I dont use them but I dont get the hate either. The idea behind using a CRT is that it makes everything a blurry mess. The filter in the OP is essentially what fags want.

I like dot grid filters and a very small amount of crt filters but the filters that "round off" pixel edges into a strange mess of a sprite are dogshit and 100% detract from the artist's intentions way more than filterless ever did

Smoothing filters are like the worst of both worlds.
They smudge the shit out of everything, while also being super clear and allowing you to very obviously see the flaws.
Part of the benefit of dot grids and scanlines is that they partially obfuscate the image, and your brain fills in what should be "behind" the gaps.

I have to say I have been messing around with ShaderGlass and I have to agree to a degree with filterfags. Im dumb and some settings are cryptic for me, but I found a preset that IMO blends pixels and clours and improves the image, at least in this exact game, I havent tried it in any other. Of course, it has a tradeoff for me, it looks blurry and sometimes is a bit hard to read text...
