I found a really good SSD for my laptop, but it's PCIe 4.0.
I don't think my laptop supports PCIe 4.0, but I've read that PCIe is both forward and backwards compatible, so it should work just fine.
However, I've heard that PCIe 4.0 gets pretty hot and draws much more wattage, so my question is, if I plug it into a PCIe 3.0 slot, will the temperatures and power draw be about the same as a PCIe 3.0 SSD, and if not, is that a concern for a laptop that seems to already somewhat struggle with the fans?

I can use jdownloader to mass-download images in 4chan threads archived on archived.moe
But when I try to download images in search results on archived.moe that way, EX: https://archived.moe/b/search/text/Ice%20cream/filter/text/order/asc/ , jdownloader can't pull any of the images
Is there a workaround here? I'm sure gallery-dl or wget can do it or whatever but i'm stupid and can't into command line tools

Is it plausible that my home theater A/V receiver got damaged or something during moving? It doesn't sound as good now.
Long story: I moved a while back and packed up my AVR and speakers. In my old place, everything sounded great. Now, everything sounds a bit hollow and tinny. No amount of adjusting the settings on the receiver or the speaker placement seems to offer any improvement. I'm wondering if somehow the move damaged the receiver or the speakers or unplugging/plugging everything or who knows... Or maybe it's just the room (hardwood versus carpeted) and nothing I do will help? I don't want to buy a new receiver and/or speakers and not get any improvement.
When I plug my headphones into the port on the front of the AVR, it sounds great.

Actually, they might all be fucked. I had to set the multimeter to like 20 or 200M to get a reading. Granted... I was just touching the prongs into the the little wire inlets at the back, I didn't take the speakers apart, but still...
For comparison, I tested my headphones and I'm getting 35 ohms, which I guess is normal idk

Yeah for a continuity check you need to actually take the speakers apart and touch the ends of the big speaker coils, the parts connected to the cone.

Well yeah because the speaker boxes contain a circuit to distribute sounds to the actual cone thingy that'll emit those frequencies the best, and if anything is going to get damaged in moving it's that thin magnet wire on the one moving part. Headphones can be simpler.
I'm telling you all this so you can just buy a single replacement for the one cone thing that's bad, not all your speakers.

Most PC parts use ROMs, which means you'd have to replace the ROM chip itself, which is an arduous task and also makes it very noticeable when things aren't working right. You cooould also hack malware into the MBR/GPT of a harddrive/SSD, but this could easily be wiped and isn't really a concern.
As far as I know, no BIOS/UEFI malware exists that could be burned in, except government shit.
TL;DR: Very possible, but too inconvenient for most to care.

Is it possible to use a tool like cheat engine with an android emulator like bluestacks to log into your McDonalds app or any app that has a rewards points system, detect the value that is your points, and add more points for infinite free food? It would be nice to add 5000 like once or twice a week for a free Quarter Pounder, and in the Starbucks app add 200 for free iced coffee.

Is the burn in real? it will be used for light gaming and youtube/movies, I don't really game a lot unless it's the weekend and even then it's only 3 or 4 hours a day.
Should I worry? has burn in preventive measures improved? should I pull the trigger or get a regular QLED panel or something?

Depends anon. I wouldnt buy one. An OLED by nature starts to degrades the second that you turn it on. TVs are better than monitors in that regard but, if you watch a lot of things that arent the aspect ratio of the TV you will get some uneven wear and static UI elements will find their way onto the screen if you only play one or two games. Burn in is going to happen no matter what. It just depends if you're the kind of person who is ok with replacing expensive purchases or if you buy something, you want it to work until it cant be repaired anymore. An OLED WILL burn in. Its just a matter of not pulling the short straw and how much youre willing to accept until you find that it becomes unbearable to look at. As always, check reviews, forums for problems, etc so you dont piss away a grand 8 seconds after your warranty runs out.

USB 3.0 = 5000Mbit/s? Having USB 3.0 as the host interface doesn't mean the rest of the parts can max it out.
Also if you ever try Linux (with a beefy PC) it's even crazier -> Linux (the kernel) will instantly tell your file manager "it's done" even if writing took place for the next week. It simply buffered everything to the massive RAM and told the program - the thing that displays the progress - to bugger off.

Thoughts on Prebuilt vs. Self-build in current year?
I want/need a new computer. In my Western European location you could have saved between 15-30% (depending the on parts/brands) when you build your own PC (new parts only), this was 10 years ago. But for some time now it seems to be cheaper to just buy a prebuilt than building a new computer from scratch + maybe the costs for an OS.

This is some kind of fucking psyop too. 'blob' in the systems context used to mean proprietary binaries which execute in kernel space. Like nVidia GPU or lots of network accelerator drivers. At some point in the 2010s every piece of black box data became a 'blob' and every idiot coming out of university knows the term.

Ironically you need to have a lot of experience with self-built PCs to make good value decisions about pre-built. There are periods where they're actually a good value, but they're fleeting, and a lot of ostensibly credible mfgs put out total shit. Check GamersNexus reviews on retail PCs to see what I mean.

it's an 8-character-wide tab
i dont have this problem in regular vim, but im trying to learn nvim with kickstart and it's like this just with the default settings
im guessing it has something to do with lsp or treesitter, but when i use :Lazy to look at the plugins and search ocaml or .ml i see nothing
i know i could try to set indents the normal vim way but im trying to learn the nvim and lsp way of doing things, so this default behavior is really offputting

The sponsored links ARE ads - they even have ad labels on them.
You can override them though in the ublock origin logger and toggling the DOM inspector in the middle right (by the refresh button), then going and disabling the red rule [data-layout="ad"] on the sponsored element. The save rule will add a new rule in "My filters"

Approximately 12-15 hours ago, my ThinkPad docking station worked fine. I had a USB-A mouse connected, and two DisplayPort (to DVI) connected computer screens, and one HDMI connection (going to the docking station, rather than the laptop itself).
Now, none of the video outputs from the docking station seem to work. It can't be the video cables, because when I connect the HDMI directly to the laptop, it works. Can't test the DP(->DVI) adapters, because the laptop doesn't have DP output.
The next logical step would be to assume the docking station stopped working, or the USB-C cable connecting the two is not working. But when I press the docking station's power button, the laptop goes to sleep (or turns off, don't know, the docking station doesn't provide power). And the USB-A connected mouse works when the USB-C to USB-C cable is connects the docking station to the laptop.
So what gives?
What should I look at?
Is there somethin that I'm overlooking?
Can it be a problem with the display adapter in the laptop's OS (using Windows 11)?
Note that it's a company laptop, so I don't have admin rights.

Does this only affect filtering, or does 4chanx make other changes to the supported altchans as well?

Betcha it does. It's just so much easier (for the app maker) that way, as it also means people can share the same data between several devices and offer services like "I can look that up for you if you know your phone number".
You're up against the basic problem that most non-game phone apps are just dumb wrappers for web pages.

Better arch means higher IPC, for example a CPU with an IPC of 2 at 4Ghz is faster than a CPU with an IPC 1.5 at 5Ghz.
This is in layman terms because instruction set, pipelining and speculative execution throws all the metrics out of the window and in short, it depends.

boards.4chan.org##.thread:has(> .opContainer .postMessage:has-text(/\bAI\.?\b/i))
Add :style(background:red;) to make it highlight.

yea, unfortunately de-humidification is performed by cooling the air to cause water to condense out, this means it has to be some kind of refrigerator, and there's basically two kinds, peltier, which are small, silent, and cheap, but very power inefficient. you tend to find them in cheap/small devices where the other kind isn't suited. the other kind being a compressor, like a fridge or air conditioner, they're larger, noisier, and more expensive, but efficient and powerful. no middle ground i'm afraid

OR use your 1234-abcd.dhcp.shit-isp.in that comes with your subscription. (I'm assuming every ISP in the world has names for their customers)
OR if your intent is to just find your home PC case the IP changes a lot: run an IRC bot that joins a channel of your choosing and look up the user info. What is your intent btw?

Usually people get stupid ass "dynamic names" from no-ip.com or similar. Or if you want to consoom with money you could buy an actual personal domain name.
>>103968178
Highly OS and software specific.
>>103993212
Maybe he wanted an actual global hostname, not just "trying to connect with a name", to test out vhosts or something.

Anon, I'm running http server locally, as in only within my private IP range, which I use to access files, and check status.
On the machine, I'd use localhost.
But from another machine, I'd use the server IP address.
I want a way to type in a name, instead of the IP address.

You clearly don't know what hosts file is or what it does. You specifically do the entry on the connecting machine so your web browser sends the "openmediavault" name along with the HTTP request.
Your Open Media Vault is running a HTTP server *and* it's doing "virtual hosts" of which the openmediavault leads to a specific service. (software called Privoxy does this too)

Basically i have a web page that I access it by typing the IP address, http://192.168.0.1
But I want to do so with name instead of IP address, and without configuring client host file.
So I can go to any device on the network, and type http://mywebpage.local and have it be opened.

Anons help, how do I force iOS to clean temporary files that were left after the file conversion was interrupted?
I had about 5GB of free space on the iPhone and wanted to send a bunch of media files to another person via Whatsapp, I chose share/send via the Photos app and left the phone when it went into "preparing" mode which I assume is converting source files to lower quality or whatever.
Came back with none of the files being sent and phone just sitting there, looking at the storage info it seems like I ran out of space but how the hell do I recover the 5GB back from this failed conversion process?
Restarting iPhone does nothing and I can't see those temporary files anywhere in the Storage info screen. Just see that my Photos folder got a +5GB size increase and that's it.
How to get rid of those temp files?

So you do want the name just for the lulz? That's fine.
>.local
.local implies 'multicast DNS', you could go that route.
Another possible way is adding a custom DNS record to your router or whoever's doing the DNS serving for you. This record could be anything, it doesn't have to follow the '.local' rule.
I'd stick to the IP and set the IP manually, outside the DHCP of the (chinkshit) router. Statically configured IP is the king on local nets.

Unironically there is no way unless you decompile all the files yourself and look through the source code. Malware can bypass antiviruses.
You just have to trust that the group that cracked the game did not put any backdoors/malware, that the guy who reuploaded the ISO did not put any malware of his own, that repacker did not put any malware of his own etc.

Pausing the video usually works to fix it
If not, exiting fullscreen, and then entering it again works
Happens after 3 minutes of video playback. Or longer. Or shorter.

Tested auto rotation vs not, doesn't seem to have an effect
Ideas on troubleshooting?

>if you are used to
I'm not really used to anything with regard to coding. I'm still a total beginner, so starting on linux is no different than starting on windows to me. I have minimal experience from years ago with windows, that's all. I am not experienced enough to even know the difference. Regardless, I'm fully committed to Linux.

Well, then if you just want an IDE experience, Jetbrains products are probably your best bet.

CLion is the other big C++ ide. Text editors are popular too though, VS code being a popular gui-based one (as opposed to CLI-based ones like vim/neovim/nano/emacs/etc). You can compile manually with the already installed gcc/g++ or with a build system like make or cmake. There's a cmake extension for VS code that gives you a pseudo-ide experience with build buttons and the like if you want.

For some reason, I suddenly can't quick reply on 4chan unless I'm using 4chanX. What the fuck. Javascript is definitely allowed too. I'm using librewolf if that matters. How do I fix this?

Even if you press del/F10/whatever? The logo means BIOS did fire up.

An IDE? (Integrated Development Environment)
>I assume what I am looking for a "compiler"?
Well, a compiler is part of a full suite. You need at least a text editor - like Vim - and a compiler.
>>104001434
They are called IDEs, guess you want one. idk shit about programming so idk what's go-to for Linux.
Case you are doing a Hello World you don't need a full blown IDE -> write helloworld.c and coompile it to a binary.

So on Steam, there's this multiplayer game I don't want any of my main account's friends to know I tried. Should I be able to just make another account and like send that account it as a gift, even if the new account isn't "friends" with my main account? And if I do that can I install the game on the same computer under the same local user and not get banned or something?

But it just stays there at the logo screen. Even if I press F2 or del to enter the bios or F8 to enter the boot menu, It doesn't go to the settings screen or the boot menu.
I've just read that it could be a problem with the ram sticks, so I'm going to try booting up with each of them individually now.

I torrented a cracked version of Photoshop but whenever I try to use it Adobe locks the program and tells me they're sending me to jail unless I buy a genuine product. Why is this happening?

Try blocking it from connecting to the internet with your firewall and see what it does. That or the crack was shit.
