A Windows laptop more specifically. The Vivobook and Aspire 3 both fit the bill for the other specs I was looking for with 8gb ram and a Core or Ryzen series processor (not that N1000 intel atom thing). But for both of these I can't seem to find definitive answers online whether either of them have backlighting on the keyboard. The other option I saw is the Ideapad which does appear to have backlighting. Any other suggestions? Thanks.

Left out the first part of my question: Looking for a laptop for grandparents. What's a sub $350USD 15" laptop that has a backlit keyboard?

what's a good laptop for fusion/cad in general.
my current win10 is an amd ryzen 5 w/ 32gb ddr4 and some kind of radeon video card. it's a touchscreen and all that crap. while it works pretty alright for what i need it for, my workplace is about to start booting windows 10 off their network. plus it gets pretty slow when working with complex assemblies.
i can always keep it and use it for 3d printing and my plasma table and all that, but i need something with win11 and that can run at least fusion360 with ease.

anyone know of an incredibly thin/lightweight x86 windows laptop
it'll be a second laptop in my bag so a small 13" or a tablet/snap keyboard would work too
doesnt need much for power but just super light if anyone knows of something

gaming laptops are loud when you play video games.
but how silent are they when you do everyday stuff.
i mean since they have better cooling due to the need for the discrete GPU wouldn't that make them super silent for everything else?

The boss is getting me a laptop with a budget of $700 + tax
Whats the best I can get for that price?
It'll be for office work and I already have a gaming computer so I want something with the best general specs possible since he said I will be able to keep it.
Portability isn't an issue because its just going to be used at work and only at work.
I might be willing to put in an extra hundred myself if there is something out of budget that is worth it.
Thank you all anons for the help

FYI to anyone lurking if you're looking at the AMD Asus Vivobook S14 it has pretty bad linux support.
Hardware acceleration for video is almost impossible to get working in anything besides mpv/ffmpeg, screen freezes every 1-2 hours which is only fixed with a full reboot, cpu can't run at the lowest power setting so battery life is around 7 hours, and wifi is slower than it should be.
It also runs hot but at least it's quiet.
>t. disappointed owner

Currently own an old T430 that I got used many years ago, but the performance doesn't cut it anymore. I need better speakers, good cpu and gpu performance for video editing, occasional gaming, multitasking, etc. And I was looking at this Ideapad slim 5 13", it's a new model and I haven't found many reviews for it. It has 512gb of storage, 16gb of RAM, a 16:10 100% srgb 400 nits screen, ryzen 7735HS. It is on a pretty steep sale at a local retailer, for roughly 450 EUR / $460, which is a nice price compared to what the market has to offer in that area. I've heard many bad things about ideapads, such as hinges breaking, thermal issues, power buttons crapping out, etc. It's also a polar blue stupid color but for the price it doesn't bother me that much. Should I buy it though? ty
