Hey guys, first time posting!
So, I managed to figure out all the components for my PC, aside from a PC case. The more I look, the more I am undecided, as all the cases seem to be a bit too confusing for me, as to what is good quality and what is not.
For reference, I have an Asus TUF RTX 4080 Super and I got an Arctic Freezer III 360mm, as well as 9800x3D. With that in mind, what would you recommend? I'm looking for premium build quality case, so price isn't exactly an issue.

wonder if the 5090 will act like the 4090 when it comes to price development.
Will I be able to sell it for the same price I bought it before the 6090 comes out?

I showed my wife the OP pics from these threads, and now she wants me to put an anime figure into the computer I'm building for her (out of spare parts from my computer, since I'm in the middle of upgrading everything). She also fully supported me spending $300 on an anime figure to eventually put in a future computer of mine, but that won't be for many years.

I tried OLED, I was expecting a revolution, it's more like, yeah it's not that bad
Same thing as upgrading your smartphone if you already have one basic slab phone, the price jump going from a china 150bux phone to a top of the line 1500 bux one literally changes nothing, its the same base experience
We've hit diminishing returns heavily
Might have to say that the poorfag price performance justifiers might be right after all
Unless you really really care about pq absolutely
But idk, there are even more things to consider too
Things are getting harder and harder to justify these days you get buyers remorse on everything unless you are just loaded and can buy things like you buy gum I guess
Even then

I used OLED 15 years ago on a phone and it was shit too due to the horrendous pixel structure and low res
Nothing to do with mah blacks or anything could save that
I've used TN during that period, va, ips
Idk

>graphics score
People who care about benchmarking Time Spy in '24~'25 don't give a fuck about its graphics score in isolation.
That test's value in '24~'25 is scaling well with CPU & memory overclocking.
That graphics test is so fucking old that it's CPU bottlenecking modern cards. Officially recognized by the creators of that test.
>Running at a native 4k resolution, it [Steel Nomad] improves upon Time Spy with more modern implementations of graphics technologies and is roughly three times heavier for your PC than Time Spy, and almost seven times heavier than Fire Strike.
>You can see this is not reflected in the data from a high-end GPU from 2024, as CPU bottlenecking is negatively impacting frame times in Fire Strike and Time Spy.
https://benchmarks.ul.com/news/3dmark-steel-nomad-is-out-now
If you're going to show off Time Spy benchmarks, at least learn how to overclock your CPU & memory as well.

The sad thing about HDR in games is that it's generally shitty because barely anyone has good HDR monitors so there's not enough people complaining about it.
I've been using HDR in elden ring and I have to use special K to unfuck the default HDR implementation. Then you have have online games where you can't unfuck the HDR with mods or anything that messes with .dlls otherwise you get banned, shit sucks. RTX HDR seems nice but it's too limited atm, it defaults to the highest quality which has a performance cost and it forces you to use a single monitor. There's an RTX HDR mod which allows you to use lower quality options and mutliple monitors but again that's one of those things that might get you banned from online games and it has the drawback of requiring HDR to be enabled across all connected monitors.

Why don't you post your GPU usecase and benchmark it there? What is it? Blender? Surely not machine learning on AMD GPU. And of gaming, then do gaming benchmark.
As simple as. Benchmark power means nothing if it doesn't reflect real world usecase. Protip: it doesn't. You can dream about your theoretical GPU performance as much as you want.

This was one of the shortcomings of Arc Alchemist admitted by Intel’s Tom Petersen in a podcast interview.
Time Spy is an ancient benchmark anyway, all this shows is GeForce’s newer chips are focused on more modern gaming performance.

dust is an extremely overblown issue and unless you care about aesthetics, you're find dusting your pc once every 3 years. Dust is only an issue on stuff like laptops that have an incredibly small and tight space for cooling, plus no dust filters and is always placed on places full of human skin, with the dead skin from your hands contributing too. I have NEVER seen a desktop's thermals actually suffer from dust

AMD abandoned the high end again but the 5080 is such an absolute dud that their top card (midrange) might still have more than 80% of its performance in raster. The 50 series is a bad joke.

I've seen a computer that was caked in dust internally, and it was filthy. That said, it was an older computer, and I don't remember if it had a dust filter. Ever since then, I've only used cases with dust filters, and I've never had an issue with dust again. My desk accrues far more dust that anything inside my computer, and barely ever clean the filters either.

They are made with "form follows function" in mind. You want "design first, function second". If you want a pc case as an eye catcher in the first place, not a perfect object of utility, you get served elsewhere of course. There are gorgeous cases like the Antec Flux Pro that I consider unusable because they have no dust filters or lack in other departments.

The Lian Li doesn't have dust filters behind it's mesh panels ("unusable" in my book) and yet I'm sure the Silent Base performs better because it can have 3x140mm fan in front. The build quality is not the same, the functionality, the dimension are not the same. You are much more limited with the smaller simpler Lancool. You just get what you pay for.

Everybody seemed to focus on 27" 4K, or retardedly high refresh rates. I just want a 32" (or more) 4K OLED display, and as long as it's 120+ Hz, that's more than high enough for me.
Should I go for it? Is there any reason I should hold off?

My 3070 XC3 just crapped out randomly after 2 years. Three red lights, tried reseating it and nothing. Sent it back to EVGA for an RMA and got this. What bullshit. I never spilled anything on this. None of my other components have water damage. WTF do i do now? Is EVGA a scam company? Thinking of buying a 7800xt for a replacement, but people on reddit are complaining about driver issues to this day.
My CPU is a 5600x and power supply is a 650w gold. The internet says the 7800 only needs the recommended 750w if you use ddr5 ram(im using ddr4).

It has begun. I have bought the paste and case (used). Everything else I'll wait till there are some deals in the coming months so it's not so ridiculously marked up.
The motherboard will be either this or a B650M-HDV/M.2 depending on what gets a good deal first. All DDR5 6000mhz 30CL ram over here are around the same price as these corsairs even the cheaper brands so I might as well get the corsairs. Just missed a good deal on the fans so I'm pissed about that, sucks when there's a deal when I first start looking so I don't realize I should buy them that instant. PSU isn't marked up much over here that's a surprise. GPU will prob be the last thing to buy so until then I'll build it and put in my old ass card

You clearly have never used a large radiator for 8+ hours daily or you live in a clean server room. The amount of dust a radiator can collect is literally breathtaking, choking. The more air throughput a case has with several large intake fans the more dust it sucks in unless you have fine-meshed air filters in front of the fans. It's so much easier to just pull out a removable dust filter and clean it in the kitchen or in the outside than cleaning a radiator or aircooler heatsink that is clogged with dust.

Seriously though, learn to tune your whole system, look at your CPU score compared to mine, it's 48% better.
I don't usually OC my video card or CPU, but it took me less than 5 runs to get a top 3 result for my card & CPU.
There might be more GPU core boost left in my FE because Time Spy is a complete joke, but I'm not wasting my time doing more runs.

That is with a worse 14700K IMC bin compared to the two results ahead of mine (7200MT/s & 7600MT/s).

EVGA is out of the GPU market now. They used to be one of the best AIB makers for Nvidia cards but they couldn't stay profitable and left the market.
They did and still do make PSUs that were (are still?) some of the best. They also made a small selection of super high end motherboards.
I don't know what they're doing now, the most recent stuff they made is 3000 series, they checked out before 4000. That response seems like a cop out because they don't want to support an "old" card like that that isn't produced anymore, despite stating they would continue to honor warranties on 3000 series cards.
Shame, they used to be one of the most respected brands in the industry, not sure what to think of them anymore.

Intel Arc Alchemist was posting good Time Spy scores that didn't translate well in real game performance.
That caused Intel to do a more thorough performance testing when developing Battlemage.

Practically any 13/14th gen -K CPU can run 6800MT/s retard, I have an average CPU at best. The CPU is painfully mediocre.
https://youtu.be/2-LqWdvoFLY?t=1163
The only two results ahead of mine have a better IMC, with one guy BCLK OCing his system near 7600MT/s.
CPU binning doesn't explain the 48% CPU score deficiency compared to that retard's, assuming he has a 13600K or better CPU.
He shouldn't be owning a 7900XTX if he owns a CPU worse than a 13600K.
The 7900XTX doesn't know how to OC his CPU & memory.

Ok looks like they sent some pics. The water damage appears to have accumulated under the heat shroud. I have never spilled shit on this thing. None of my other components are water damaged. I think the heat shroud caused a condensation issue. This thing just crapped out in the middle of the day. Nothing leading up to it.
There are no water spots below the card. No catastrophic water spills occurred.

Wouldn't recommend either for a new build but the 5700X3D is better for gaming which is the most popular use. If you do work on your PC, and have an existing AM4 board, you could do worse than a 5950X (or 5900XT).

Building new pc, standard 9800X3D, with whatever card is good for 1440p in the next month.
Questions:
What's the point of getting higher priced mobos and which one should I aim for gaymen?
Any recommendations for a nice black tower with no rgb shit? I don't mind a single glass panel.
With AIO coolers, is there a slot or something in the case to fit the radiator?
I'm a electrician so I'm not retarded, just checking if cases come with a mounting point or do I have to get creative (I can't find any information)
Cheers.

Past like $180-200, perhaps even cheaper, a more expensive mobo isn't going to make your computer perform better. For AM5 in particular, the VRMs start to get overkill pretty quickly, so unless you're planning on doing competitive overclocking or some shit, some crazy power phase design on a $500 board isn't going to do any better than one in the aforementioned price cutoff. The only other thing I would say that matters in terms of performance is PCB layers, where you'd ideally want to go for 8 layers over 6, which should in theory lead to an easier time overclocking memory at higher speeds / tighter timings. That being said, AM5 CPUs are far more likely to be limited by their internal memory controller before the board will factor in, and 6 vs 8 layers shouldn't really make a difference at the 6000-6400mhz timings you'll be more likely to run stably on a 9800X3D. If you win the silicon lottery and have a chip with an IMC that could push 8000mhz+ (the only point where it'd be worth switching to a 2:1 ratio instead of 1:1 between UCLK and MCLK that'd you should be able to get between 6000-6400mhz) then maybe an 8 layer board is more worthwhile, but it's impossible to tell if you'll win the silicon lottery, and the gains at 8000mhz+ 2:1 are so marginal that you probably won't even notice them outside of benchmarking. The only other thing that could matter is PCIE Gen 5 vs 4 for the GPU slot, if you plan to get a 5000 series card, but I doubt anything but the 5090 would come close to saturating 16 lanes of PCIE 4.
The point of higher priced mobos are other features that are more quality of life. More IO ports in general, USB4 ports, digital post code display, Ez release levers/buttons for PCIE slots or toolless M2 installation.
Past like $180-200, perhaps even cheaper, a more expensive mobo isn't going to make your computer perform better. Water does not get trapped like that, if humidity can get in, it can get out. Especially on a component that gets hotter than ambient.
There is something you aren't telling us anon. There are otherwise many of backplates that are soild pieces of aluminum with no vents and no one is ending up with randomly corroded GPUs.

More expensive boards (X670E / X870E chipsets for instance) have more PCIE lanes to allocate, which usually means you don't have to disable certain features like secondary/tertiary PCIE slots or USB4 ports in order to use specific M2 slots. This is a crapshoot even for most boards over $300 however, where you're basically locked into using only 2 M2 slots if you don't want to downgrade the main PCIE GPU slot from x16 to x8 (PCIE Gen 5 might be beneficial for this, because a 4090 would perform worse at PCIE x8 than x16 if it was on a Gen 4 slot, but it's far less likely it would matter at all if it went from PCIE 5 x16 to x8) You'll really need to look into specific boards to see how they divvy up PCIE lanes and what starts to get disabled / downgraded if you want to use more than 1-2 M2 drives. This is mainly because a lot of the more expensive boards force the M2 Gen 5 meme (useless for gaming) and give you 2 to 3 of those types of slots, which eat up lanes. Then you have companies like ASROCK who make the X870 Steel Legend that has 3 M2 slots (1 Gen 5, 2 Gen 4) which do cause any lane splitting if you use all three of them. There's a guy named Ronin-Wilde on youtube who has videos for every currently available X870/X870E board breaking down how they allocate PCIE lanes. I would recommend checking him out, just so that you have a sense of what to look for when assessing other chipsets (B550 and it's successor B850 that is releasing in coming days, X670 and X670E)

Yes it does. Air has humidity. Flowing air with restricted ventilation accumulates it into drops. AC units for houses all have a condensation drip line because of this.

Air has humidity but it isn't going to condense into large water pools like that unless it's on a very cold surface compared to the ambient temperature. Since that GPU would be at or above ambient literally always your theory is crap. It is literally more likely that they poured something on it themselves for an excuse not to fix it.

that is NOT THE SAME. Air conditioners accumulate condensation because the inner components are cooled to way below ambient so moisture collects in them. GPUs are HOT and the cooling for them is a fucking fan, not coolant. None of the GPU components are below ambient, ever.

To answer your other questions, how much are you looking to spend on a case? The Be Quiet Silent 802 that gets recommended by some anons here might fit your needs, or perhaps something like a Fractal North. On the cheaper side you could get something like a Montech Air 903 Base, which comes with no fans, and then buy some non RGB ones. It's hard to give too many recommendations since the price range hasn't been set.
Cases will generally specify if they can accommodate 240mm, 360mm, or 420mm AIOs and where. For example some cases can accommodate a 360mm AIO if you mount the radiator where they front fans would normally go, while it may only be able to fit a 240mm AIO if you were planning to install the radiator at the top of the case. At the same time, just because a case says it can accommodate 360mm AIOs in a specific location doesn't mean it can accommodate every 360mm AIO in that area. The Arctic Liquid Freezer III, which is consider to be far and away one of the best AIOs you can get for price to performance, has a pretty thick radiator component with the fans installed, and it may not fit in a case that says it can do 360mm AIOs. You'll definitely want to see if you can find posts online of people confirming they can fit the specific AIO you intend to buy in your intended case, or you might have to spend some time really sussing out the dimensions on your own.
If a case says it can fit an AIO in XYZ location then typically you just screw it in there with the screws that come with the AIO, I don't think you'll come across any sort of fancy mounting needs.

Nigga what?
How humid air turns into drops is when there is sudden drops in temperature and there isn't enough energy in the air to support as much water vapor.
That is not even a sealed backplate. You can literally see the corrosion trough the vents. There is no situation where humid air can enter but not escape.
Your cuckshed probably isn't as nicely insulated and sealed as you make it out to be.

It's just info that's been regurgitated so many times but never updated.
It made more sense when you had general case fans and then you had fans especially made more for CPU coolers. Even then the pressure optimized CPU fans would make better case fans, they where just more expensive than the usual case fans.

Ah perhaps I'm mistaken. I'm still learning about RAM timings and I must have misinterpreted a chart I was reading comparing benchmarks, but I thought 8000mhz+ even with UCLK=MCLK was pretty hard to get on AM5? At least tuned in a way where it would do better than a 6000-6200 1:1 clock.

Flow fans have large spaces between the blades to allow air to be pulled through by the flow from the blades.

it's just a different lottery, you need a good mobo (preferably with 9000-optimized topology) and a kit that can reliably run high frequency but it's a lot more common to get working on all IMCs
in fact it can run on lower VSOC because of low UCLK in 2:1 mode and opens up more headroom for high FCLK if you want to run unsync
even a kinda mid 8000mt/s tune will beat 6400mt/s by the way, don't trust benchmarks using EXPO timings cause those are particularly bad on 8000mt/s kits

Once and for all, Time Spy results aren't representative of a system's real-world gaming performance.
Time Spy even overvalues Intel Arc Alchemist cards, where A770 owners post higher average scores compared to 3060Ti and 3070 systems.
But that benchmark performance doesn't reflect the A770's real gaming performance at all.
And this is why Intel has started to test more real games with Battlemage development.
The only useful metric in Time Spy is its CPU score, it shows how well a system is tuned to deal with CPU & system memory bottlenecks.

You can really cheap out with the mobo just for gaming.
Make sure the case can fit the AIO, some have slots for a 360 mm rad, some don't limiting it to 240 mm.
From my experience, just get a 360 AIO or go air or go custom water loop.

as long as the mobo topology fits (ie. b850/x870 for 9000, b650/x670 for 7000) it *should* be fine enough to run most settings regardless of layers
it's mostly a problem above 8200mt/s imo
>You're saying 2:1 8000mhz will beat 6400 1:1?
it does, but just know that on zen 4/5 what works best is what's most stable if that makes sense.
it's important to check for performance regression and throttling with linpack, vt3, karhu and games, moreso than error-checking with stress tests (do both obviously)

^i left this thing on idle a lot and set the fans to always be above 50% speed because of a fan noise issue. The space heater kicking in could totally raise ambient above 20c. I used to keep the windows open for fresh air, that might have done it.

the GPU will always be hotter than ambient. therefore, condensation will literally form everywhere else before it forms on the gpu. it will form on your desk, walls, clothes, shoes, ceiling, and literally everywhere else, and only after all of those are wet would it possibly form on things that are above ambient like the gpu

Aquacomputer has RGB controllers built into the Aquaero and some other products. The control interface is very nice, but I don't know what the compatibility is like.

Some of the XC3s came with shitty ball bearing fans that grumbled below 50% speed. Me running it at 50%+ in idle introduced more moisture into the COLD system than it could handle.
