Go Half-Ogre, max Strength and Constitution early, dump all points into Melee. No need to worry about Willpower or Intelligence—you’ll crush everything in melee combat anyway. For tech/magic, stay completely neutral so you’re not locked into one system. Trust me, this way you get the best of both worlds. Don’t waste points on Persuasion or Repair; just bash things until they work.

melee requires too much stat investment since you need to invest in like 3 attributes and 3 skills, while guns only need 1 attribute and 1 skill iirc.

Guns have scaling and resource issues though

Backstabbing and stun spells though? Oh boy!

I'm sure melee can be fun but it doesn't leave you with much room to invest in non-melee stuff like tech disciplines or non-combat skills.

Read a guide for begujneer tips.
Magic is OP, While Tech requires investment & money
Persuasion is, as in almost all RPGs, is good to invest in a first playthrought.
Save frequently
Use Turn-Based mode, only use realtime whne needed.

How can this be true? Bashing things 'til they do what you want is both a tech discipline and a non-combat skill. Throw something at it instead of bash if you feel like melee vs ranged is an issue.

Guns (and bows and boomerangs) need both dexterity and perception I think. Ammo can get heavy too, especially if you go with grenades, so strength is also a consideration. Guns and throwing are hardmode.

Yeah backstab is broken but at least it's broken in a fun way. Harm is just boring. If I go magic it's for Temporal so I can backstab more.
