If there's any kilopos owners/canjam regulars/oldfags reading the thread I'd like your thoughts.
I have the opportunity to jump the queue on the storm but the price I was quoted caught me a lil off guard, can't reveal the exact amt but it's approx 2.5x what I paid for the annihilator.
Tbh the price hike for the relaunch ed does feel mega scummy but I don't foresee another summit-fi dethroning the storm anytime soon.
>inb4 audition it more
I've prob logged >2 hours on the storm demo, now my conundrum isn't regarding its sound quality, but rather I should even be entertaining the price hike. The replies I got irl said im insane but I don't think I've lost the plot (relatively).

Sounds good to me, idk why. When I had the B2 and Hexa I found both very boring and lacking in bass, with these I think the bass is perfectly alright.

Sorry not the person you're looking for but
Do not support shady practices like this, it's the same kind of thing that allows KZ to re-tune their IEMs once they're well regarded and shilled. If they raise the price of a exorbitantly priced pos as soon as it gets hype that means they're not a company you want to deal with, let alone support financially (the STORM does not cost 8k USD to make).

the the noise cancelling is passable, but the transparency mode is really good (at least for me). comfy too and has great battery life.

Depends on if you subscribe to the association model from Theile. If yes, then no, if not, then who knows.
In my experience, it's a bit more accurate but drops off very quickly the higher in frequency you go.

Sony/Tanchjim anon here, or at this point formerly known as Sony anon. I traded my ier-z1r. I got the unique melody mest mk2 during black friday and with my other IEMs the ier-z1r just wasn't going to get used. The IER-z1r is great sounding IEM but that other anon was right. The scooped mids and finnicky treble just made me not reach for it. Especially when I find the monarch mk3 has comparable bass with SIGNIFICANTLY better mid-range.
I traded it for a pair of the MDR-z1r. I was only open to this trade as I was turned off from headphones after finding the 6xx woefully boring. So, if these didn't wow me, then I'll just know headphones truly aren't for me (spoiler these were amazing, but I sold them). My biggest issues were
1. With the entire rest of my collection being IEMs I would need to go out of my way to use them.
2. I realized fundamentally I like the reproduction of music from IEMs SIGNIFICANTLY more than headphones. headphones feel like a half step to just using my home theater.
3. IEMs I can take when im commuting, traveling, in bed etc. The MDR-z1r is very comfortable but confined to my desk.
At this point I think my collection is finished. The only thing is maybe getting a bluetooth dac with 4.4mm balanced.
Current IEMs:
Sony-M9, Unique Melody Mest mk2, Thieaudio monarch mk3, Tanchjim Origin.
Current Gear:
Hiby w3, Ibasso dx-180

I did try the mk2 but didn't like it as much as the mk3. The mk2 does have better mid range than the mk3, but the staging is worse and the bass is very subbass focused. The monarch mk3 is my "bassy" iem of my collection as I want each of my iems to do something bit different. the mk2 was against my m9 as an all arounder. But the m9 is more comfortable, plays better with more genres and the timbre on it is just divine. It might be some rose tinted glasses as it was the first expensive IEM I heard, but its still one of my favorites.

Rec me some IEMs. I have a cheap pair of Salnotes, want to get something in the range of 100-120 eurorupees. I listen to jazz and classical most of the time so I guess I'm looking for something neutral, with not much bass. I checked the OP but I have no idea what to go for.

Building on this, the z1r has a really wonky midrange that is super scooped. It truthfully doesn't sound bad, but it lacks weight and I personally wasn't a fan. Timbre and imaging are some of the most important factors for me with IEMs (as I daily drove the tanchjim oxygen/darling stuff for years). The z1r has a great soundstage, but the scooped mids were a turn off. It also fit me decently but because of how heavy and awkward they can be it often wasn't picked for business trips.

I stumbled upon my post from after I received the Hexa and compared them to Zero2:
>they do sound very differently. The Zeros still have more mid-bass/low-mids, they sound fuller/could also say muddier, the Hexa is a bit limp in comparison, could also say more clarity.
Turns out I was using them on my mainboard w/o a dongle. You should have told me earlier that this is going to be a problem. I can only imagine how many who have bought them tried them like this and didn't like it.

yeah.
aoshida e20 gives a taste of good U-shape tuning. better drivers than truthear zero series and doesn't have some of their cons (terrible shell ergonomics, middling technicalities)
epz k5 is rather unconventional / non-"meta," tuned, but is musical and versatile with a brighter tilt. kinda long nozzle, but the shell is compact which means basically anyone can get good seal, it just might stick out a bit
truthear nova i personally do not like. it aims for Harman2019v2 in-ear target (not my preference), but a decent chunk of people think it sounds fine. i also don't like the shell ergonomics or the stock included cable. i set my gripes / biases aside and rec it because it still sounds competent overall, is generally well-liked, and not too heavy with bass which you requested. fyi it goes sub-$100 during big sales
e20 is the best bang for buck, also includes the best cable and usable case despite being the cheapest option i rec'd

the simgot tuning kit's filters at 4.8mm are really close to ideal. i only applied a 300 mesh over the stock metal grille to dampen the upper mids a bit, so i can't tell you how the nozzle looks when the metal grille is removed (which you'll have to do for the replacement)

if we're gonna avoid audiofoolery like talking about the ductility of the drivers and how sonion est have a superior delicacy and articulation of upper treble details, it more or less boils down to frequency response coverage / linearity. BA are a bit peakier, and solutions to push their response >15kHz usually equates to large peak (ie 64a tia, other kilopos "hyper tweeters" like how symphonium are tuned). the microplanars seem to be iterating in a good direction where the manufacturers can tune them to extend out further within the bounds of their mechanical design. shiieeeet pos been using Knowles SFWK / 33518 for many years, bout time for new tweeter tech. i've heard several sonion E50 BA tweeters, it's hit or miss. not a standout product like their 2300 mids or EST drivers (even with their flaws, ESTs sound good). i welcome a cheaper, good alternative

Did Fiio use same fucking frequencies or device IDs or something? How the fuck I could connect to a neighbor and there's totally the possibility of my neighbor's connecting to me.

It doesn't matter whether they "can" or not. If there is a hack to connect a DAC to type c like some phone manufacturers do then they can, it will not work over extension cables and hubs because it's not standard USB, it's a hack. If there is no such hack then they can't.

I bought a hiby r3 a few years ago and found out it has a limit of 20,000 tracks. I found a trick where you can modify the software bin files to accept more but it got laggy as cocks having close to 40k tracks. Also pretty unstable with crashes.
How is the sony nw-a306? Or what others would be good? Ideally around the same stats as the hiby r3

In all honesty, what did the owner expect being such a gross pig? The nozzle is absolutely encrusted in earwax, which would happen regardless of the IEM. Imagine buying a pair of cheap pants and taking a shit while wearing them, and posting their photos online as demonstration of their poor quality.

The engraving part infuriates me even more than the rest of this nonsense.
What's the point of this "hand crafted" bullshit when it's just one design/picture anyway?
I'd understand custom engravings like Moondropped did in the past.
I'd understand simple little things random pieces of glitter suspended in resin or whatever the fuck Mangird/XENNS does with their faceplates so that each of them are unique.
I'd understand random freehand patterns in similar style.
But bragging about "hand crafted" non-custom engravings with that price tag is so retarded.
