It's mostly a private equity consortium led by Atwater Capital running it. The business model is to buy up loads of kids' leagues and clubs then start squeezing the parents for money for clothes, equipment, travel, etc. They use the pro league to market to kids to get more of them in their club system. Same consortium has done the same thing in competitive cheerleading apparently.
LOVB has bigger name players than PVF but they also do bizarre things like having the 1 libero rule and then signing Lexi Rodriguez to the same team as Justine Wong-Orantes because they're both former Huskers. It'll be interesting to see the crowds at their Omaha home games, especially going head-to-head with the Supernovas who look like they have a lot of support.
