I've felt like a lot of people don't actually like the games they're playing, or at least not the game part of the videogame, and are instead completely locked in on the aspect of pulling for the sake of pulling. My experience with 'the catch' in this case is that if you're constantly showered with pulls, there's some aspect that's designed to be a roadblock, or a massive amount of FOMO (more than usual) in order to entice you to spend it all and still feel like it wasn't enough.

GFL 2 has the hoyo system with more rolls and a lower pity ceiling but the last 2 limited girls have had big power spikes on their first dupe upgrade. At least the upcoming banners aren't nearly as meta so i can stock up on rolls

In the past:

GFL 1, it was actually pretty fair, just had a long rng equipment grind, and you had to optimize your runs so you didn't use too many resources when leveling stuff. The big catch was dorms so you could either wait for all the free premium currency or just bite the bullet and pay. The only other thing you paid for was the skin gacha which doubled as furniture gacha for dorms.

Genshin, no one thinks this shit is fair. I mean you could argue that since you only. need 4 stars to clear all story and events, and higher investment in them to clear abyss, that it's pretty fair in that regard. But this shit was beyond stingy for f2p

Arknights, uhhh it was only fair if you started from the very beginning like I did, and really you were reliant on the $5 monthly to get enough for pulls every banner. With the $5 monthly you actually could just hit every banner or at least that's how my luck went. Played until shortly after W release and hit every single banner. The game had pretty large powercreep though so you needed to follow China's meta to actually have a decent time with the challenging events.

Currently:

Nikke, pilgrims are bullshit and need a better update than the pilgrim wishlist. Everything else just comes with time and new accounts kind of just speed their way into success. I didn't have a bad time rerolling at all back when I got into it and got showered with SSRs and broke the wall fairly fast.

Horizon Walker, pulling is based on a generic currency that you constantly get but it's also tied to many upgrade methods. Barely a way to earn premium currency in the game, and after completing nearly all 3 star content I have less than enough to get 3 skins. The shop prices are insane but it's extremely f2p friendly with its roll system.

GFL2, thought the genshin system would kill it but it's actually been much more fair. But it's still simultaneously it's biggest catch, coupled with the shit attachment/attachment enhancement system.

Pulls are plenty as long as you actually play the game and SSR rate is very high at 3% and 6% during some events with there is no paid weapon system but

Chances of actually getting the rate up character is too low (%0.6 iirc) so you end up with plenty SSRs you don't want which is frustrating.
You need more copies or have to spend premium currency to actually get your character to 5 stars (SSRs start at 3 stars and can get as high as 8* )
There is no soft pity, you can only spark the rate up character at 200 pulls.

When you're in sparking territory there's no risk but if you want a girl and the spark is far away then tough shit

"This game is generous" is the gacha equivalent of "It's not pay to win, it's pay to not grind".

I got Astra Yao and her weapon in Zenless Zone Zero in a total of 70 pulls. This is incredibly lucky. If I didn't luck out, it could have tripled in pulls for the same outcome. The average pull rate for a limited SSR in Hoyoverse games is around 106. Even ZZZ ,the one with the most "generosity", gives around 17,000 polychromes worth of roll a whole patch cycle. That's assuming you do every single piece of content, including endgame. That is exactly 106 pulls. Keep in mind each patch cycle has two banners, so unless you're lucky or pay money you have to give up one of the two limited characters. This is completely ignoring W Engines.

The most generious gacha game in terms of pulls was Eversoul. Devs shit out 10 rolls daily. However they've been putting out high power low rarity characters, exactly similar to how Nikke does Pilgrims, except you need to pull that character 10 times to max them out, with only two copies coming from mileage rewards. Without the devs shitting out gems, it's worse than Fire Emblem Heroes and Fate Grand Order.

If I ever say that it's because I'm comparing it to duel links which not only attempted to lock cards completely behind a pay wall, despite that did, maybe still does have cards you need at 3 copies locked behind a paywall due to not letting you use selector tickets on them, regularly releases boxes that give you a limited amount of free currency pulls which isn't enough to go through even half the box if I remember right and you most likely want to go through it three times, then by the time they finally get to releasing these cards from their pay to play prison they power crept them, if a deck is viable for long enough they will just slaughter it so it is unplayable through the banlist, routinely making core cards that are needed at three copies the hardest to get ones in the box just to screw you over. So yeah every single gacha I have played has been more generous and better to the player than that awful game was and most likely still is if it's not even worse at this point
