Looks like ARC gpus has better image quality maybe built in dither (much less bandind than nvidia gtx card).
In days before when i switched from ATI to nvidia i noticed barery visible banding, now with ARC its gone again.
But i miss GPU sheduling on ARC. And in latest driver anisotropic filtering not avialable? ARC users?

IIRC this was because the AMD drivers already came with some tuned up color settings whereas with Nvidia you had to go calibrate it yourself.

I hate this so much
I was actually so ready to invest and get a 5090
But I don't believe the 5090 will be as popular as the 4090 is atm when it comes to reselling value.

AMD and Nvidia GPUs do dithering too, you have to enable it.
Don't need it though with HDR games and RTX HDR.

I have a Corsair 400r and the maximum GPU length is about 318mm. The restricting feature is a hard drive cage which seems to be "non-removable"
Hypothetically, would it be a bad idea to either cut up or remove a hard drive cage? I could just dremel a slot in around the GPU area, but would removing part of all weaken my case enough for it to fold like a house of cards?

X3D cpus allow you to set your GPUs pre-render limit to 1 without issue.
Other CPUs have issues and need to set it to 2 or 3 and that introduces input lag.
It's a well known thing with COD and why AMD is king there.

I still don't understand better cpu=more fps
Like if you got a high end cpu from the future.
could a the 4090 produce 1000 fps because of the cpu? Is there a fps limit to the gpu besides cpu?
also could you combine a 9800x3d with a 1070 to get even more fps?

>nvidia putting unreasonably amount of focus on rnding software
I don't think it's an unreasonable amount of focus. Nvidia is quite literally the only company pushing graphics and gaming tech forward (AMD sure as hell isn't, Microsoft isn't, Sony isn't, as conslows have been trash tier tech for a long time). Without Nvidia we probably wouldn't even have VRR to say nothing about new core types in consumer GPUs. Devs these can't use hardware for themselves, so they need Nvidia to hand them software like denoisers. Additionally, ML requires a massive compute for training, so a lot of these techniques would only be available to the biggest studios, engines, or publishers anyway
Max Blender performance wouldn't be as nearly good as pic related without AMD shuffling its feet behind Nvidia. Nvidia has been taking the lead (quite literally) by shouldering the burden of technologies like RT, which would require both hardware and software even if devs weren't completely retarded
>>103892301
Could be decent. Possibly nearly 7900 XTX in rasterization and 25% better in RT. FSR4 is also currently exclusive to RX 9000, which in and of itself (if FSR4 is even DLSS2 tier), could make the 9070 XT massively better than the 7900 XTX for gaming.

Yes but there is limits.
If you play a game and the cpu reaches ~100% usage, your cpu is the bottleneck.
If you play a game and the gpu reaches ~100% then the gpu is the bottleneck.
At low resolutions, your gpu is used less taxing your cpu more.
At very high resolutions, your gpu is used more probably being the limiting factor on the fps.
Its a weird balance.

I am building a PC after some 6-7 years, and did most of my research. The parts I went with are listed in the part picker build below (all are already bought):
https://pcpartpicker.com/list/gRcW9C
I'm just a bit confused when it comes to cooling and a PC case. I see a lot of mixed recommends based on water cooling vs regular air cooling. My concerns with air cooling are, even if I prefer it that basically the 1300 grams would sag the cpu/motherboard over time, so I believe that it's safer to go with water cooling. Please correct me if I am wrong, as I don't have much experience with this. Additionally, no clue which case has best airflow. Is H5/H7 NZXT any good? I got this recommended from a friend, but again I have no clue what is good or not, so figured I'd ask people that enjoy doing this.
Thanks in advance and the help is more than appreciated!

CPU can be a proper bottleneck at low resolution (because the GPU can theoretically reach meme frame rates the CPU can't keep up with) but more importantly uneven CPU utilisation can cause dropped frames if doesn't have the headroom to handle demand spikes, which translates into microstutter and is somewhat measured with the 1% low fps metric.

>also could you combine a 9800x3d with a 1070 to get even more fps?
Not usually because much slower CPUs can already push a 1070 to its limit except in special cases. There are certainly games where a even a 9800X3D is the limit (i.e., developers are retarded and have extremely inefficient NPC code), like Stalker 2. High end graphics cards can easily outstrip the best CPUs in that game
Sometimes you have added problems where the game's code interferes with the driver, and/or there's some problem with the driver, like Radeon's DX11 driver, which is singlethreaded and therefore cripples Radeon in a lot of games.

Oh, I am not buying it. I'll probably get some LTSC unlocked thing. Probably should remove that, my bad.
Nah, from what I looked at graphs, no significant gain really. I love gaming, but honestly more than 60fps/60hz, my eyes start getting dry and there's this stinging pain in the sides... so I just got that monitor. Would be using that PC for a mix of work and gaming.
As for the SSDs/NVMEs, aside from the 2TB NVME, the others are from my old PC. I need big data for video editing projects and other stuff, as well. I had 2 HDD die on me within a year and a half, so I stopped using them. Realistically, if I didn't need it for work, I probably wouldn't upgrade, lol. My current build is like DDR4 64GB RAM, i5-10600k, GTX 1660 Super and I'm happy with it for personal use.

Futureproof, pricing, availability and you still get the benefit of the faster controller, even with PCIe 3.
When you eventually do upgrade, you can reuse the SSDs.

Will SSDs ever achieve parity in $/TB with HDDs in our lifetime? 1TB SATA SSD's like the MX500 still go for $70, 4TB SSD's regardless if SATA/NVME go for $250ish. Meanwhile you can get HDD's with 4x that capacity for around the same price.

Mate I bought this case literally 10 years ago and nothing has 5.25" drives anymore.
Plus it isn't even a small case. It's just a fixed HDD cage in the way. The 500r has a removable cage and can fit 452mm GPUs which is bigger than anything I'd reasonably get.

Otherwise wait for better offers, LG will bring out a RGB OLED panel this year, at least it's in their roadmap. But C4 exists now and is cheap.

Yes. But almost all modern NVMe drives without onboard DRAM use HBM, stealing a bit of your system RAM.
The memory isn't there for storage cache, it's to load a map of the data in the NAND for the controller, people seem to confuse that.

AMD explained it takes them about 4 MONTHS to create new batches of 9800X3Ds and they were also undersupplied because they didn't know they'd sell so many because they didn't know Intel would be so trash.
The prices are gonna stay high for months.

Dumb question. But is lower the cas latency on memory the better?
From what I heard, the 9800x3d likes 30 latency. I just want to make sure when looking at memory if going above or below will cause less performance.

there's a balance between cas latency and megatransfers
the "30 it likes" is talking about the general price to performance sweet spot with am5 chips being 6000cl30 ram
if you got 6400cl32 it would be the same overall latency but may not actually run the expo timings listed on the box on your specific cpu

Fed up with my 6900XT due to some issues, want to go Nvidia again for CUDA and gaming. Happy with my 5950X but when I'm at it, I'm gonna upgrade the whole thing.
Workload is gonna be some video stuff on Davinci Resolve, some programming and a lot of gaming.
Wait for 9950X3D with potential latency issues? Go for 9800X3D for some gaymen gainz and basically not a big productivity upgrade? Go for 9950X now?
Also, as for motherboard, I'm aware that most B650 are fine with current 7000 series, but shouldn't I rather head towards a X670E/X870E for having PCIe5 support and generally being newer and thus better suited for the higher end of the 9000 series?

this was me with ultrawide. i always thought people who kept pushing for it were being pretentious. then my dad got a cheap one for office use and it instantly made me want one myself only with higher brightness and refresh rate. it makes games so much more immersive. the impact on regular desktop use is whatever, and it does take getting used to. the nice thing about it is that 1440p ultrawide only uses about 30% more pixels, so it's not that much more demanding than going 4K which is more than double the pixels.

On a budget of around 600cad, I'm trying to upgrade an old system I have (i5 7500, rx 580) considering that I'm not gonna need to change RAM or PSU. I'm debating an r5 5500, a cheap motherboard for around 250~ and then grabbing like a RX 6600 or something. I don't do much beyond game and watch anime, no editing or real intensive work. Seems like its a common budget option online so I may spring for it. I could get a r5 5600 instead if worth it, but it's a sizeable gap on Amazon (120 for the 5500 to 180 for the 5600)

Pic related, a used 2060 Super will do you better than an RX 6600, and the Super will be cheaper as well. Low end Radeon cards like the RX 6600 have an x8 lane PCIe connection, which makes them shit tier on a PCIe 3.0 like with the RX 5500 (although I would say R5 5600 at a minimum, or i3 12100 if you can't get the R5 for some reason)

We are only 2 years away from the 6090 and Nvidia needs to make it a real monster so that anybody at all gets tempted to pay the $3000 MSRP for it. I expect 40GB VRAM and 60% more raster perf than 4090 or else I will skip gen for yet another 2 years. I will certainly not buy the same VRAM package of the 5090 with just more fake frames for whatever sum.

PC is still fast enough, games run good. Just my 16gb ram disappears fast as fuck but I always have like 100tabs open. Boot time is trash tho, compared to what it used to be.

Who in their right mind does not separate game logic and rendering with different threads? Multi-Threading is nothing new nowadays. I can't believe there are devs this retarded. I wouldn't even call this approach "optimizing", it's rather standard. Real optimizing aims for preventing overdraw by thorough occlusion culling, making loops small enough so they fit in the CPU cache, making algorithms more efficient and memory usage smarter.

I also kind of assume that if you're using an enclosure it's a drive that could potentially end up in a machine so you want something decent
otherwise you can just get something like a crucial x9 for cheap and it's functionally the same
