It’s far from old-mannish. I bought it seven years ago when I first started in biglaw, and it became my go-to office fragrance until I started exploring more niche options. Even now, I feel it’s the most appropriate fragrance I own and one I’d confidently wear in front of the global managing partner. I’d even choose it over safer, more common options like Prada L’Homme, Terre d’Hermès, or Aventus

32 male looking for some recommendations. Just started getting interested in fragrances. Always used cheap colognes you buy at the men's section of a store that all smelled the same or just bland.
Looking for some must haves, some for casual wear, and some that can survive Central Texas humidity is a plus but not necessary. Price range 50-150ish. Im still learning the type of scents so I cant give an exact type im looking for.

Dior Homme (2020 version) and Dior Homme Sport are good entry-level designer scents that you can find and try at most stores (e.g. Sephora). You'll smell nice without coming off like an obvious "cologne guy" as you would with lines like Eros, Le Male, Sauvage, etc.

I just tested this the other day for the first time. No idea which version it was, as I heard it shifted a few times as the bottles changed.

It definitely lives up to the hype of being a weird fragrance, but it’s not exactly something I’d want to wear daily, or even rarely desu.

It’s not spot on for the smell/taste of blood, but it is distinctly metallic. The mint is also very… nonstandard. I can get the toothpaste associations as well.

It’s not bad it’s just very weird and not particularly enjoyable.

Hinoki Oak
I got this candle today and I'm obsessed with the scent, but I have no idea what it is I'm actually smelling.

It's bright, sweet, and effervescent - like a freshly opened can of Dr. Pepper, it's incredible.

Does anyone know what sort of ingredient is behind this note? The tag lists "hinoki cypress, white oak, and sacred santal" but I have no idea which of those is actually doing the heavy lifting here.

Are there any fragrances that best replicate this fizzy, woody scent?

I would guess that the note you're smelling might be the cypress. Hinoki by Comme des Garcons. Perhaps also Liquidnight by A Lab on Fire. The last one has more citrus and fizz. I tried to find something with aldehydes, but I couldn't find it. But perhaps you can sample these two and see.

It doesn't, really. They're both that 80s style masculine but that's where it stops. If anything smells like NYI, it's Creed Bois du Portugal.

NYI is spicier in the beginning and greener/mossier at the end. L3H is creamier and softer overall. L3H is kind of a rougher version of Chanel's Pour Monsieur than anything.

I guess I don't know what amber smells like because this smells like cypress and incense to me. It's nice and soft, though. A great winter fragrance. Whoever said it doesn't last, though, I don't know what your skin is like, because it lasted for hours on me.

>Caron Pour un Homme le Matin
It doesn't smells anything like classic Pour un Homme. It's more like a run-of-the-mill 2020s woody aromatic men's fragrance with a nice lavender note. That said, it's really well done. It smells clean and natural, not like shower gel. I find it easier to wear than Aventus or Sauvage.

i tried all 3 last week and i only really enjoyed LADAS and would really only see myself wearing this one.
Lonestar was strong leather and animalic. i can't quite describe Sundowner, but i recall smelling harsh and spicy, but not very pleasant to me. LADAS was a fresh and clean perfume and would be really wearable

how's the performance on this one? i have Cuir Ottoman and Ambre Russe and really like them. wouldn't mind getting a warm weather perfume from that house

It's still good. It's very herbal and soapy with a very clean leathery character. (It's not a leather fragrance, but it still smells like a high quality leather coat)

I've tried an early 2000s vintage and it's still pretty close to what you can get today in terms of fragrance.
Performance is still very good. When I wear it, I never do more than two sprays and people can detect it on me 10 hours later.

It works well in all seasons bar the hottest, most humid days and different seasons bring out different facets of the composition.

It's not particularly animalic and it never actually has been, despite all the OMG CASTOREUM BOMB! meme'ing. Chanel back then would not have put out something that wasn't sophisticated. It's very smooth and very luxurious.

the season could very well be a factor. wore it in summer and sold it: for me it had noticeable castoreum, but it not in a dirty way, it really supported the fragrance. the most outstanding part to me was probably carnation, I get the same note from bel ami. could not smell the soap or leather at all, but keep in mind that I'm a noselet

got YSL pour Homme and YSL Rive Gauche (the women's version I guess, blue cap) today. Pour Homme is a nice and strong lemon, didn't expect that. Will probably compare it to other lemon frags. Rive Gauche probably was so old already that it lost it's power, smelled just like some nice liquor to me, in the middle it got more powdery and female. Will report back after wearing them.

any strong fragrances that would help me stick out in a densely crowded area, going to dick around this summer again and want to smell good. last year i brought no fragrance at all and it worked out just fine but would prefer to have some this time because i get sweaty from extacy.
ex: a house party?

oh and no $200 designer fragrances because i don't believe in those

Rochas femme and Estee Lauder youth dew have no resemblance to the notes you listed but are famously woody-cola, they're probably more sweet and heavy than you're looking for but common enough in department stores to warrant a try.

gotta love how dudes flaunt their wealth here but instead of being a bro and pasting 500 words they talk shit and post about the same 12 fragrances every day.

nah just smells mainly like rose. rose and a little bit of clean leather or suede if you sniff hard enough. maybe it was considered a "macho powerhouse" in the 80s but it just smells like a woman's perfume to me. if no one ever heard any hype and memes about it, everyone under 30 would just think it was for women.

the way i interpret that phrase is that there are types of perfumes (chypre, fougere, etc.) and sometimes people play with the structure and have different taeks on it. this is an older perfume so it has a classic definition. dont read into it too much
