Why does hiking attract so many trust fund kids? I can't tell you how many people i've met on trails that have told me they have no job and have a trust fund instead. I've never been apart of a hobby that had so many occurrences of this.

They would just quit their job and either get rehired or get another job, this was pretty common a couple years back when tech companies were hiring anyone with a pulse and a CS degree.

I suspect we'll see less of them doing it nowadays now that getting hired has become more difficult
