Dungeons runs are short and you can take a break from any activity (farming, town management, pet training, etc.) at any moment since you can just save&quit even inside dungeons.
The game also provides a notepad so you write memos in case you take a long break and forget what you were doing before your daily "wife aggro" moment.

I basically just leave it open all the time and take turns in between doing other shit since it uses the roguelike mechanic of time only passing during your actions and it uses very little memory. It's gonna end up my most played game on Steam with hugely artificially inflated hours which is annoying as it'll make me look like a huge weab but whatever. It is very grindy but you can do shit like autoplay a music quest or auto-attack a health sponge while you're doing chores for example, and its turn based nature makes it easy to play while you're watching TV as well. Right now I'm grinding the new MK1 invasion season and doing shit in Elin during MK1's loading screens and fatality animations. It does take a lot of time to make progress but outside of dedicated crafting and building sessions it really is easy to have on in the background and just action tasks in between other stuff.

You probably won't be able to make progress quickly only playing for an hour or less a day and especially as a newb to the game, which is fine if you don't mind. It'll just be slow goings. I like and play the game a lot myself, but if I were a dad with limited gaming time, I'd probably play something more arcade-like and able to flip on or off quick, like Doom. I like Elin, but I feel like it requires some hefty play time to see all of the game and it's also still in early access so if you wanted to wait for a finished game, it could be years.

If you have a Steam Deck or other portable pc-thing, Elin works for me on it. The controls need adjusting because you have to still operate a mouse cursor in the game. I switch back and forth between using the right analog stick and the right touch pad on the deck for mouse control. Other than that it's actually comfy of the deck.

You can remove/add/resize/edit pretty much everything in the UI. The game gives you two presets and you can just download someone else's UI if you are lazy.

You can change the name of your faction with that board and your leadership title (captain, ruler, etc.) with a maid, but that is all for now. Dev's current priority is the melee update.
