I never noticed it until recently, but there are so many elements from Ultima Underworld and other classic RPGs in Minecraft. From the texture work, to the focus on simulation, and the fact that most of the weapons and early blocks are fantasy based.

A lot of the shit in Minecraft at the start, the textures and items especially, were almost all directly carried over from an Ultima Underworld-like previous project. That's actually the only reason Chainmail still exists in Minecraft to this day.
