>How do I activate Windows?
github.com/massgravel/Microsoft-Activation-Scripts
HWID2 mimics a valid Windows installation to generate a permanent legitimate license on MS's activation servers
Usage: paste into Notepad, save as .ps1, run it
irm https://get.activated.win | iex

>and Office?
Same method, use Ohook
You can also use Office.com if your needs are very minimal
or try OnlyOffice/LibreOffice and set it to save in MSOffice file formats

I would attribute it to the fact that you can no longer post from phone if you dont want to sit like a little cuck for 15 minutes. so you can no longer post while on lunch break or driving in a bus or whatever
we have eliminated the phone poosters isnt this what you all wished for?

Anyone ran into this before?
I started booting a windows 10 IoT LTSC install on a separate (external) SSD for VR shit, since i failed to do my research and found the vive pro 2 doesn't have linux drivers. This install has whitelist-only based firewall rules, so nothing in or out except steam.
Very often, no matter what's going on (idle, gaming, watching a video), the keyboard input will suddenly freeze, and the keyboard itself becomes unresponsive. I'm forced to either wait indefinitely or unplug the keyboard.
This has only been an issue in windows 11, untested in w10 IoT LTSC.
Issue NEVER occurs in Linux. (Tested Fedora, Debian)

He mentioned he can't upgrade two of their computers because they don't meet TPM requirements. I told him I can get around it for them using this pic rel method. Will they have any noticeable errors or anything though you think?

actually completely disagree with this anon
once tried to onboard a normalfag friend to Win10 LTSC IoT and it went terribly
keep in mind that there's no video player/image viewer/Microsoft Store/video codecs installed out-of-the-box, and some drivers can be quirky
There's more I'm probably forgetting
I, like most non-subhumans, just find some fix by doing "windows 10 ltsc video codecs site:reddit.com" or similar and find some redditfag who's posted a powershell command you can copy+paste
but for normies it's instantly DoA if they have to grow a brain and critically analyze the problem
so basically, in place of all the slop they expect on Home OOTB, you'll be their personal tech support tasked with installing it
do not recommend...
nowadays I just advise normalfag friends to stick with standard 10/11 Home and that AI buttons and Recall and whatever other sludge are "ah that's just how computers are nowadays"

I currently have it on 0 + shutup10 recommended settings.

my personal preference is that I don't want my actual personal information be sent by Windows, anonymous info? sure, whatever, I use some slop apps anyway so it's not like I can do anything about it, but I appreciate to at least know that I have as much control as I can without losing my sanity going into the privacy rabbit hole.

In the end, you can't truly trust Windows even if you use all sorts of combinations, it's still corpo shit, if I were that into privacy I would've switched to Linux already. At least for me, this combo gives me enough peace of mind, but of course is always good to learn what other options are out there

Tried going with Linux on a new rig, could flash the usb stick fine and install Linux with it.

Had it up my ass with constant issues on Linux (also maybe some hardware is causing problems, which is harder to tell on Linux), so took the same USB stick, went to my old rig, used rufus to flash it with an ISO I downloaded, all recommended / normal settings.

I format / erase data from my boot SSD with some Bios tool, then went to boot up the stick. Stick is recognized, but on both partitions it says "The Boot Configuration Data for your PC is missing or contains errors.".

Did formating the stick several times fuck it up, or what's the deal? I can't get a new stick for another couple days to try it again.

I understand that you have startup issues on your Windows, I'm really sorry about that.
Anonymous 01/13/25(Mon)05:05:02 No.103876276
I'm a bit paranoid and usually run a quick scan after startup. I have a laptop that started to scan only 20k files instead of the usual 30k with the quick scan option after updating to 23H2. Didn't think much of it for a few weeks, but a few days ago, the same laptop wouldn't auto detect the most recent Firefox update and I had to manually install it.
Scans are clean and I didn't download anything sketchy or click e-mail links. DISM and sfc didn't detect any corrupted files, so I'm thinking it might be something messed up by one of the bigger windows updates.

Obviously I know that faggot
I use VLC and nomacs, and will probably switch VLC to MPV next time I bother to reinstall windows to match my Linux systems
but when I installed VLC+nomacs for them, they said they "didn't like how it looked" and "wanted the old ones back" so I had to find the commands to install the MS Store to restore the bloated and sluggish stock media players again
and no, you do in fact need to install the extra codecs if you want hardware decoding to be supported in browsers (at least in Firefox, presumably Edge and maybe Chrome), which is what 90% of what normalfags use computers for
my point is normalfags YEARN for the sludge, and any attempts to strip it out will get them asking you to immediately add it back in
some of these people told me they wanted me to uninstall ub0 I installed on their browser, because "they like the ads"
hence, "subhuman"

you need to install the virtio-win driver pack
surprised you managed to install Windows on qemu without it, considering the default thin-provisioned disk option needs the special drivers on Windows (you can get around it by using a "raw" disk though)
https://fedorapeople.org/groups/virt/virtio-win/direct-downloads/archive-virtio/?C=M;O=D
download the latest pack (currently virtio-win-0.1.266-1) and choose either ISO (pass-through as a disk to the VM) or exe/msi (for running natively inside the VM)
Anonymous 01/13/25(Mon)09:53:47 No.103878355
>>103878172
using a non-raw disc image format doesn't require guest drivers, that's something qemu handles on the host, the guest doesn't know or care about that. it's the virtual interface that matters, like if you're using virtio for the interface, which is ideal, you need to install a driver for that first since windows doesn't ship with virtio support ootb

as the other guy said, you download virtio-win.iso, attach that to the vm, and use the installer contained in it. it covers many qemu devices, including virtio storage
naturally you have to install windows with the disc set to something else, like sata, then switch it after the driver is installed. i haven't checked if there's an "f6" driver you can use to install windows directly to a virtio disc

the reason is that windows by default sets the RTC (the physical clock hardware in your computer) to local-adjusted time, like the time you see in your taskbar itself
on linux however, the convention is to store GMT time in the RTC, regardless of the timezone you use
this can be annoying with dual booting, since each OS may set the RTC differently each time they're used, or they might not and just assume the RTC is set one way, and display the wrong time, since the RTC has no way to communicate what timezone it's storing

as for solutions, you can can either set linux to store the time in the RTC as local time (supported), or you can set windows to store time in the RTC as GMT time (unsupported, but there's a registry key for it). basically, configure one OS so they both treat the RTC the same way, and you won't have an issue
Anonymous 01/13/25(Mon)10:16:23 No.103878538
>>103878371
>>103878501
and if you're wondering why the RTC (Real Time Clock) can't store the timezone, it's a legacy PC thing, not sure why UEFI didn't fix this, guess it's just another example of the industry not caring as long as windows is happy, who has two OS's installed on the same computer anyway?

Aside from the ports and being mostly plastic they don't really share much with pre-2010 laptops especially the aesthetics.

That and they're pretty much 15.6" or larger. The X220 was, to me, the last laptop I'd consider meeting the criteria I set out.

>wtf? this probably very rare and rich option
You're probably thinking of the same sort of LCD you'd find on a flat panel. Look at OP's image, that little bar in the middle between the hinges is technically an LCD ("segmented" LCD, where it doesn't drive pixels but pre-cut shapes) like the one you might find on "dumb" HVAC controllers or a digital watch among other things

you're able to load the drivers directly in the Windows Installer so you don't need to play hot-potato switching disk formats
there's a dedicated step for it, if memory serves there's some kind of a "load driver" button on the menu when you select which disk to use as the Windows install

yes, that is what i'm referring to as an "F6 driver", since that was a slang term for it in the XP days, owing to the fact you load them by hitting F6 when the installer says so

I want it to properly power off when I hit hibernate on the start menu. It currently turns back on when you press the keyboard/mouse (despite the latter being disabled in the wakeup-armed command in CMD)

I've enabled hibernation, I've disabled fast startup and hybrid sleep.

What the hell do I do?

disable sleep at all and just use hibernation without fast boot

If your PC is fairly modern, then it probably uses modern standby, which is the one that still keeps it running, and you can't customize it unless you use some hacky commands.

It also depends on your bios, some allows you to use the classic S3 sleep, but that depends on what your motherboard offers

I'm losing my fucking mind.
I'm trying to increase the size of the font for the menus in Windows file explorer, including the "save as" box and top tabs.
I've been troubleshooting with Claude for 3 hours.
I'm running Windows 10 LTSC via bootcamp on a 2015 macbook pro 15in with the AMD graphics card.
I tried the following: messing with regedit, trying to increase size of all text, trying different scaling than the bootcamp custom scaling, AMD control panel, all the different Windows control panels/settings menus.
This is what I get for buying this Macbook garbage for 150 bucks. I want to kill myself for being so fucking stupid. Fuck Apple Jeets for not fixing this in the BootCamp defaults.

Is there any kind anon who can tell me how to fix this. I tried my best. I'm an absolute retard, both for buying the old Macbook and running Windows; I know this.
Linux has too many driver issues with stuff like closing lid to sleep. I tried man distros already.

If some kind anon could spoonfeed me the solution to this issue, I would be eternally grateful. I never ask /g/ for tech support unless I have failed on my own. I have failed. Please, help me.

byte-for-byte copies like what dd does works for "hybrid" isos, like basically anything except windows isos
the issue is that cd's have their own extension for booting them, while hdd's have a different one, and in this context, "hdd" includes ssd's and flash drives, since they're all booted like a hdd is. basically, linux and most non-windows os iso's have both cd-style and hdd-style boot information in them, so they can be booted from a cd or a flash drive as-is. windows only has the cd boot information, so when attempting to boot it like a hdd, it won't work. that's where tools like rufus come in, they add hdd boot information to the flash drive
why microsoft doesn't make their isos hybrid i have no clue

I debloated a W10 ISO in 2021 and have been running that shit ever since, and I will continue to run it if W11 is as garbage as it appears to be.
The only question is if I should bother to learn the process of debloating W11, or if it's so completely unusable that I'll stick to W10 until W12 or until kingdom come.

What say you?

If you're looking for a Linux style package manager on Windows you will never find one. Every single component on a Linux system is a package right down to the very kernel itself and it is tightly integrated into the base system in a way that is impossible to remove. There is a central repository of signed packages that are compiled from source and packaged maintained all by the distro's own maintainers rather than the people who write the software themselves. Completely different philosophy, Windows just can't compete because even Winget/Scoop/Chocolatey are not integrated into the system the same way.

Not being able to save in the game means folder with saves is probably in read only mode.
You need to remove read only in properties of the save folder.

UWPs as a binary format aren't completely evil, anon. Though I would prefer if there was a more normal binary version of Windows Terminal anyway.
But if anyone wants an alternative Windows terminal there's always cmder, which can do command prompt and Powershell windows as well as having git-for-windows built into it if you get the full package.

He's right though. What is it about UWP that makes you so worried? If it's about it always running in the background, is that not what you want your Terminal to do anyway? By not posting an alternative you come off as someone overly concerned what a bunch of neckbeards in a friendly thread think of your preferred software, and it's quite unhelpful at the very least.

>>103924975
cmder is great
I was reading about someone who set up cygwin under mintty in cmder, but I don't really understand what you gain from that if you have the tools from the git install. Maybe I'm not ready for this knowledge yet, but if anyone can explain why someone might want this I'd be interested in knowing what it's used for.

Well for one it means you don't need to install Git system-wide to your PC I guess for people wanting to keep their Windows more lean while still working on Git projects. Also allowing you to clone Git code as well.

ents, is there any way to get past XP activation in the current year like with W7? Decided to check up on my boyhood Compaq to see if it still worked after almost a decade, got an XP Professional license but with no way to use it afaik assuming activation servers are killed by now.

About to start burning an SP3 iso unless I want to do it by USB with a custom image instead. This thing has the wrong CD installed, albeit a genuine copy.

I was using a laptop I forgot made huge noises like that, nearly had a heart attack doing this at the dead of night, I swear to fuck the chirping of the speaker was at 200% of what the max volume normally is. I actually got so annoyed with it that I opened it up and disconnected the speakers entirely from the board so I would never deal with it again. I use headphones anyway! (it ignored them)

God, I miss when laptops were designed with full servicability in mind. Honestly I was quite shocked to open this up and discover it uses two 512MB Samsung PC2 modules, so I could literally take my DDR2 modules from other laptops and put them in. The age of this system is clearly not as old as I thought. Gives me hope the HDD will be SATA and not IDE.

Actually screw that, the drive doesn't want to budge at all. I might have to take the loss.

Is it enough to just plug in a hard drive containing a Windows installation via USB and just manually copy over all the files to another disk and boot off that or do I need to use a proper cloning utility?

It does though, since I've done it many times and I also use the leenucks.
It was a pain back in the MBR days, but since uefi it's been straightforward. save the partition the esp partition and the destired windows partition, write both back to a new disk - make sure to set the esp partition as esp.
If you've got another disk with windows bootloader on it, you don't even need to bother with the esp partition.

You can use DISM to do it
>dism /online /export-driver /destination:x:\path\to\folder
You can also do this easily with an offline install via using HirenBootCD and just copying all the folders in the offline system's \system32\DriverStore\FileRepository folder.
