The credits are still there, the people who made Stormblood great and shadowbringers acceptable are still there but they ended up in the credits of XVI or in cases like with Komoto: XVI & porting Dragon Quest Builders. If they're not in CS3, they're drifting through to CBU-CS1 and even CS2 etc.

It's a management issue. When you get to the heart of it, people have been promoted beyond their station or into roles that are there because they must advance in their career. BOTH Ishikawa and Oda are now in charge of writing, Hiroi is doing MSQ and you'd think with a paragon of intelligence around building a successful MSQ and issues it can have with quest design that would inform Dawntrail, right? Well, not really. Ishikawa's there, she's getting a salary and we're seeing issues we saw in Stormblood crop back up when both her and Oda split the story.
Now is that their fault? Yes. Yes it is. BUT it's also their producers fault, their director, the person who put them into these roles and doesn't have a vision for the game. That above all else.
When it comes to battle content, in EW they tried promoting people upwards, yeah, things took a step back like with MOTR. Then you have people like Ozma who are tripling down on their design flaws, completely oblivious to feedback and where the fanbase are.

It's become an echo chamber. Even for fans to give feedback: They had to submit to being shouted down by fans.

Dawntrail can be saved as an expansion with a good post game story and tonnes of good content, casual and midcore alike. A second Stormblood if you will.
The first alliance raid is good, the storyline for the first raid series is interesting enough too and it's not just fanservice to other FF games or relying on something like muh asciansmuhancientsmuhallagans to pull through.

Only, yeah, you see it. I see it. We're in January. The game launched in July and we're two instalments into a raid series and not much else.
Excluding ultimate that only attracts a small percentage of the top end: Everything we'd consider good is pencilled into the future and it's praying that it's not shit, not one time run and done content. We've had no word of a trial series yet either.
On the other side: Chaotic seemed refreshing at announcement but then launched at the worst possible time and repeated the same mistakes criterion had.

Having that large gap is tough. People get their combat jobs up to level, they level their crafters so when the content does come later some of the new stuff is deflated a bit too if you can level in it. They can't just cap you halfway and trickle out more levels or borrowed power because then they'll get called out for it.
It's not a good position to be in but it's a misstep at the planning stage; perhaps brought around by the copy pasting culture within CS3.

There's a clear jumping off point for the character or a time for them to fade into the background or take on a story/life of their own but the writers don't know what to do with the character.
The same issues applies to Ishikawa's precious too.

Estinien works because he DID go off, he was recruited in at a time where it was appropriate, it fit, then...he was there for EW, uh, he was out of place mostly but he was there so we could go to radz. EW post he fit, he was on an adventure himself, he had a clear motive for what he was doing.
Letting him fade back into the background again only to show up in Tural when shit was dire was a way to handle these characters.
Only when it comes back to it, he's filled the role Thancred had because Thancred is now best buds with Urianger and Urianger's role has been taken over by Y'shtola & Krile..

They really don't know where to fit these characters. I personally think the issue may lie with Y'shtola stealing focus away after ShB, pair it with Thancred/Urianger and the dynamic was lost.

It's amazing how 6.0 for all it's ups and downs delivered some heavy impacting music and scenes and 7.0 had almost nothing even when it had a final zone that could have easily delivered it.
Somehow Krile having the most important moments in her life fell flat at an expedited pace and Erenville's ended up being the only one that partially delivered the harder you look at Cachuia's circumstances.

I don't even know how they're going to make people care in 8.0 without pulling out an actual WoL character from another reflection and giving them a brutal yoko taro esque experience like what happened to our lad Ardbert.

Like he was a sickly kid, called the Resilient Son because he managed to hold onto life in spite of being afflicted with some sort of misbegottenness stemming from his father's status as a supposedly infertile hybrid. Some time before the trials began he got stronger and more capable and can stand with the other claimants

But we see weird shit that doesn't add up like maybe a half-glimpse of a regulator he keeps hidden and one of his lackey with technology a bonegrinding savage shouldn't have. Multiple accounts of how Zoraal Ja fought just to live until extremely recently and making him seem like a sympathetic underdog compared to our new best friend.

Then it turns out that Zoraal basically made a deal with the devil out of desperation because he KNEW he wouldn't be seen as good enough to rule even though he was his father's only real child. The Miracle Child as he's referred to in Japanese. This would also make his daddy issues more believable as Galool Ja Ja did nothing to help him and seemed perfectly fine with handing his throne over to some random stray he picked up rather than his actual son.
