMD hasn't provided a single comparison except for that "branding" presentation slide where the 9070 XT was aligned with 4070 Ti
No one can even say if that was supposed to be a comparison of performance or just naming scheme
At least with the RTX 50 series, Nvidia provided relative performance charts that people can extrapolate performance from using Far Cry 6 and Plague Tale Requiem

It's funny that nshartia shills say that nvidia has better legacy support, but you can play supreme commander: forged alliance right now, self-destruct your ACU, and observe the horrifically mauled nuke effect caused by a decade-old bug in nshartia's DX9 driver. It looks fine using dxvk or AMD's native dx9 driver.

I've only ever had it happen with some programs like Adobe PDF reader in a maximized window and only very rarely. Like twice a year rarely.
Always gets fixed if I hit the Windows key on my keyboard though.
I've use auto-hide taskbar for over a decade and a half now.

Afaik Nvidia always skirts the DX spec to squeeze out performance at the cost of bugs and downgraded visuals
Amd and intel are much better at implementing to spec.
Jensen was even bragging in an interview that their first GPU, the riva only had 8 out of 28 directx effects working properly and had to lobby Microsoft to downplay/hold back the broken ones so that their chips would work properly
Tldr you get a fast but buggy chip by going nvidia

I live in Russia. The rest of hardware is on pair with Europe, but OLED monitors seems not affordable at all. They also not accessable, especially in regions. Those Alienware monitors you posted as 1000$ options were like 2500+ here with only few pieces in Moscow.

Alright, bet. For what you’re describing, you don’t need a beast of a machine—just something mid-tier and efficient. Here’s the vibe:
### CPU:
- **AMD Ryzen 5 5600G** or **Intel Core i3-12100**: Both are budget-friendly, super power-efficient, and have solid integrated graphics if you wanna save on a GPU. Plus, they run cool.
### GPU (if you need one):
- **GTX 1650/1660 Super** or **RX 6600**: Perfect for light gaming and emulation without cooking your room.
### RAM:
- 16GB DDR4 (3200MHz or higher): Dual-channel is the move for smoother performance in emulation.
### Storage:
- 500GB–1TB SSD: Get an NVMe if you want snappy load times, but a SATA SSD works fine for the budget-conscious.
### Motherboard:
- Something basic, like a **B550 (AMD)** or **B660 (Intel)**. Pick one with decent VRM cooling if you care about temps.
### Power Supply:
- 450W–550W 80+ Bronze or better. Stay efficient, no need for overkill.
### Case:
- Go small and airflow-friendly, like an ITX or mATX case with mesh panels. Keeps it quiet and chill.
### Notes:
- If you’re just emulating up to PS2/Switch and aren’t messing with crazy resolutions, even a good APU like the **Ryzen 7 5700G** could carry you without needing a dedicated GPU.
- For software, ensure you’re running **RetroArch, Dolphin, Yuzu**, etc., optimized with Vulkan settings for performance.
- Linux could be a vibe too (low overhead and power-efficient), but only if you're comfortable with tweaking stuff.
Basically, build a compact, power-sipping rig that doesn’t scream “gamer cave.”

Depends on the model. Some use small, yet standard, 4-pin headers while some are soldered directly to the board. Either way it's not a massive issue but obviously you need a soldering station in the latter case. I will say that RDNA1 had notable hardware/driver issues so caveat emptor - there's a reason they're cheap.

I have an old pre-built with a shitty OEM motherboard, a 10th gen i7, and 32GB of mystery DDR4 RAM. It does have a 3080, a 1000W (Dell) OEM PSU, and a 2tb nvme in it. I plan on reusing these for a new build for 1440p gaming as I have been, but the limitations of my current hardware have started to show rapidly. I'm aiming to keep it under $800 for the components. This allows me to see immediate improvements and leave me positioned for a GPU upgrade once this coming gen's cards are out and the dust has cleared on what is actually worth getting. My main question is what processor and cooling options are going to be smart to target? I am currently eying a Ryzen 7 7700X + peerless assassin in a corsair 4000D case as a good balance between price, availability, and performance. Am I retarded picking this? I'm sure any modern CPU will feel incredible coming from my current chip but I've been so checked out because things just werked for so long that I have no idea what's worth getting in terms of CPU and cooling since the AIO in the pre-built was also surprisingly good.

My budget is around 600 dollars and im looking for a 1440p display with a 240hz or higher refresh rate. What can i buy that has the least chance of making a buzzing noise
Or am i not being realistic in expecting quality control and should just stay on 1080p forever

It's mainly about regaining modularity in my system and part of that is moving to a system that supports modern CPU sockets and a case that actually has room to work in. I get the impression 3000 series cards cards are about to drop off a cliff in terms of 1440p performance with the over reliance on DLSS and it's increasing hardware gated iterations and the 10gb of VRAM is starting to look slim. But on that front I can wait and see what the 5000/9000 cards are performing at in the real world to make a decision. As for CPU bottleneck, it's not much of an issue at the moment but unfortunately MH Wilds looks like it's about to take a steamy shit all over my i7 so I figure it's time to get back to an actual PC instead of an Alienware shit box where I'm trapped with the cheapest mobo Dell could source and 10th gen Intel processors. You know, this model doesn't even get to benefit from the upgrade to an i9 because of the motherboard? Complete joke. At least there's lots of parts that can be repurposed.

Plug them all in. Those high-end AIBs always come with the highest factory overclocks so they might need the 3rd connector to handle transient spikes even if you don't do any manual OC. You don't need to use three individual cables, using a pigtail or Y cable for the third connector is fine.

Going by the demo, MH:W seems to need an X3D to get over 60FPS so that's where I'd look. Though it goes without saying that you should wait for release version benchmarks.
$800 is almost enough to get a 9800X3D rig together. For example https://pcpartpicker.com/list/Qs8LyW is $840 before tax and it should be possible to go a bit lower if you're savvy with deals/timing.

Pretty much yeah. They're cheaper to make and normies like them. Gamers are one of the few demos willing to pay real money for a board so that's who get's catered to. Though there are still plenty of premium "typist" boards out there. This post being written on a Unicomp, for example.
If you really want a backlight you'll probably have to get a "gamer" type board but these days a lot of vendors offer your choice of switches - just pick something tactile/clicky instead of the default linears.

I tried darktide, it was running fine on Medium with high on textures. I just own an RX 6600.
Gta5, Mahvel Rivals, Silent Hill 2 (maybe). I don't do a lot of AAA.
Oh yeah, DCS, Assetto Corsa and IL Sturnovik are probably the most demanding games I wanna play.

>QDOLED is an IPS if you have lights on
>WOLED is black always but has a slopper W subpixel and washes out colors
>OLED monitors have wonky firmwares and if you pay 1.5k euro for a monitor you have to accept bunch of downfalls
>1440p180hz IPS 27" is the max bandwidth you can run almost before passing into the realm of the DSC jew and 5-15 second blackouts from alt tabs
>if not running DSC you need a 1m ultrashort 4k240 QDOLED monitor at 27"
>running DSC you cant use super resolution and have to have a monitor switch for disabling it and halving your refresh rate
>if you run a OLED TV you have to deal with hdmi2.1 possible dropouts and 144hz mode not working properly or shady, or having to settle for 120 or a bunch of other weird issues
>if you run an OLED TV they can downpatch your firmware and gimp you
>If you run an oled tv you have to go into service menu to make it bearable and lower ABL flactuations
>if you run an oled tv you might have to disable non native 4k resolutons that exist in the display info to be able to run dsc and non stretched native 4k
I'm tired bros

well they're generally fine at defaults, and theres the 1 click ram oc that you did already
you can test games and if your pc does too much noise when stressed that cpu fan can be tuned in the bios so its lower rpm at max speed.
or if gpu is annoying then you can download msi afterburner and adjust the volts/fan speed with it
another tuning you can do is if case fans vibrate the case and thats annoying that you buy rubber mounts for them which potentially reduces case noise

Playing on a 27" 4k 240hz QD-OLED with no lights behind me (my room is already set up that way) seems like the ultimate no-compromises approach for PC gaming. The issue is that my 27" 1440p 165hz IPS monitor still works perfectly fine and I see no need to replace it, especially when the aforementioned QD-OLEDs cost $1100 (aside from the pathetically shitty one with only DP 1.4).

Nope - the drama around those 4k 240hz monitors not having DP 2.1 was because a huge number of nvidia cards were black screening when alt tabbing due to DSC. The more monitors you have the worse it gets.

I have a Corsair 400r and the maximum GPU length is about 318mm. The thing restricting this is a hard drive cage which seems to be "non-removable"
Hypothetically. Would it be a bad idea to either cut up or remove a hard drive cage? I could just dremel a slot in around the GPU area, but would it weaken my case enough for it to fold like a house of cards?

a service menu modded S90C/D 77" or S95F without matte slop coating 4000 nits peak 3% window or 440 Nits full screen would be better for single player and an uh 480-500hz qdoled better for eSports
as far as monitors, my only gripe is their wonky firmware and non user friendly pixel refreshing thingy which might annoy you at times or having to deal with it and manually run it is just another layer of annoyance
I don't see many problems other than that but yeah
I mean no point in replacing perfectly good monitors no if you have something that works
all my old monitors were ancient and did not even have dp or modern hdmi or 120hz+

Please recommend a monitor
30" or smaller, preferably 27"
4K120
at least 2 displayport inputs
built-in kvm or picture by picture support (must maintain connection on all inputs for instant switching)
No panel type, response timing or contrast requirements.
