That's just wrong though. It signals weak story telling to me, that you have to rely on a black samurai as a gimmick to make the story unique or interesting. I've seen every single one of Kurosawa's samurai movies and never once did I think: damn, another Japanese samurai protagonist. Story telling is about plot and character development.
