I would guess that the note you're smelling might be the cypress. Hinoki by Comme des Garcons. Perhaps also Liquidnight by A Lab on Fire. The last one has more citrus and fizz. I tried to find something with aldehydes, but I couldn't find it. But perhaps you can sample these two and see.

I've tried an early 2000s vintage and it's still pretty close to what you can get today in terms of fragrance.

the season could very well be a factor. wore it in summer and sold it: for me it had noticeable castoreum, but it not in a dirty way, it really supported the fragrance. the most outstanding part to me was probably carnation, I get the same note from bel ami. could not smell the soap or leather at all, but keep in mind that I'm a noselet

got YSL pour Homme and YSL Rive Gauche (the women's version I guess, blue cap) today. Pour Homme is a nice and strong lemon, didn't expect that. Will probably compare it to other lemon frags. Rive Gauche probably was so old already that it lost it's power, smelled just like some nice liquor to me, in the middle it got more powdery and female. Will report back after wearing them.
