the padding is extremely bare bones, the sling is more to conceal the camera and protect it from the elements

for longer trips I use a manfrotto street slim backpack which can hold the OM-4Ti with an 28mm mounted + a 300mm lens, 200mm lens, 135mm lens, 50mm lens, F280 flash and all that in just the camera compartment leaving huge amount of space for accessories, tripod, water bottle and a tablet if needed

I love compact cameras like you wouldn't believe.

Mine just slides into my jacket pockets.

Buy a camera insert, you can turn any bag into a camera bag with that. So you could buy whatever backpack you like or something like a canvas messenger, then just put the insert inside and it's a camera bag. My camera goes in my jacket pocket, it's very compact though.
In the future when I get a larger camera I intend on carrying it in a small satchel.
