Have you taken the greatcoat pill?

With a lot of the US being hammered with snow right now, share your tips and tricks for thriving out in the white stuff. Or, just share pics from recent trips or your go-to loadout.

Tried out the $45 walmart 10degree bag on this trip. Shockingly effective when paired with greatcoat and a spare 30degree over top. Got down around 5 that night

Yes, tomorrow morning at 5:30 a.m. I'll sit in my snow-covered car, start the car, set the a/c to high, turn on the heated front/rear window and steering wheel. Wait 3 minutes and then drive 60 km through the snow to work.

If you need to ask this and you don't know where to find the answer, then you're not ready.

thanks, i know a lot of this stuff already but i'm still scared. i'm planning on doing a hike this weekend up to about 4.5k feet depending on the avalanche forecast, should be more or less below the treeline the whole time.

Get snowshoes. Seriously. They're a godsend and I have no idea why it took me so long to get a pair.

This year I took the ECWCS/PCU pill and honestly I'm in love with the gear and how layering with it works. I do use a normal big down jacket i bought ages ago for when I need L7 and my merino wool for base layers but the rest is surplus.

Synchronicities abound lately
Recently hunting for something to make my nightly smoke sessions more bearable in the teens
Lucked out on an LLbean "greatcoat"
Nor'easter commuter coat size L
Thinsulate, gortex, wool lined chest, insulated hood, sueded exterior $40 ebay
then i found a down greatcoat with fox lined hood for $20 size M
Lucked out they layer perfectly, its like a down fur liner for the llbean
So for $60 after shipping I can walk Antarctica
I would love a wool one but what I lucked out on will serve me great and I mean
The performance is like a $1000 'coat system'
The llbean looks similar to yours but comes to my mid shins (same as the down)

I legitimately have thousands and thousands worth of mountaineering clothing from arcteryx and patagonia that I have never used. My dream has always been to become a mountaineer but I have severe social anxiety so I never can go hiking or do anything. I signed up for a snowshoeing course in 2 weeks, I'll probably won't go though.

You can hike alone 4 seasons if prepared. Mountaineering though is a bit suicidal alone

Because I hike year around? Mountaineering alone though is pretty suicidal. Having another person there provides a lot of safety especially when climbing.
