To the anon who suggested moondrop space travel, they are fucking amazing, these are my first tws. They are really convenient. They sound a bit dull compared to my chu2 and snoy 7506, they get more use than chu2 though. Thanks anon, you are the best.

They look awful though anon. I want something I can run around in and not look retarded. Not using chu2 because the cables are too short to use it with my PC. I want the cables to be almost as long as my 7506, then I'd use them more.

Figure out what you don't like about your e500 and then look for IEMs that will fix those problems. Buying IEMs is closer to buying shoes than to buying CPUs. Nothing is simply "better".

>hexa is ass.
Why?
>>103926889
I like neutral-ish tuning, but E500 is not exciting/lively enough for some songs. I concluded that E500 is not great with electric guitar, bass guitar, and the bass is not punchy enough.
For example I want these to sound more exciting and fuller.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=66FfVXogNUc
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hr39Ucq_bMM
I also have D-Fi switch, which can cover that issue, but it feels like the instruments overlap each other.

BGVPOS DMA has arrived. No unboxing because there's not much to show. My impressions so far (I suck at reviewing):
*Although the soundstage isn't very spacious, it has a perceivable atmosphere. There's decent imaging to the point your inner eye can almost see how an instrument is played.
*The instrument separation is great; you can single out one as easily as a thread in fabric and follow it as the song goes on.
*The detail retrieval is pretty nice; I've discovered new sounds in relatively familiar tracks (e.g., that background jingle in We Drift Like Worried Fire at around 4:50).
*The bass is textured and full-bodied but very lively and dynamic, also punchy when it needs to be. It extends beyond the soundstage, adding a lot to the atmosphere, and is definitely the highlight of this IEM.
*The vocals feel intimate and natural (note to myself: try listening to some ASMR), and the mids are pretty clean overall.
*The treble is crisp but can be very shouty (esp. in games) to the point I'll have to use EQ. What the fuck were they thinking?
*The channel imbalance is there. That pestering thought that you might be going deaf won't leave your mind once you've noticed it, even if you know about the imbalance.
The build and comfort are where my biggest disappointment comes from. The build is standard, but no attempt was made to make it slightly more ergonomic. The nozzles are huge, almost as huge as the pain in the ass you experience looking for the right eartips. At least the nozzles have lips. The cable is thick and seems durable, but it's fairly heavy and pulls on your ears, making this IEM rather uncomfortable and even painful to wear for prolonged periods of time. Also, at one point, I started to feel tingling at what seemed to be the exact points BC holes made contact with my skin. Well, I suppose it proves that bone conduction works.
Is it worth it? Maybe if you have money to spare and are interested in relatively obscure IEMs.

small and cute for carrying around and using in the car VS the LG V30
so far, sounds worse than the V30, but the form factor is a lot better, has more power on tap (easily selectable gain mode compared to the LG which is a pain), great screen, decent to use UI, no major bugs.
About what I expected honestly.

Even more certain Hexa is very much a non-ideal IEM for you. to try next. If you live where you can order from Amazon you can simply try it yourself and return if you don't like it. Hexa has lifeless weak bass with an overall bland tuning, middling technicalities, and subpar timbre. You'll get better separation than D-Fi, that's a very low bar.

Asked in the headphone general, got directed to here. copy/pasta
I'm from /fit/, so this isn't really my cup of tea, sorry in advance. Anyways, my ear buds just kicked the bucket. One of them isn't holding a charge and both are delivering a much lower quality than when I bought them, and they're far beyond the warranty date. Shopping for new earbuds is tough because you can't really listen to the music, you just have to take some shill's word for it. My buds were alright but they had a handful of features that I didn't care much for so I'm looking to branch out. I saw a few reviews about the JBL endurance peak 3's but they don't have active noise cancelling and the wind interference is a bit fucked. The JBL live pro 2's apparently have a lot of these features but not the ear hooks so I'm not entirely sold on those. I was looking at the Soundcore sport x20's but the more I read about them the more they seem to be a great decision or a lemon and I don't really want to risk that. Galaxy buds 3 pro seem alright but they're a bit over budget and no ear hook. But I do have a Samsung phone so it is a bit tempting to pay the extra since they're apparently so seamless. But then that raises the question about getting the 3's vs the pro 3's. Silicone ear tips get pushed out by my ear wax a lot, but having the speaker right up against the wax makes the speaker more dirty and faster. Both ways suck.
>why do you want the ear hooks
I sweat a lot and my ears have always made excess wax and it builds up very quickly despite cleaning them every other day or so, which makes standard ear buds not want to stay in like they should. I guess they're not really in mass produced ear buds anymore so I'll look at a lot of things.
Is there anything you guys recommend within these constraints?

Beats Powerbeats Pro are unironically good for what you're asking for. You should evaluate individual products, not brands.
Else when we're talking about earhook TWS it's a bunch of scamazon chinkshit of dubious quality. It's a niche form factor that is not audiophile-centric, it's for people running or working who barely give a crap about audio quality. FYI ANC that works well in wind is 1/100. You want to avoid enabling ANC as the mic and software-processing is simply not up to the task 90% of the time if we're talking running on a windy day.
I have Buds 3 Pro and various other TWS, IEMs, etc. I personally do not work out or run with anything in my ears because i prefer it that way (not to mention a phone flopping around in your pocket / arm band / w/e). Basically any earphones without earhooks (even with earhooks) jostle around and loosen over time during vigorous activity, and I can't be bothered to constantly re-adjust. Buds 3 Pro have a feature which automatically adjusts sound according to seal.

And I know I mentioned focusing on specific products, not brands, but as a general chink audio company in the Amazon TWS space, I like Soundpeats on average more than Anker Soundcore stuff. I assume either brand has a few models of earhook style as you request, I'd go with them over any other FANGOU XINYU rando branded earhooks if that's the direction you're leaning.

Maybe relevant to you, some people like / want open-ear / open-air form factor (nothing seals your ears, it's more like audio playing from mini-speakers next to your ear). FiiO and EPZ, and again many random chinknames have models like this, along with Shokz.

I'm looking for something to use in the gym so it has to be bluetooth (I known it's not optimal but bear with me)

media: mainly Spotify though I use lossless flacs for albums I often listen to, source: iPhone 16 Pro, environment: mainly gym, also while working
>Frequency response preference and music examples
No idea sorry
>Past gear and your thoughts on them
I'm using Airpods Pro 1st gen for convenience but I don't really like them. I think the battery's starting to fail after a few years now since I'm constantly recharging them. I use a DT 1990 at home and never owned IEMs otherwise. I really like the DT 1990s.

I saw one of those in Best Buy a few weeks ago but it felt really awkward with them dangling like that. But I'll give them another look since now I'm in the market for earbuds again, can't hurt to look.
>>103933868
Hey even if it's chinkshit if it does what I need it to do I'll give it a go. I looked at Soundpeats on YouTube the other day but a handful of the people in the comments spoke about how the mic picks up a lot of wind and disrupts the music and shit so I kind of wrote them off based on that. But I mostly run on a treadmill so fuck it, I'll have another look.

>You should evaluate individual products, not brands
You're right, I'm just being hardheaded. I watched a video a long time ago where they tested some Beats tech and found no difference between those and no-name shit as well as adding weights to make it "feel" high end, but ask 3 times the price so I've been at odds with Dre ever since. But if it fits my needs and my budget I'll have a look at the very least, it can't hurt. I just don't care for apple products at all, after owning 2 iPads and a Macbook for schoolwork.
>Buds 3 Pro have a feature which automatically adjusts sound according to seal.
That's interesting for the same reasons you described. I appreciate the inputs anon. I will get up early tomorrow and hit up Best Buy and see what they have, try some stuff out and just see what feels good and sturdy.

That's a big portion of audio gear in general lol. I'm empathetic to your point, but it's a reality of a lot of goods. Beats Powerbeats Pro did a decent job aiming for Harman target with nothing offensively wrong sound-wise. Can't speak to their other products like headphones.

Like I mentioned in a post, ANC that functions well with higher outside wind noise is 1/100. It is a rare exception if something on the cheaper end handles it well, you're better turning off the ANC. ANC mainly targets ambient crowd / people noise, engine hum, etc.

Story time.
My AFUL POS 5+2 broke within a month and I got a free replacement which also broke within a month. Both times, the DDs died only on the left side. I bothered Hifigo about it for a while and they gave me a full refund for sending everything back at my own expense for shipping. So I guess they're not so bad if you're persistent. The weird thing is, I had to send it to a US address and I don't think they have a business office here, so it went to some chicken wing restaurant in Atlanta. The guy who signed for the package had a Chinese name though. Yes, I know I could've done 2 return swap scams by abusing Amazon's return policy but I am a moral citizen.
Anyway, it seems like the Dusk has the same problem with the DDs dying. The theory by reddit is that small amounts of moisture gets trapped inside over time without any way to evaporate out the vent. This shorts out the crossover. That doesn't explain why it's only the left side for everyone though.

I'm looking at a fairly cheap dongle/portable DAC that has integrated EQ to make it nicer to use with multiple devices. Something like the Quidelix 5k would be perfect but I want cheaper.
Fiio JA11 seems good but apparently it is a bit buggy and it also has only 5 bands (not a huge deal but still).
Also what's the cheapest bluetooth one that does on-device parametric EQ?

Hey, kinda new to this place.
I want to get a good pair of TWS earbuds for a 200-250~ dollar budget. I currently have the Linkbuds S, and while they are fantastic buds, the battery doesn't last shit.
I got to try the sony wf-1000xm5, which I thought were terribly uncomfortable. I just couldn't get used to the tips or the bulbous shape, even after swapping the tips for my Linkbuds S.
A lot of the brands from the rentry are not popular in my country, so I'd be paying a hundred extra dollars just for importation fees. That said, is Aliexpress a reliable place to buy these kinds of buds from? I know there's some legit stores, and I usually see stuff for around 30~ dollars less there. I just don't trust the chinese enough to lend them 200 dollars on good faith.
So far I eyed the Nothing Ear (2) after a friend let me try them on. Comfortable, and they sounded nice I guess.

Scarbir.com is your friend. All these tws are eventually e waste when the batteries degrade, so paying a lot is stupid.
The QCY Melobuds Pro are the current flavor of the month, I like mine. ANC is passable, good battery life, and you can tweak the sound in the app.

Mass pos impressions (meteor edition):
>Moondrop Meteor
Sound signature is bass-lite, airy, bright neutral, kinda like the Cadenza 4/Truthear Zero (blue). Unfortunately, treble is mildly harsh, female vocals end with a sharp ‘SH’ in its articulation, but easily remedied with tip-rolling. Good for EDM/electronic, though it’s bass-lite tuning does handicap note-weight and the timbre of instruments.
Stupid marketing gimmick, but sound is okay. Side-grade to Cadenza 4. 7/10.
>Truthear Hexa
Even weaker low-end than the Meteor. Absolutely terrible for classical – initial attack lacks bite due to shit bass, while decay is unnatural due to poor treble extension. But resolution and male vocals are decent I guess. 5/10.
>64audio Solo
Solo is just a bassy S12. With the same planar zing, and the same sibilance. At least the low-end is enjoyable. Male vocals sound overly husky for some reason. Side-grade to all planars on the market. 6.5/10.
>Symphonium x Nightjar Meteor
The BETTER Meteor. Bassy V tuning, reminiscent of the Elysian Annihilator 2023. Enjoyable low-end and tons of sparkle without being harsh. Very fun to listen to. Only con is that it suffers from BA bass and could use a bit more slam.
95% of the Annihilator for one-fifth of the price. Even better if you can find a used set. 9.5/10.

I just unpacked my Truthear Hexa and like a fucking idiot I stuck the connector into the two holes of the speaker (it fit quite well, unfortunately). It seems I pierced a red and green membrane in there, at least when I compare it to the other uninjured earpiece. So far, they sound normal and good. Did I only pierce the debris filter? If so, how bad is that? I keep my ears clean and will keep the IEMs in the little leather sachet they came with.

I wanna mess around with EQ on an Android tablet. I am new to doing anything with EQ. Wavelet seemed like exactly what I wanted. I got the permissions working (DUMP and notifications) for the more advanced application tracking. With that working, it still cannot detect a chrome or chromium web browser. Is this possible using any method, app, or browser? It does detect stuff like Youtube or VLC just fine. Its a bit of a deal breaker for me and I can't find any information on if its possible to get working or not.

For imbalance you can use whatever, but metal doesn't bend so there will be less variation between inserts. The program is REW, it's in java so should work on linux. On android you can use some app with RTA(real-time analyzer) while playing pink noise. RTA is trickier to use than sine sweep, for pure pink noise it will be constantly shifting so you'll need averaging, for periodic pink noise analyzer settings should perfectly match the noise generator. It's a limitation of Fourier transform.

When I saw your image I immediately recognized the red navigation rocker. My 20 year old Rio Nitrus has the same thing. My Rio Nitrus still works....... but, it requires proprietary software to load music onto it, so I've had the same music and audiobooks on it for over a decade. What I really like about it is that it has a 1.5GB harddrive in it. When you turn it on, it makes a small hum. It's like it's alive.
I'd be interested in selling it to someone who'd appreciate it. I don't use it anymore.

There usually different modes you can set with wireless phones. They control whether you will accept pauses or lag between video and audio when the connection isn't good. This can happen in environments where the BT network is very busy, for example. If you select the mode that focuses on uninterrupted play and avoiding lag, it the only way it can ensure that is reducing the amount of data transmitted.

by the very unquestionable definition, if the codec is LOSSY, there is a quality LOSS
it's not a belief or a cablefags' cope, it's a fact
it does not help that almost all codecs are completely lossy and even if a codec is lossless, it's only up to a certain threshold, which means no lossless 384KHz 24bit music for bluetoothfags

that's not how this works, audio is always transcoded to whatever bt codec is used and the only truly lossless bt codec is aptx lossless and it's limited to 44.1kHz/16bit
granted the better bt codecs should be almost always audibly transparent, so it's much of a problem
bigger issue is the integrated electronics and anc, background hiss is sadly all too common

While we're on the topic of BT and TWS, the Tanchjim Mino is very solid in terms of sound quality and overall features. Still have to test the battery life more thoroughly.
Measurements and review coming soon, will have to check to see if I can still do the usual insertion depth measurements.

I had the TinHifi T2 for quite a while and liked them. They felt quite airy and gave distorted or overdriven guitars a good shriek. Bass wasn't very pronounced, but I'm not a bass boy anyway. It quickly makes music sound muddy and impenetrable to me. I lost the T2s, however. Do I just get them again or is there an upgrade at around 100 bucks?

try autoeq/wavelet and it will change the frequence response to harmanIE. it's not a great FR target imo (too shouty and thin) but it is more similar to modern IEMs and should give you a better reference
>Will a a better IEM with a neutral profile give me that airy/shrieky sound that I liked, but just better?
depends on what you qualify as neutral, which is a lot more complicated than you think

/iemg/ being a revolving door of newfags makes it difficult to discuss non-$20 pos.
also the perpetual cycle of newfags (who heard/owned less than 10 iems) recommending zero:reds/hexa to tourists doesnt exactly make for an engaging discussion

I can throw a bunch of tips on more comfortable IEM, but no tip will make huge IEM like the Blessings or Nova comfortable for me.
In general i always go for FiiO HS18

Bought FiiO HS20 for the collection.
Sonically it's similar to the Nicehck07 and BGVP "A07" tips, aka nothing special. Also the liquid silcone material is ultra flimsy compared to the coriers/rdm zone clear.
And yea I know ear anatomy is subjective, but the HS20 requires a really aggressive upward tilt on the IEM nozzle for me to get a proper seal. Meaning the Supermix 4 & Duality didn't work, only the Salnotes Zero (the small shell helps too).
Wouldn't recommend.

hard to say exactly since it depends on your insertion depth
yu9 fish is a replica and measures the same, or you can try the 7th acoustics proxima

apart from the proxima, maybe something like the ola? it's a rather rare tuning for regular pos

yes just apple dong. even if you pay for "better," DACs, they have bottlenecked voltage via the Lightning connection (compared to PD2.0 USB-C ports) anyways so you don't get full juice from them.
