Strictly speaking, watches are obslete tools like >>18363170 said.
Their only remaining function is looking good as jewelry so talking about functionality is pointless. A diver will use a computer like pic. A yatch owner won't have any use for a yatchmaster because he is not piloting his boat. The captain will have a gorillion sensor and screens to guide the yatch. Your phone is better at telling the time than a mechanical watch.

Because they typically sell direct to the customer, lots of micros are usually pretty good about letting you return a watch if you don't like it.

CH Ward is (or was in 2020, at least. I don't know about now).
>Ordered a Twelve
>It arrives, I notice that it's a complete piece of shit
>I ask to return it and they take it back, no questions asked.

That's probably the only thing the AliExpress watches do poorly, handle returns, but that's hardly worth the premium the micros charge.

The guy i was originally arguing with was saying the yatchmaster is a boating instrument so the target market is boat owners and this makes no sense because the yatchmaster is a shit boating tool no one actually uses for boats.
The only mechanical watch that makes sense to wear is the one that looks good or fits your made up taste in coolness of the engineering. Whatever was its original use as a tool doesn't matter.

C3 has a yellowish-greenish tint in daylight and glows a very bright green.
BGW9 looks white in daylight and glows blue.

BGW9 does not glow as brightly or as long as C3, but still does very, very well. It's more popular right now because blue lume feels more high-tech and premium.

No, you get a watch that's packed up and sealed. Oftentimes the display models don't even have movements in them, to discourage theft. They're just an empty case with a dial.

$2-7k feels like the cope zone for watches.

For a little more than that you can get an entry-level Rollie or a decent Omega. For less than that you can get something that is technically and mechanically just as good from a mass-market brand. Realistically, what does a $5500 watch get you? A Chinese movement and a logo on the face that nobody will recognize.

I wish the industry wasn't so anti-handwinding movements.
Those classic Carreras were pretty thin too because they were all manually wound.

Picrel was a watch that came out in the 1990s as a limited edition reproduction for some anniversary of the Carrera. 36mm across, 40mm lug to lug, and 13mm thick (though a lot that thickness was from the tall acrylic crystal.)

TAG has the resources to run two lines in parallel.

They can sell their modern mallslop to fat Americans who wouldn't know a tasteful watch if their lives depended on it.
Then they can have the 'vintage' line that's faithful to the old Jack Heuer designs.

Yeah I should clarify the reason why I didn't like the crown and buckle perlon is that the tail loop was fabric and it didn't have a second keeper like a nato would to loop under which usually I dislike, but for perlon being so thin the watch slides around on the strap too much when you take it off. With the keeper it's limited.

what I do with an adjustable strap is extend the keeper to the bottom side of the watch like on a regular nato. the downside is the strap's length shortens too much. and when removing the watch from the strap, the keeper near the buckle sometimes falls off. but it somehow works since I have a small wrist.

I'd pay 60 bucks to test that out rather than buy an actual penismoon or glassbox carrera and tire of it in a few days.

I never wear watches and don't know anything about fashion. Thinking about getting a WearOS smartwatch.

What are some style considerations for a dude with bitch wrists? I'm probably in the top 1% for men with skinniest wrists. I want it for practical reasons. How do I not look like a dork?

Smallest watch as possible? Leather band? Wide band or narrow? That sort of thing.

Diameter to hand width is a new one to me. The rule-of-thumb people must have pulled an all nighter coming up with that.

At the end of the day you just jave to try watches on to know. The way the watch actually feels to wear and looks when you have it on can be totally different to any preconceived notions you get from reading the dimensions. Like some people say 36mm is a womens watch size but there are some 36mm watches like the rolexes that have big round stout lugs that make them feel more substantial than the dimensions would imply, then there are watches like the 36mm Breitling Navitimer that are flat and dainty and have frilly looking bezels and are just obviously intended for a woman to wear them.

Generally, though, smaller is better. For thickness your goal is to get as close to or as far under 12mm as you can get, anything over 38mm diameter is too big for a watch that's time and date only, the sweet spot for a dive watch or chrono is about 40mm but you probably wouldn't want to go lower than 38mm because of legibility and you probably don't want to go much over 42mm because that's when watches start becoming comically big even if you're a big guy.

One idea is to take inspiration from mid 20th century dress watches, the watches you'd expect to see in Mad Men:
>thin
>dial diameter around 35 or 36 millimeters
>leather strap
Over the last couple decades, the preference for men's watches has been larger, so those postwar watches are now considered small. But they might look excellent on a small wrist.

Nice get, this.
It's like design, you can be measuring all you want but the best way is to test. I was trying on a mondaine one thinking it would be a good fit and it looked like absolute shit on my wrist.
The typical faux pas that the bumpkins do is getting these huge ass watches thinking it makes them look hard.
