Fans aren't magic. Depending on the thermal solution, you can spin the fans at 100% and not improve the temperature compared to 50%.

I understand the relationship between temp and RPM
Just wondering if there is software that derives and adjusts a fan curve dynamically from a target temp/range.
If the target temp is outside of the physically limitations of the cooling, thats a separate issue.

>Up to you if you believe their words
Yeah, I kind of don't. I am interested in knowing more about how the tech works exactly, I wish we get a technical deep dive soon. The idea that you can more than double frame rate in the right conditions with this is kind of mind bending. I have a 4090 and have never used DLSS for anything up until I tried the MH Wilds demo which was total fucking garbage optimization-wise and I was playing at like 45 fps which was a shock. Until I enabled DLSS and frame gen and then it was a crispy 90 no questions asked (but it looked noticeably worse with the weird artifacting and "feel")
That being said at higher resolutions and bigger displays when sitting further away I think the changes were acceptable so yeah I am butt mad that I won't be getting access to that feature at all.

You can enable Super Resolution and Frame Generation separately in most games. If you're heavily CPU limited, obviously run DLAA if you can, or better yet use DLAA or DLSS to target a higher than native resolution with DLDSR or DSR

You generally want 50 - 60 fps already before you enable frame generation
MFG 3x and 4x could easily bump into your monitor's maximum refresh rate if it's anything less than 240Hz.
Even worse if your monitor is 1440p or less because cards like 5070Ti and up should be able to do 100+fps with upscaling before frame gen in most games and then you'd only need regular x2 frame gen to hit 180+fps

>Nope, 4090 chads ate good
How did we eat good if a sub $600 5070 can get better FPS? Raster stops mattering if all of a sudden nvidia is just going to train on every game (I guess they had a lot of data from GeForce Now to start with) and bundle a small blob in every driver update for every game that will let 50x0 card owners double+ their frame rate. And the visual issues will reduce over time as the models get better and better. I don't care about deterministic frame rendering if the power budget has to be 1.5-2x'd just to guarantee every single pixel that's rendered for a scene is in the same place every time. Imagine how much better temps and power usage are for games this way

>How did we eat good if a sub $600 5070 can get better FPS?
Not him. With a good gen what you posted would actually be happening
1070 > 980 Ti
3070 = $1100 street price 2080 Ti
(Obviously there was no XX90 card back then unless you count Titans, which were usually barely faster than the 80 Ti.) The base performance of the 5070 isn't going to be near the 4090, and FG requires a certain base performance to be useful (50+ FPS). The 5070 won't be even close to as usable as the 4090 in workloads like full path tracing for instance.
>Imagine how much better temps and power usage are for games this way
Correct, efficiency is one of main stated reasons that Sony is investing in upscaling so heavily

I'd much rather everyone stop pretending that this is advancement and just let the hardware be the same. Just look at the Geforce 20s, the 10s put all their silicon into rasterization and the 20s really couldn't do any better because they're wasting die space on meme visuals that look bad. Just continue making the old product if you can't make a better product.
It's not like people haven't noticed the stagnation.

7600X is better, especially for games that can take advantage of the greater RAM speed. Older games will run about the same on both. Productivity software like photoshop is much better optimized than gayman so photoshop therefore doesn't make good use of the 5700X3D's cache because it doesn't need it.

I still don't get it. DLSS3 looked at say Frame 1 and Frame 2 and took data from both to make Frame 1.5 In between.
I haven't read much but from video I saw they say DLSS4 looks at Frame 1 and creates Frame 2 3 4 just off that 1 frame alone? How the hell is that even possible? Even if it's using Frames 1 and 2 to make 3 inbetween frames how the hell is it doing that. making 1 can understand but 3 completely separate frames, all ordered correctly, all paced correctly? Makes zero sense. How does it know how to even order the frames correctly?

5900xt would be 400€
5950x would be 350€
both ones in the image I posted are 250€ each
Is the xt better than the x or does the price reflect which one is beefier?

It's stacked dies. A CPU is made by polishing some silicon and then carving the CPU out of the silicon using light. A stacked die is when you stack two of them on top of each other and run copper wires between them to link them.
The advantage of this is that you can take a normal CPU and bolt on some more cache. So the Ryzen 5700X gets some more cache on an extra die and becomes a 5700X3D. The second die only has cache on it, no CPU cores. Video games are usually extremely unoptimized software, and badly optimized software tends to run a lot better when it has extra cache to waste.

I posted this in the last thread but it got archived so i'm reposting, I also posted it to the wrong thread like a dumbass. I’m a little drunk bear with me.
It’s been a while since I’ve been knowledgeable on pc stuff, I’m looking to upgrade my CPU/Ram/Motherboard, I currently have an i7-7700k, and it has been extremely stable, but its really starting to show its age now and I think it's time it gets retired. I know AMD has pretty much caught up with Intel in terms of performance, but what is the difference, besides the price ofc.
I want the CPU to be pretty fast, but still not the most high end thing out there. I want it to be able to last me a long time, just as much as my 7700k did. Enough to play triple a games and do some video editing/motion work.
I would prefer it to be less than like 450-500ish dollars for all of this stuff if possible.

The screen should last a good a few years with constant use before things like video game UI elements or the Windows bar might start appearing on the screen burned in. Consider a different motherboard. There's rarely a reason to buy an X670 or X870 motherboard. The B650/B850 is cheaper with fewer M.2 slots, the B650E also has fewer but also faster M.2 and PCIe so it has better upgrade potential down the road, and the X670E/X870E has all of the advantage of the B650E and X670. That motherboard in particular has poor power phases.

Nobody gave you good advice.
To control fan speed you have two options, DC and PWD. You want PWD because it has better control, however you need fans with 4 pins instead of 3.
You should enable whatever "smart control" you have in your motherboard on all fans. That's the chart thing. More temp more speed basically. You don't need to tweak that, just leave the defaults, they're good enough.
Having good fan control will optimize heat control, be more energy efficient, and reduce noise. Even if you don't care about that having high speed doesn't always translate to cooler temps. You should have smart control and PWD enabled.

and lumen is still technically rasterization, it just gets 90% of the visuals of RT without slicing your fps into 1/4 :)

The 3070 Ti was also the worst mainstream RTX 30 cards, but the 3070 Ti will be much better in practice because of DLSS if you try to use it in modern games. Avoid Radeon unless it's extremely cheap (and I can promise you it's not cheap enough)

I don't know what these guys are smoking but the choice is obvious, 6800XT with 16GB. You're not getting anywhere with those miserable 8GB. That's assuming you're only gaming. RT would be an advantage for the 3070Ti expect the lack of VRAM kills that advantage.

Getting an Unreal 5 game running on a 3070 Ti or 6800 will require settings optimization and upscaling. He's obviously a poorfag, He'll be grateful for DLSS even at 1080p

3060 is easily usable in Indiana Jones. Look it up
Also from a practical perspective the 3060 can run any modern Unreal game with half decent image quality. The 5700 XT absolutely cannot.

The last concern. Reconstruction quality is far above VRAM. For every game where textures will need to be adjusted (meaningfully) on the 3070 Ti, 10 will require 720p FSR on the 6800, which is far worse.

You're giving bad advice with the 3070Ti vs 6800XT. The 6800XT is superior in performance and VRAM. You don't need DLSS in 1440p and FSR3 is good enough if you need it. Besides, FSR4 will be released soon.
There's not much reason to pick the 3070Ti. Only if you really need CUDA for some reason and I do mean really really, not pretend you need.

What do you mean swapping? I don't use that site, do you mean it's saying the 9800X3D doesn't work on some motherboards? It's possible when you buy a Zen 5 CPU that older motherboards won't boot with that CPU until you upgrade their BIOS. Asrock Steel Legend motherboards are generally the most recommended if you can get them, because pretty much all of their models have proper power phases suited to Zen 4 and 5 CPUs so far. They do cost like twice as much as the mobo you picked out, though. Like most motherboards, Asrock boards will let you update your BIOS without a compatible CPU, you'll have to look up a guide on their site on how to do this if the motherboard comes out of the box with an old BIOS.

If you need that sort of stuff, and you don't want to experiment, Nvidia will work better. But let's face it, are most people going to use any of that? A lot of guys here don't even use Linux and AI in Windows is a joke so why even bother recommending based on that?
AMD works worse in Blender because HIP is a cross GPU translation library. It's not ROCm which is the equivalent to CUDA. Blender devs did that because HIP works better in Windows. ROCm doesn't work very well on Windows.

dp2.1 ultrashort cables are being introduced
if the new oled monitors come with a 100% ability to disable the pixel refresh forced shit and working firmware and dp2.1 full connections and avoiding everything dsc it would be good, or getting a tv if they have better firmware
might just go back to lcd slop even though the pq is worse, not that I care too much, a bright image and decent colors is more than you need for all the sloppy content on the web right now

I get your DP2.1 concern, but pixel refresh is completely manageable on my MSI QD-OLED monitor.
The monitor will automatically start the panel protect process when I set the monitor on standby and if it's past the 4 hour cleanup interval.
You're going to develop health issues if you continue to sit and stare at your PC monitor for 4 consecutive hours at a time, let alone 16 hours.
The cleanup notice pops up in the bottom right corner of the screen with the display companion app installed, it automatically closes if even if I don't select "cancel" or "later". Selecting "cancel" means the monitor will automatically start the panel protect when the monitor is on standby. "later" switches the cleanup notice to 16 hour intervals.
0 quirks, 0 bugs, it either informs every 4 hours (and auto cleanup on standby), or will force cleanup at the 16th hour.
I have the latest scalar firmware installed btw.

Right now I have an apc Back-UPS 1500. It's been solid, but they don't last forever.
wow I just saw I am juuuuuuuuuuuUUUUUUST BARELY under the max load. wow.
It's 865w max load.

replacement battery is just $100 direct from APC.
idk, they make pretty solid units, maybe get one of their fancy ones?

You have a lot of room if it's an 850W PSU.
Very few programs simultaneously run the CPU & GPU near maximum loads for a sustained period.
For modern 3D gaming, shader compilation is usually the most intensive load for the CPU, and it generally happens during game launch.
The GPU will be near maximum load in real-time game rendering.
9800X3D and a 5080. or even a 4090 works with an 850W PSU.

Power supplies have an efficiency curve. By regulation, the peak efficiency has to be at the 50% mark. So a 1000 watt PSU will waste the least amount of electricity at 500 watt loads. Wasted electricity directly turns into heat which will eventually break your PSU, so to get the longest lifespan out of a PSU, try to aim for around 50% of its rated load. As for the rest of your computer, unless you draw more than the PSU's max load, you won't break anything.

An 850W PSU with 85% efficiency (worst-case when minor rails are fully loaded) @ 800W means 140W is excess heat.
Less than 90W excess heat at 90% efficiency (more realistic since minor rails won't be at maximum load on gaming load).
Now name the use cases where a gaming PC will sustain that 890~940W load.
Even a 14900KS and a 5090 @ 600W won't reach that sustain load.

Why would I have to do that? It's a non-linear problem, the closer you get to the PSU's max load, the more the efficiency does in fact cause the heat to rise faster than the load. Aiming for around 50% PSU load does in fact maximize power for longest lifespan.

You don't advise people to pick a brand new PSU with the expectation to run it at 50% total load for the reasons I explained above, that is antiquated advice.
> Also if you buy a PSU expecting it to last a long time, you'd still run it at 50% load in order to maximize that.
The literal manufacturers of these high end PSUs guarantee you a replacement even if you run these units at 100% load 24/7 for their 10/12 year warranty.
And they make a profit running this business.
The name of the game is to own a good PSU and buy a new one after the warranty lapses.
This Pure Power 12 shows how inferior it is compared to the Super Flower XG, both 80+ Gold units with a $10 price difference currently.

I need to upgrade my entire pc. Is it worth it to get the 5070ti? I really hate the idea of paying for a mediocre GPU that can use AI to increase frames. Especially since the game in question has to support DLSS. Without that, it's just overpriced mediocrity.

Why wouldn't it be enough to do all that? It might be terrible value, but of course it'll be able to do that. I'd be more worried if you'll be able to buy one at all given how GPUs are typically sold out at launch nowadays.

A 850W Super Flower Leadex VII XG (80+ Gold $155) runs more efficiently past 500W than a 1000W 80+ Gold be Quiet Pure Power 12 ($145).
The 850W Leadex XG even has a wider 92-94% efficiency band than a 1000W.

I bought it at the end of last year and it started out great, it was doing everything I wanted perfectly but it started to degrade to the point of crashing out every game I tried to play, I spent a month trying everything I could but nothing worked so I assumed it was the card itself
Took it back and they tested it, confirmed it was

I picked that PSU as a comparable unit because of the $10 market price difference from the $155 Leadex XG 850W.

Lost what? You changed your argument. At first it was "just consume the new PSU" and "power efficiency isn't real". Now it's "don't aim for 50% on this one specific PSU" even though your graph doesn't really show that. You found one product that costs too much money because it didn't hit the sweet spot, btw. That 1000W PSU costs twice as much as a high end 850W PSU because it has to adhere to the 80 plus regulations.

then you start using it, you get a forced refresh
I know, first world problems, but why should anything be acceptable when you are paying 1k+

like I said it's not like you are sitting infront of it 16 hours straight, but the buggy firmwares not refreshing during off times or whatever and also the forced ones that could easily be avoidable, just refresh it when it turns off, even if it negatively effects the panel long term, whatever, I don't care
I'm guessing all qdoled monitors behave like this, not sure if asus has a forced 16 hour refresh if you ignore it all the way, or sony, asus is filled with firmware bugs too, this is insane for 1.5k+ monitors, anyway
