RabAscent1100+MarmotWindRiver-10F
i'll be going hiking/trekking in maine in mid-Feb so i'd like a comfy down sleeping bag with me.
considering temps can get as low as -10*F, all the various affordable 0*F bags are out of consideration.
thing is, there are only a select few of -10*F down bags that are within 400USD, other equal and lower-temp rated's jumps to 600USD++ so i don't want to make that jump yet.

i kind of like the Ascent more since it has a long zip on the side variant and i can use it as a blanket in warmer temps whereas the Wind River only has torso and footbox zips, but Ascent is an obsoleted model which went for as low as 230USD towards EoL a few years ago. i feel fucking conflicted and headache'd and am now contemplating getting the Wind River just to get it over with.

also, gear thread.

Good bags but way too heavy.

keep in mind the Rab bag the LIMIT is -13f, meaning the comfort rating is something like -3f, so you might be quite cold at -10f. The Marmot doesn't list this, but it's usually safe to assume the listed temperature is the safety limit so you will probably be cold in that one as well.

Are you going to be sleeping naked while all your layers lay uselessly somewhere? I've lived in northern New England my whole life and have never needed anything more than a 0 degree bag.
