I was kinda surprised to see that the D-LUX 8 is just a rebadged Panasonic LX100M2 from 2018 with the only exception being that it has 1/2000 max shutter speed vs 1/4000 on the LX100M2 so in a way a slight downgrade.
Intredastingly Panasonic also just anounced the TZ99 which is just a rebadged TZ90 where they have removed the viewfinder and added a tilt-screen and swapped the micro usb port for a usb-c one.

That goes without saying, but it is fascinating nonetheless that new compact cameras are just recycled crap. There is very little innovation at the moment.. I mean re-releasing cameras that are 7-8 years old? No wonder the used market is so strong.
I wonder if some new tech is around the corner and that what we are seeing is the last hurrah of sorts. The last RX100 was what? 2019?

They were virtually killed by phones but zoomers brought them back. I actually really like the idea of the tz90 and am happy we're getting anything new at all, especially at a relatively affordable price. If it were weather sealed and had slightly better AF it'd be a no brainer for me. I'm sure it's hard to make compacts sealed in any way while still having a 30x zoom, but the idea that some dust could fuck it up permanently turns me off it completely.

I'd go further and say they're pretend-luxury products where you almost only pay for the brand.
True luxury is actually good and rare - not just overpriced with le minimalist design.

I think it's a minor issue desu
I've had a compact zoom for a couple years and while there's a bit of dust inside and the frame is battered and worn in works fine.
I'm pretty sure there are places that would clean it out for $100-150 if it effected image quality

Well the real Leicas are handmade, which greatly increased the price. Whether or not this actually provides any better experience to the customer, I don't know. Doubtful. Hasselblad's are just expensive because they're intended to be ultra-high end, high performing commercial products. Obviously not all of them are, but that's the reason behind the pricetag for the commercial models.

Speaking of dust.. the Panasonic LX100, DMC-TZ100 and similar are all very prone to getting dust in the lens. In fact they are some of the worst cameras I've handled in that regard. That Leica zoom is no bueno.
