Yeah, Lenovo went back to socketed ram in the newest AMD T series ThinkPad and it has worse battery life and worse iGPU performance than the previous gen.
Just fucking lol.

I've been using a Macbook Air for over a decade and am looking for something new with a similar build quality that doesn't cost $1000. I would also like it to last another decade if possible. All I do is browse the internet, download porn, and edit photos.

I need a decent low power gaming laptop. My uses need something between a good igpu and a proper mobile dgpu, so I’m looking at rtx 4050 laptops mostly.
14” preferred but I’m not against any particular size. Uses will be mostly office work and then light gaming as a secondary machine.
Any recommendations? Budget isn’t a major concern if there’s justifiable reasons for more expensive rtx 4050 laptops

I've been happy with mine, it literally 'just werks'. I still don't see the point in the Pro models since the Air models seem just as capable, so if I were buying a new Macook, an Air with 24GB RAM and a 512 SSD would be more than enough for everything.

I blind bought it for the better display, and my M2 Air was working fine for my uses (mostly web dev (react, etc)/contracts with rust for solana)

The display definitely is better. Nothing massive. I'm a little more surprised at how much smoother it feels (not just the refresh rate) with small things where I wouldn't expect a difference, like closing/opening tabs, etc. I notice it's using a lot more RAM at idle (i had the 16/512 variant of the air), which makes me wonder if that's the difference. macOS with apple silicon does seem to be pretty incredible at managing RAM, but perhaps just having more does still make a difference in my case. There's also more memory bandwidth and all that, and the CPU is just faster single-core too, but it doesn't seem like it should make little things like that snappier.

The keyboard feels different, but maybe it's just because the chassis is bigger.

all-in-all I'm glad I got it, but it's definitely not necessary and my M2 Air probably would have been fine for work for years. It definitely feels like a chonky boi next to the air

Hmm, makes it hard to pick. I'm really after more RAM, so I've been trying to decide between another Air or a Pro, with the Air being more appealing simply because I can get the same RAM and SSD size for a lot less than on the Pro. I also like the 13" size since it's very lightweight and I can take it virtually anywhere.

ah. yeah I had the 15" Air, and this is a 16" pro, so an extra inch was actually one of the things that attracted me to it.
I use mine on the go a lot, but I don't really mind the big size. I do find it a lot harder to work on a small screen tho

i think you'd just have to try it to see if you'd benefit from the performance. Probably wouldn't be hard to get one that you can return for free. Don't get too used to the refresh rate tho
Anonymous 01/22/25(Wed)03:29:50 No.103990879
>>103990874
I wasn't aware of the refresh rate, so that's kind of cool, but probably not something that would fully sway me. If just one single core is the difference, I'll probably go with an Air again but with a lot more RAM.

I had a dell latitude with a touchscreen, I never used it. To me, a touchscreen doesn't really make sense with a conventional laptop design, it either makes the screen wobble or tilt further back depending on how much pressure you apply, not very pleasant. On tablet PCs and convertibles with a kickstand, it's better as the screen stays in place.
Hardware design is one thing, software is another major factor. Windows' tablet mode isn't especially ergonomic, the on-screen keyboard really sucks. The best touchscreen experience I had was on Linux with the GNOME desktop environment, their apps do a really good job adapting to desktop and touchscreen devices.

the issue with them is if you get a desktop tower pc because then you get rid of desktop's advantage to swap out parts because hp eventually stops making parts for it and you can't use other manufacturers parts.
getting an hp laptop shouldn't matter that much.

Make sure your CPU and your GPU each have the legendary Honeywell PTM7950 so that the temperatures will stay low for many years and it'll be immune to the pump-out effect!

If you buy a Lenovo Legion gaming laptop that has an RTX 5090, it'll already come with the legendary Honeywell PTM7950!

Make sure that your new gaming laptop has a Ryzen CPU. The Intel's CPUs are objectively shitty!

Make sure that your gaming laptop has 2 fans and 4 exhausts and you're good to go! If it has more 2 fans and more than 4 exhausts, then the more the merrier!
