I'll probably ditch the galaxy option and stick to oneplus (got their buds 3 pro and tablet as a birthday gift )

since last thread was dead, ill repeat myquestion
does anyone actually have op nord 4? any problems with it like overheating, bad camera, washed out display etc?
i was thinking of upgrading from samsung s9 plus to exynos version of s24 plus in couple of weeks (hopefully on discount since s25 line is coming out), but after reading the thread, the oneplus nord 4 which is currently almost 50% less does seem tempting

my biggest concerns about oneplus are display quality, camera quality and software. even though im not a heavy user, i've only ever used flagships because i use phone a lot and for a long time so my thinking in the past was might as well go with the best. im wondering if midrangers of today (like nord4), while obviously better than 6 year old flagship, have enough power to last me for 5-6 years without noticeable drop in performance, especially considering that the nord4 doesnt have the top of the line cpu

For the past 5+ years I have listened to people praising chink phones as the ultimate value for money. Are they not cool anymore? I have had an S20+ ever since it came out but nowadays everything Samsung offers that I might consider buying seems overpriced to say the least. Like for example, does the 256GB version of the A55 make sense at 360 euro?

Anyway, I will probably get the Moto G85 for the stock Android, whatever that means. I have read complaints about the Motorola build quality though so if anyone here has it, do let me know how it handles

Samsung is basically chinkshit to me (I know, they're gooks), you make a good point that Lenovorola actually has a pretty stock version of Android which is a positive, but the length of updates is not as good as competitors.

The thing with your Xiaomis is that you get top of the line hardware ruined by a skin arguably worse than Samsung's. They're cracking down on bootloader unlock, so you're maybe stuck with the bloat.

was given an iphone 13 after being on an SE 2020. phone is great, it's an iphone so nothing much to say, but it's still very big. I was expecting baseline iphones to be a little smaller. I miss my one handed use but I'd lose money trading it in for a 13 mini. now I hear that the next SE might be a 16e and just be a similar size as any other iphone. SE was comfy, I really miss it though one thing I really like is that battery on the 13 is so much better. plus it's the last physical sim iphone. it's never been so over for the small phone crowd

Don't really play games on my phone much, my main sticking points are a nice screen, a decent (for its price range) camera and a reasonable battery (my mi lite 11 drains like crazy these days).
I'm considering either the nothing or stepping up in price a little and getting a pixel 8a.

As far as battery is concerned Pixel 8a is gonna get smoked by almost anything at that price point. It has the perfect storm of crap. A chip that likes to chug electricity, a small(ish) battery capacity and ancient charging speeds by today's standards.
There are reasons to get a Pixel but battery is not one of them.

I don't want to spend as much as i did last time, so i'm looking for something basic, which supports a basic amount of apps, without clutter.
But i also don't want a phone that'll get outdated after a year, or something.
Any advice?

Oppo, Realme and OnePlus are the same company and it's one of the biggest chink manufacturers. As far as support longevity goes they're... pretty middle of the road. More expensive models last couple of years, while entry level shit gets like 1 update tops, lel.

How worthwhile is it to buy a 2-year-old flagship? I have a Galaxy M31, and while it works fine I would like something that takes better pictures. The base storage Pixel 8 Pro costs €500 right now, and if I wait until summer (I don't think I will replace my phone before then) it will be even cheaper — though I wonder if by then it will still make sense to pick it over a newer midrange model.

Absolutely not! It's mostly because almost everyone in /g/ hates the Apple's products.

Since you're not allowed to use the uBlock Origin, then the only app that you truly need is the Ad Guard because it's mandatory. Everything else is just optional.

Just go to the Google and search for "the best iOS apps" and I guarantee that you're going to get what you want.

Also, the objectively best iOS video game is the Goblin Sword. It's just an objectively amazing Castlevania clone and it's actually a hard game.

honestly, i find pixel phones incredibly overpriced and overrated. you pay top dollar for mediocre build quality, higher mid range cpu, last gen hardware and atrocious battery life. and to be honest, its not like you get anything solid in return. youtube shills will try to convince you that the camera is the best in the world, but i disagree. it is no significantly better or worse than those from other top players. even the best smartphone cameras will take at least 2 bad out of 10 shots and its easy to cherrypick and construct an argument, which is what google-paid shills are doing in favor of pixel
the next thing that pixel supposedly brings to the table for all those compromises mentioned earilier is optimization and better performance, being google product and all, but that is straight BS. even obscure chinkphones with shittiest, heaviest android skins you can imagine will pull ahead in very demanding tasks simply because of better hardware
maybe you dont care about all that and arent a heavy user so you wont notice it, surely you will appreciate the supposedly best android experience? wrong again. pixel misses so many features that you have on samsung and take for granted. it can feel like ios in that regard, it will drive you insane, i guarantee it

if you want to buy a phone and just forget about it, a phone that youll be able to use for 5 or 6 years and not have to tinker and make workarounds, pixel is just not for you. it's an enthusiast oriented phone for people who like to first to be able to play with objectively useless gimicks that will be removed in couple of updates anyway

I've previously owned Xiaomi phones, and this year I was forced to buy a new phone due to the botched 3G shutdown in Australia. I "upgraded" to a Samsung Galaxy A15 which has turned out to be a total piece of shit.

Aside from the endlessly buggy touchscreen one of the main annoyances for me has been the Samsung software. It requires me to unlock the phone to turn on my hotspot (I'm currently hotspotting to my old Poco X3 Pro because it's a better phone and logged into all my accounts), with no way to disable this, whereas I could turn on the hotspot from the swipe-down menu on both of my old Xiaomis without unlocking. I can't think of other concrete examples off the top of my head but there have been lots of little annoyances like this. Compared to the Xiaomi phones I've owned before, many tasks seem to take more actions to achieve them.

I'm going to seek a refund under warranty because of the buggy touchscreen, but I still need to get a new phone. Any suggestions for:
>great photos
>decent battery
>relatively smooth software experience
>3.5mm jack
>front mounted fingerprint sensor
>dual SIM
>won't be used for gaming
>doesn't default to 3G for emergency calls on Australian networks
>OK bang-for-buck

WhatsApp is connected to your phone and can't switched from phone to phone. This is how it works on ALL phones, not just iOS.

But other Androids let you switch your messages from phone to phone. iPhone doesn't let you switch your text messages from one iPhone to a non iPhone? Sounds like a shit phone desu.

The battery safety update on the Pixel 4a essentially bricked its usability.
I enjoy the small form factor and was waiting for a worthy successor but alas I must jump ship now.
From what I've looked at, the 8a (or 7pro but it has a curved edge, older chip and fewer updates) seems like a safe bet.
Did I miss an obvious choice? What would be the best sub 400€ thing to buy right now? Ideally to last the longest time possible.

The Notes are extinct now but they had styluses, bigger screens and sd card slots. Their spiritual successor is the Ultra but those don't have sd card slots but instead have high internal storage. The S series are the flagship phones with an emphasis on build quality, cameras, updates, RAM etc.

The A series is their mid tier to low tier phones. The first number indicates how good the phone is based on chipset, RAM and cost (A0x being the lowest quality, A5x being the highest quality). The second number in the name indicates what iteration it is (A52 is older than the A55).

The M series is the India exclusive phones.

The Z series is their foldable lineup and they're pretty self explanatory.

Chinks get really good prices on their phones iirc. Like 99% of their market is china. In terms of performance they're lagging behind a lot, but as far as other things go (build quality, cameras, screen, etc.) they're doing well. If they didn't sell them for such high prices in the west I'd maybe be interested since I don't use many play store apps anyway.

I got the Pixel 9 and I love it so much. Only thing I dislike is the power button being on the same side as the volume keys. Pixels can have better roms for a zero bloat experience. I had the 7 before the 9 and it's was honestly pretty great. Zero complaints. I run Lineage. You just want to remove the Google room rom for one of the many many cool oses out there. Takes fantastic pictures. I had a nothing phone and it was fine, but there was a severe lack of quality custom roms for it. It had 3 roms and they all kind of sucked ass in some form or fashion. NothingMuch, OrangeFox, and Lineage. Lineage was totally broken for me. NothingMuch worked but would randomly reboot the phone and was overall buggy. OrangeFox stopped being a rom and instead is just a bootloader these days. Most people who get a nothing phone, root them, remove everything Google, and live like they're homeless. That kind of killed nothing phones for me for the immediate future. Another great phone was OnePlus. OnePlus happens to have pretty incredible devices with an amazing rom community support. I'm getting the op13 soon and I'll let you know but the op12 and op12r are really really decent if you're dead set against giving google a single penny.

Samsung phones are shit from day 1 so there's that. Forced full screen 15 second unskippable ads within the os itself baked right in. You can no longer root samsung devices as Samsung now factory locks the bootloaders. If you try you'll brick your device. You'll trip knox and you'll have a $1500 brick. Unlocking the oem unlock on Samsung devices only lets you swap eSIMs. There's reports that the s24 was rooted but it fucks up your device. It will disable wireless charging, limit you to 50% battery, disable access to anything you'd actually want to do etc. it will not be a good time. I tried on my s22 and it was not a good experience. After that, I swore off Samsung for life.

Is an iPhone the only real choice here?

The Pixel 11 (skipping 10 for some reason) will have the Tensor G5. The 9a will have a cutdown g4 and the 10 will carry the same g4 for some strange reason. It'll have a 64mp camera bump on the Pixel 10 and an upgraded ai cpu but the core will still be the g4. So fwiw maybe skip the Pixel 10.

That's not a matter of performance, he's scrolling a fucking page. And loads of more complex stuff scrolls smoothly on pixels, but a lot of non-google apps don't.

It's a matter of performance and I want my pages to scroll smoothly when I pay $1000 for a phone. Snapdragons are perfectly smooth so clearly it's a Tenshit issue.
>loads of more complex stuff scrolls smoothly
Like?
>a lot of non-google apps don't
Delusional. You're implying the scheduler treats Gapps differently? Prove it.
Both third party benchmarks AND real world usage show that Tensor is shit and Pixels are laggy. You're high on copium.

Tensor is shit but it's performance isn't so bad that it would cause lag like that. Even much weaker chips can handle it.
As for an example of smooth scrolling, the google news feed you get if you move to the left of your home screen. I don't know exactly what causes it, but software is to blame, not hardware. Tensor causes a lot of issues but you don't need a SD8 to run fucking reddit

Pixels are at most $699. If you're buying one for $1000 you've done zero research and it shows. There's no difference between the Pixel 9 and 9 pro. So get the 9. Or 8 for cheaper. Stop being such a massive faggot your whole life for starters.

So you have no idea and yet you're certain it's software?
>you don't need a SD8 to run fucking reddit
Reddit is bloated as fuck as are most modern websites, you need a lot of oomph for all that JS. Not necessarily 8 Elite but clearly at least a mid-range chip not the budget Xiaomi tier Tensor.
Curious how Pixels underperform in all Electron apps despite Blink V8 being fairly well optimized for ARM64 and not having any Snapdragon specific flags. It's almost as if Tensor is just trash by about any metric and benchmark be it Speedometer, Geekbench, actual use or anything else. Mediatek also runs circles around Tensor. But yes keep coping that's not a Tensor issue, it's just 90% of all Android software being biased against Tensor.
What about graphics test? Tensor 4 in Pixel 9 Pro XL scores 8800 in Wild Life, S8 Gen 3 scores 17900. Mediatek Dimensity 9300 and 9400 similarly smoke Tensor here.

Tensor G4 is slower than Dimensity 9300 in $400 phones.
It barely matches the S7+ G3 from last year's budget phones like OnePlus Nord 4.
It's a mid range chip you have to pay $1000 for (or $700 for sissy version).

Late 2025/Early 2026 we get TSMC 2nm. So S23U -> S26U will be two node jumps with late 2025 S8 Elite Gen 2. Apple won't have a monopoly on it because volume production beings in June at the earliest so they'll put it in iPhone 18 not 17.
