A lot of this show is unrealistic. I don't consider woman strong or man superhumanly tough being something worth caring about in this setting. Just assume everyone is stronger and tougher there than are irl, because they fucking are. Everyone regularly takes hit that would put them in a coma or outright kill them, both men and women. The magical anomaly bullshit in s2 was necessary for their expansion of the story towards the broader universe. The problem was it felt too abrupt and we didn’t have time to resolve character arcs.
If the arcs got resolved on the road to that more magical state of affairs, people would have had less of a problem with it all.

He feels surperfluous because the writers were never interested in the PnZ conflicts on its own merits. His emotional arc is completed by making peace with Jinx, sure, but this is something done by a bunch of other characters.
