>How do I activate Windows?
github.com/massgravel/Microsoft-Activation-Scripts
HWID2 mimics a valid Windows installation to generate a permanent legitimate license on MS's activation servers
Usage: paste into Notepad, save as .ps1, run it
>and Office?
Same method, use Ohook
You can also use Office.com if your needs are very minimal
or try OnlyOffice/LibreOffice and set it to save in MSOffice file formats

Reminder to all anons that a combination of scoop+winget is the ultimate way to install programs on Windows in 2000+25
Use scoop to install CLI utilities, or programs that dont have any method of self-updating (ffmpeg, mpv, qbittorrent, yt-dlp, etc.)
Use winget to install bulkier programs, or programs that have their own auto-updaters (chrome, firefox, brave, signal, visual studio, etc.)

MS "force" average computer illiterate people to use MS accounts so basically everything you do on your computer is owned by them in some way and they have access to everything you do if they felt like it. This is why people in the know with how to access them use local accounts to use Windows, along with using the Enterprise/Education editions instead of Home/Pro.

Powershell suddenly isn't working for me. It'll open, but only for like 0.1 sec before it disappears. And Event Viewer won't open at all. And suddenly I've got the 'Activate Windows' watermark..
This is all on W10 Enterprise IoT LTSC. I'm 85% certain there's some major physical issue with my RAM, but I'm wondering what else might be causing these issues.. Please help a retard out.

It brought an easy to use graphical UI to the masses that was even easier to use/get around then Windows 3.1 because of needing no DOS knowledge at all to use it.

I thought you anons might know this:
Is there any native TLS client in Windows?
My uni started blocking inbound SSH to the datacenters, so I have a service running to wrap SSH-over-TLS
On MacOS/Linux/*BSD you can just use
All I'm looking for is an application like s_client/ncat/stunnel that allows wrapping arbitrary data in a layer of TLS transparently
I want to be able to give people a .ssh/config and have them be able to log into the server without convincing them to install a program
I'm not a big M$ guy, I thought PowerShell would have some way of accomplishing this but it doesn't seem like it
Any ideas on how I should go about it?

Only Home edition does not have "local domain join instead" feature. Pro edition can do it with basically installation method.
One big thing between Pro and Edu is group policy settings to disable telemetry. With Pro it's disable only visual but not really. O&O and other tweaks literally lies about this.

Education is pretty much exactly the same as Enterprise besides two vestigial features (to home users) missing. It was recommended more back in the day cause it was more of a hassle to get Enterprise-including ISOs easily, but now with how easy it is people just recommend Enterprise straight up now.

I think I'll just recommend that to Windows users to keep things simple, I was messing around with powershell $tcpClient but it proved to be more effort than it's worth

No, licenses only activate that specific edition. So the current Home key will not give you Enterprise for free.
You can change it to Enterprise and just activate it with MAS though.

Just open MAS and go to the "Change Windows Edition" section and choose to change to Enterprise.
Then after you've done that, just run the HWID activation and you're all done.
Also you don't need to save the command in the OP into a .ps1 file, just open an admin powershell window and paste the code in there.

"Solved" it on chromium by setting ANGLE backend to opengl, couldn't find anything of the sort in firefox. Went to about:support and found this, so I'm guessing that's the culprit. What the fuck do I install to enable hwdec?

The MS Store has a bunch of free codecs you can install which may help (AV1/MPEG-2/VP9) and a pay-to-use one that you can get for free from the massgrave index (HEVC)
If you don't have winget installed already then use winget-install to get it set up so you can download things from the MS Store and run appx/msix etc. packages.

Yep, that was it.
Didn't wanna use winget (I'm already using scoop which I find much better), so I just grabbed the installer bundle from https://codecguide.com/media_foundation_codecs.htm and added them with `Add-AppxPackage`.
Why the hell aren't they included with windows update is a mystery. Even more of a mystery is why doesn't firefox and other browsers just ship with their own codecs, media players have been doing that just fine for the past decade at least. This is the first time in 15-ish years I've had to mess with fucking codecs of all things.

The performance "uplift" was mainly for dual-CCD chips and because the original release of Windows 11 dropped performance by 5-15%.
They finally fixed their own code issue after 2 years and restored performance back to windows 10 level and yet somehow they spun it as a "performance gain".
In either case, the 9800x3d is a single ccd chip anyways so you'd be looking at 1-2% gain at best compared to Windows 10 LTSC 2021

Windows 12 is years away. MS are getting ready for every average consoomer to switch over to 11 when they kill GAC 10 in October this year.
Though the MAS team have figured out how to make the also coming extended security updates free as well, so for anyone that doesn't want to leave their GAC 10 system they can just use that method.

I can't say for sure, but iirc when Linus asked about why sleep states in Windows were confusing and restrictive, they actually replied saying that it's because of manufacturers being the ones that build their own implementations, which caused them to just stick with the modern and awful s0 mode and ditch s1-3 so they have more control over it, but s0 is still buggy as shit and they pretty much admitted they struggle with improving it. ARM of course has different power implementations so they don't have this problem there
Also, Windows is heavy as fuck, is natural that Linux just wakes up way faster than Windows because it doesn't want to send shit all the time, and it doesn't prevent you from using S3 if the bios allows it

the control programs for old x-ray machines in dentist's/doctor's offices and suchlike typically falls into this category, it needs to be networked to send/receive files from the machine
staying on win7 to play vidya gaymes is just retarded
though it doesn't matter much if you're a NEET who never leaves the house and doesn't have anyone else connecting to your network, hence "just hope an average /g/ user never connects to your network"

messages are encrypted at rest though, meaning all mail in your inbox is encrypted with your key, that itself is encrypted with your password
that's why they don't support imap/smtp and why searching in the web client is slow, as it has to decrypt the contents of each email on the client-side
the real issue is they can snoop on unencrypted inbound mail (so most mail you'll be receiving from companies and whatnot) and outbound (if you don't encrypt it)

I'm using W11 LTSC IoT with diagnostics and telemetry off and by inspecting packets over the course of months I've been using it I have not seen anything I'd call malware
it phones home for shit like ntp inb4 some smartass brings it up, not what I'm talking about
I have not seen it send out any PII or even metadata outside of connecting to the internet for hwid license check
at work we have w10 enterprise for personnel and ltsb for kiosks that wagies use to interact with the assembly line and nowhere in the license agreement I've seen would indicate MS has access to our stuff and trade secrets
for ltsb that only use active directory, office 365 on our work laptops is obviously different
am I missing something or does the enteprise stuff really not spy on you on OS level? I can't find any evidence to the contrary
I'm not a privacy schizo just curious if there's any merit in fearmongering outside of consumer trash like home and pro

You don't need W11 for 12th gen because the scheduler goes P core -> HT -> E core because E cores accessing L3 lowers the ring bus to like 3GHz on Alder Lake.
You need W11 for 13th gen because the ring bus slowdown was fixed and the most optimal scheduling for Raptor is P core -> E core -> HT which W10 doesn't do.
I saw lowered perf in games on 13900K when disabling e-cores. For gaming, I don't care about anything else.
I don't know about Arrow Lake because it's a piece of garbage and I went from 13900K to 9800X3D instead after a decade on Intel.

The whole point of the general saying to avoid Home/Pro consumer-grade editions and go for Enterprise/Education business-grade editions instead is exactly why. You tell it not to do things and it won't do them, unlike on Home/Pro where they kinda think about not doing it but'll probably do it anyway.

Besides, new games are mostly woke slop or gacha slop, so that's not much of a loss.

You'd still be able to use older emulators on older OS like 7/8 but any emulator that uses Qt6 as its UI toolkit (a couple of the current best ones) you can't use them. Retroarch probably still works though, that thing has versions that can run on Windows 98 of all things.

is it kaspersky? avg? avast? bitdefender?
also i'd rather not pay, so hopefully recommendations are on the free versions, woul'd appreciate

Not saying this happens a lot or all the time, but what if someone found out you got the license through MAS? I guess legal wise you'd be fucked, no? Guess the worst thing would be, you pay the price of the license? Or can you actually go to jail for this shit?

If someone feeds you to the lions then yes, you could receive a fine for it (only if Microsoft wants to sue you), but nobody actively hunts people for pirating Windows
i guess they are more concerned about enterprises that might pirate Windows (and even in that case, there are a lot)

To be fair, we can't truly know, because a lot of what Windows sends it's encrypted data, you just trust that they're being honest and ofc that is bs by a lot of people
When it comes to the differences between both LTSC versions, I think it's safe to assume they're sending the same stuff, there's no reason why Windows 10 should have any less telemetry if it's basically the same as 11.
In the end is somewhat safe to assume MS does respect the privacy of enterprises, because one single proof that they don't could ruin their reputation with big clients. Consoomers? sure, fuck' em, but MS relies mostly on the money from big corporations (Azure)

the tldr is that it does connect to a lot of shit, but most of the connections do explain their intentions for the most part, only two domains could be described as fishy because they don't disclose what they are used for.
I think would be a interesting project to compare the amount of telemetry you get with the many combos we recommend in this thread

I usually use Rescuezilla, a Linux live distro that has a lot of useful options for storage like imaging, cloning, recovery, etc. You can create images of your drives and also restore them, very customizable as well.
Another useful one is Macrium Reflect, one of the pastebins has a link to a free version, it's also recommended a lot here.
You can check either one, watch a few tutorials and you're good to go. And one tip is that you should disable Fast Boot because it tends to screw up the imaging process

It's Norton. Yeah. I tried installing Gigabyte control center because it said you can pick and choose what to install, instead it immediately started trying to install Norton. I killed that shit with Task Manager and uninstalled the Gigabyte stuff, but Norton is still in Add or Remove programs and nothing happens when I click uninstall. All the files are gone from Program Files and I even went into the registry and deleted anything with 'norton' in it or the name of the installer for it. But the "ghost program" is still in my Add or Remove programs. It's harmless but it pisses me off.

There's a bunch of registry tweaks you can make or you can use Winaero Tweaker to enable it in a click.

It could definitely be a setting. Check your system’s power options to ensure nothing like sleep mode or performance throttling is causing issues. Also, verify your drivers are all updated—use SDIO or something similar as suggested above if you haven’t already. If it’s app-specific, maybe reset the app’s settings or confirm compatibility with your OS/version.

why don't the start menu shortcuts persist after reboot on w11?
the jeets on MS forums are saying the usual sfc/ scannow and DISMexe but these aren't doing anything and i'm also on a fresh install.

My sister bought a new Asus laptop and wants me to "install Word". So I'll install my cracked version.
But I'd also like to debloat the laptop from Windows 11 and Asus crap. And also reduce/disable all the telemetry. Where to start? :)

You should just export the drivers from the install and re-install and activate a fresh 11 Enterprise install to it (then re-add the drivers in Device Manager.)

If you go with 11 LTSC you won't be too lost as it's very similar to 11 overall besides the slightly different UI and how the Settings app has been changed around. Shit like ShutUp10 still works with it so debotnetting is easy

Best bet is to just use MAS to change the install into an Enterprise one, use MAS again to re-activate it via HWID and use ShutUp10 to disable the telemetry and shit like that. No idea about removing Asus bloatware if that's a thing cause I've never used a fresh Asus PC.

You can trick your current install into believing it's already an IoT LTSC install and use an IoT LTSC ISO to repair upgrade it into a real IoT LTSC install.
>Download the IoT LTSC 2021 ISO
>Mount it and leave the explorer window open
>Run "reg add "HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion" /v EditionID /d IoTEnterpriseS /f" in an admin command prompt and close it
>Quickly run the setup.exe file at the root of the mounted ISO (skipping the update phase) until you reach the final part of it
>If it works, it'll say you have an IoT LTSC install and you can keep your files/apps

I don't think it's a power setting (sleep timer's already disabled), and I'm not sure what or which drivers or apps would possibly interfere with an OS setup. Part of me suspects it might be a registry setting. I used Privatezilla, is there a setting that I should make sure is enabled or disabled?

What? Back in the day you changed your system locale to Japanese (or used AppLocale) to make shit like Japanese doujin games and VNs etc. actually work properly because they expected a Japanese Windows environment to work properly.

only exposing a VPN to WAN is a good idea if you have a homelab

Probably character encoding and file paths being specific to Japanese Windows, so if not playing in that environment the text would be all garbled and it wouldn't know where to look for things, while also having a chance to just hard crash entirely. Change the locale to Japanese, it is now happy and will work properly.
IIRC when it comes to separators for file paths it actually uses a yen symbol instead of a forward slash.

you can whitelist cookies in this menu afaik
chrome://settings/content/siteData
this should be the option to delete everything but the whitelisted cookies but that doesnt work at all how I want it to because it doesnt delete the history at all. So im back to being in the edge botnet.
Firefox is my safe goonbrowser so I cant use that.

pretty sure in any chromium browser should have the "clear cookies & history" menu in settings, with "history" as one of the checkboxes, and "all time" as an option in the 'time' dropdown box
I clear my search history quite frequently and I did it a lot in UG (don't want some shit like my flat_chest breast_envy gelbooru queries popping up while someone from uni is shoulder surfing)
>Firefox is my safe goonbrowser so I cant use that.
Have you thought about just using multiple profiles? You can even make different shortcuts to directly open specific profiles for convenience
