what kind of ratio? did you just press it straight away?
ive had plenty of good cups with larger doses but i usually use a coarser grind, lower temperature, and let it sit for a bit. i dont even invert it half the time. if you just set the plunger, it will mostly prevent the water from flowing through the grounds. sometimes i use a really short ratio, too, like 1:4. all depends on the coffee.

nice dubs
i have a bunch of different coffees rn, mostly just because i roast it myself so i buy lots of different greens because they keep well but also because i was gifted a lot of nice coffee over the holiday and purchased a decent amount in japan when i was there last month
will probably start with a moka brew of this light, locally roasted blend (a gift, very solid coffee though perhaps a bit preachy in their marketing)
but after that, who knows
i like to keep it spontaneous (;

but is that really how you use the atmos container?
i pour my beans into it and then remove the air.
seems like a bit of a waste to just put the whole bag in there.

It works really well! Try it. It sucks the air out of the bag itself it's pretty cool. I found that the atmos sometimes loosened its air lock, this way if that happens the bag is fully sealed with no air. Good for travelling as well, I don't want to bring glass stuff so I suck the air out of the bag before leaving.
>ramirez collection
I bought this and alternately the Borbollon washed (haven't tried yet). So far I think it's quite true to the description and I am enjoying. Honestly I picked this one because I wanted to get close to one of the Vinhal ones I loved and it is a bit similar.

If you have the space for it, just build a cheap little free-standing counter table. You can even attach wheels to it.
There are many tutorials online, but I was reminded of this one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k6m0XH1fV7w

I tried giving up coffee while whitening my teeth, I only made it like two weeks. I was in one of the areas that had to evacuate due to the fires (everything's fine but the air quality sucks). Between the moving and new work sites and going back and then my mom suddenly getting really sick I didn't last very long and am back on the sauce.
Quitting was simultaneously harder and easier than I thought it would be. It was hard because I got legit withdrawal syndromes, felt like I had a flu that would only go away if I took little sips of coca cola. But once I got past those first 3 days I was fine and it felt pretty easy. I'm back to drinking coffee and honestly I think quitting is overrated. Yeah that's what an addict would say but I liked that coffee let me get away with so little sleep and I was already getting desensitized to caffeine so getting back on it made me anxious and I didn't like that. Just feels like there's too many benefits compared to the drawbacks.

I considered it but felt like I'd rather take on the challenge of quitting caffeine and coffee just to experience what it would be like. Also a big part of my enjoyment isn't just the caffeine but the taste and ritual of making and drinking coffee which pills lack. I'll probably give it another shot soon. My teeth are acceptable but I'm vain so I'll try quitting again to get my teeth as white as possible.

yeh the seal loosens after around a week i find.
so if you tighten it and then just leave it for a week it will let all the air back in
but its not really designed to be used like that so i dont really see it as a problem
its meant to be opened and closed every day or every other day.

not that i know of.
im sure it exists but yeh idk.
the problem is probably the silicon seal.
its just not strong enough to hold the "vacuum" for that long unless you make sure to give it an extra "pump" once every other day. but that sorta defeats the purpose of having long term storage.

hes not waiting for the pressure to reverse and suck the coffee through the grounds and the filter down into the boiler.
which is literally the entire point of a syphon brewer
as soon as he takes the heat away he lifts the top of the brewer and tilts it, breaking the vacuum so the coffee just trickles down using gravity.
which is why you can see it stall, it should filter back down very quickly. but in his it isnt. its just sitting up the top because he didnt do it right.

it just seems like a normie who sees a syphon and thinks "oh yeh thats super advanced and nerdy"
like he says "if you cant tell, i am psychotically serious about my coffee" just because of the brewer he uses and not because he actually knows anything about coffee or what he is doing with the syphon or how it works or how its supposed to be used.

thats not a "vacuum" container.
there is still the same amount of air between the beans as there would be if it was just in a bag that you squeeze the air out of.
it lasts longer because its not creating a pressure differential.

The biggest difference between Bialetti moka pots would be the material, whether it's cast aluminium or stainless steel.
I've heard the quality on the aluminium models has really gone down, but I only have a stainless steel (Venus) model so I can't comment on that directly. If you want stainless steel, Bialetti's still one of the cheapest options. I'm satisfied with mine.

Nah just a suspiciously long dated best before, it is locally-ish roasted though so that's neat
I started the grinder at 2.5 grindy units and it's definitely sweeter and fresher than the big bag of generic preground coffee, I'm not sure I get the promised "berry notes" but maybe I just need to dial it in

I've been using an old plastic hand grinder and doing pourover with okay'ish beans for a few years.
Would upgrading to a 50-75 hand grinder be better than just spending that money on better beans? In higher effort periods, I'm getting something locally roasted from a coffeeshop, otherwise it's something mid tier at costco.

If the choice is either locally roasted beans with a cheap ceramic grinder, or Costco beans with a mid-tier steel-burr hand grinder, I'd go with the locally roasted beans and ceramic grinder.
How much does your local roaster charge that it's unreasonable to buy locally roasted coffee and still have some money left over for the nicer grinder? My local roaster charges CAD$16/lb for the cheapest single origins which I consider to be pretty reasonable despite costing twice as much per pound as Costco whole beans. But then again, I don't drink as much coffee as some people.

So I tried my first coffee with a manual grinder (kingrinder k6).
>didn't understand how to adjust the grind size, didn't know whether to start from 0 or 40 (it turned anti-clockwise past 0 to the very bottom)
>so I just counted 65 from 0 because I'm using a moka pot
>got some lower caffeine coffee beans from the store
>was slightly bitter but also thin-tasting, despite using 15g of beans
so while I thought it was good and better than what I had before (instant and pre-ground), I was still expecting more. Does the coffee taste kinda bland because it was low-caffeine? Was my grind size incorrect? I made sure to cook it without bubbling the coffee, so I think I controlled the heat well enough

The numbers are there just as a guide. True zero is when the adjustment cannot be tightened any further. On my K6 it's five clicks beyond zero, it was three beyond zero when the grinder was new. Every grinder is different, find the touch point on yours and work with that in mind. For example, I have to add five to whatever the dial says on my K6 to get an accurate reading.
As for thin and bland tasting coffee out of a moka pot, grind finer.
Stirring the grinds with a toothpick before leveling the bed also greatly improves moka flavour.

Yeah, I've never heard of any grinder starting so far off. It's likely defective.
Contact the seller, maybe you can get a refund or replacement. If not, take it apart and see if you can align it better, but only do this if the seller refuses refund/replacement.

Well I tried 65 clicks from absolute zero and it was better, had a much fuller taste but it's missing the bitterness from the finer grind which I liked too, so maybe somewhere between those would be good.
The grind seemed uneven honestly. I saw a few (what looked like) chunkier bits in between a even ground, but they also looked like the skins of the coffee beans so I don't know. Tastes a lot better than the coffee I was having before though, do you think this grinder is faulty?
