9800x3D is the *only* sensible CPU choice to use in a build. Games are becoming more CPU bound by the week.

"Oh I can upgrade later" - what's the point? Just buy a 9800x3D now, and you can choose whether or not to skip a generation in 2026/27. If you try to build a PC with a 7500f, 9700 or whatever, you'll be upgrading in a year;s time anyway.

For a client PC the only thing you really need to care about is the cell density. TLC should be preferred for a main drive for durability reasons as the the OS is constantly writing. DRAM is nice to have for performance but HMB is almost as good. The headline performance numbers don't generally apply to consumer applications but random read speed could be used as a tiebreaker.

Not that powerful. The B580 will have trouble running current games at full res 1080p without settings optimization and XeSS. Also the drivers are still a work in progress. On the bright side if you were OK with Radeon's drivers, Intel's aren't that far behind. But don't get me wrong, they're definitely behind.

I was watching Kingpin's latest video and he said something interesting. Asus wanted to hire him and he said no to them because they apparently made it very clear they wanted to brainrape him for all of EVGA's internal workings and business in NA. He said he went to MSI to see if they wanted to partner on a card but they said no they are very not interested in a Halo card. He said it'd be weird if MSI were gonna come out with a Lightning card but MSI are doing exactly that. I wonder why they turned him down, I'm willing to bet money that Nvidia has told the AIBs to stay away from him if they don't want to end up like EVGA. He more or less confirmed that his next card will be an AMD one with PNY.

If you saw some of Kingpin’s videos, he’s a high maintenance guy.
He was asking for video card engineers that was solely dedicated to Kingpin projects.
ASUS doesn’t need him and MSI doesn’t do luxury hires.
XOC video card segment isn’t large enough to invest in Kingpin projects.
Those cards are high margin, but manufacturers don’t want to risk unsold, expensive cards so they usually pump out the MOQ.

it's actually better to get a 4060 because unlike 3060 12gb -> 4060 8gb, the 4060 was as strong as a 3060 TI which is HUGE when the 4060 costs the same as a 3060 (the 3060 was discounted down to $250 however).
the 5060 is expected to be 5-8% faster than a 4060 (mainly because it uses almost the exact same silicon), unlike the 20% boost from the 3060 to the 4060.
In canada, I found someone selling their 3070 for $200 on facebook marketplace, that's not a "amazing" deal (it's actually amazing if you consider the CAD conversion), but it's sufficiently decent if you aren't getting scammed.

also upscaling or even 60fps conversions in my opinion have never really surprised me or made me feel like it's better than the original. At most I think color correction or denoising can make a huge difference, dunno if there is an AI that helps with that, but you can absolutely use video editing software with your 1070.

What temps are "good" for the 5700x3d? Mine idles at 39C, but when I started Cinebench (all cores) on this thing it hit 75C pretty fast, visibly hit a plateau after that and almost touched 80C after a while of running.
I haven't really touched any settings in the BIOS except for setting an XMP profile to get the RAM running as it should.

Here are my goals.

Install one OS for private/personal/business use for "trusted" processing.

Install another OS for gaming with botnet anti-cheat shit and kernel fuckery

I want Setup 2 to not be able to override firmware/etc and just be a fucking slave. I want my mice/keyboards/etc to feed into it, not be "managed" and have the secondary OS install shit onto them, same with my motherboard, I want the second OS (Windows 11) to NEVER touch any firmware and just isolate its updates to its own SSD used for booting that OS.

Can this be done or do I need a second PC to separate things?

I tweaked my fans (I was lazy with them since the 3700x didn't need much air flow) and that plus a -10 offset in pbo2 tuner held the 5700X3D between 70 - 75C for the entire all core test in Cinebench.
Considering that this is pretty much the worst case scenario workload wise and it's probably not gonna hit those numbers when gaming, I'm pretty happy with it. I don't know why it got a lower score than the non 3D version though, I guess Cinebench likes higher clocks more than cache?

I heard that -30 offset downwards is silicone lottery territory, so I'll tweak it down to -20 and see what happens. Maybe I can still shave some extra Cs off of this thing.

I use a floor fan to keep my rectangular room cool. When I was slumming it with a poor setup I just removed the side panel to let it blow in. Getting rid of the case really is the best thermals ever, the only worry is making sure nothing knocks a heavy GPU by accident.

I want a 34" 3440x1440 monitor, but many seem to rely on stuff like compression or chroma subsampling. This effectively makes the screen just 1720x720 resolution and not 3440x1440.

Are there any lists of monitors that actually meet their specs? With proper connectivity allowing for uncompressed 4:4:4 inputs at their stated refresh rates?

I don’t know how long you plan to keep that motherboard, but it has a PCIe Gen 4 x16 lane.
