It's a great device. Quality build, display is choice, battery life stellar, and plenty of nits for outdoor use.The only reason I bought it was because I wanted to flash GrapheneOS to it. Camera quality wasn't considered but now that I've joined the consoomer-tier photography club, I'm glad I made the choice I did. Thanks, no editing apart from cropping the image in mspaint, I suspect the AI on the phone makes everything brighter, less blurry etc but I do notice the 1st lens will hardly even pick up a single star, you have to zoom in/out to get the sweet spot.

You have to get a tripod. The normal 4 second exposure is not the actual night photography mode that most phones have nowadays.
The night photography mode only activates if your phone is completely still on a tripod

I still think that smartphone photography is a meme but s24u sort of surprised me. There is a lot of AI processing slop going on but I would be lying if I said that there was no progress in mobile cameras. Physics still wins in the end though and a DSLR / mirrorless will always be on top but the convenience to performance lines are getting really close to intersecting on my graph.

The phone did most of the work. I just edited the photos to have a bit darker shadows, put a blue-ish tint over them and some other minor color corrections.
The original photos had a really warm tone which I didn't really see fitting with the scenery so I ended up editing them

Lately my iPhone has been unable to properly focus on anything more than a couple metres away, it keeps going in and out of different focus settings and if you're lucky it'll land on the one you need for a split second then change to something else.
I looked it up and it seems like a common issue happening to older phones over the past year (I've got a 12 mini) and it might just be software related instead of some issue with the lens, but of course Apple isn't doing anything about it and apparently if you take it to a service centre they just recommend a new phone.
I want to find a new app that lets you manually slide the focus (preferable in an intuitive way, like with a slider) anyone have any recommendations? Or even just any input on what might actually be happening to the lens.

I don't know anything about that lens but I don't see any reason you'd want to align them optically when you can just do it in software after the fact. I guess technically the focal planes are not parallel with your eyes but in practice it won't matter at all.

Wow that's some insane lighting. It reminds me of the sunrises we got last year during the canadian wildfires where there was a crazy amount of haze. Is that all fog or what?

This area is a sub-alpine peatland in the summer so it might be absolutely crawling with no see ums, mosquitos and deerfly when the weather is fairer. It's one of my favorite mini biomes to hike through though, alongside that altitude where the trees are kept about 10 or 15 feet tall from the high winds and everything is covered in a deep layer of moss and lichen that I can only assume is moistened by the summer fog rolling off into the valleys every morning.
