Did the narrows hike at zion this week, ended up being over 10 miles in total. Little changes in elevation but very technical. First time I ever felt a walking stick felt needed as it helped to balance while walking over wet rocks almost constantly.

You pass this little waterfall right before the first deep water section (can get up to chest level a few times).

Despite being close to 100 degrees outside the narrows, inside it felt like around 65 degrees, sometimes with a strong breeze which felt great. Started at 8am, finished around 4pm and most of the time there was no direct sunlight, so by the time I was done I had hardly sweat (or used my sunglasses or hat), didn't need much water and probably could've skipped sunscreen. Temperature-wise it was the most comfortable hike I've ever been on, surface-wise the most uncomfortable.

This is what you see at the ~4.5 mile mark (not including half a mile from the shuttles to the narrows), my understanding is that to go beyond this point you need a permit, so this is the end of the normal full hike. You just turn around and go back, no loop. Overall a great experience, I can see why some people have it on their bucket lists, really beautiful the entire time and most people don't do the full hike so there's not much traffic past the beginning section. My home board is /fit/ but I wanted to stop by here and share, glad I do cardio because this was a hell of a workout, more than any other hike or trail I've done before.

I did Mt. Tom, Willey and Field on Monday.
Bluebird day, I ended up being overdressed but once I stripped down it was a fantastic hike.
The tards at the Willey overlook were feeding the grey jays, which is a shame though. They were completely tamed, on the way up a few of them flew right up to me only 8 or 10 inches away.

Its ok but its kinda a joke because most of the best hiking is to the east. If you havent seen them - check out kinzua sky walk, jakes rock (above the allegheny reservoir), and ministers creek overlook, and hearts content old growth, but the best stuff is sort of between like st marys pa and scranton - pine creek and its tributaries
pic related is a tributary of west branch susquehanna near renovo- the actual national forest just doesnt have that much its more like snowmobile trails oh but there is pigeon run falls but u can only get there from the west in marienville and then u take the spring creek horse trail north
The best stuff is in state forest and state game lands.

Took this one yesterday. The scenery was nice, but there was complete silence and I was thinking maybe a predator was nearby. I was halfway to my destination and decided to go back, I feared it would get very dark on my way back, and plus, I felt watched.

>Snowshoe hike?
Yeah, the traction they provide is unreal even if the float is unnecessary. I got msr evo ascents so they also have a heel riser that makes uphills a breeze.
>How do you like that HPG backpack?
It's a good, solid bag and I really like it but be warned they'll nickel and dime you for ever piece of it. If I could go back in time, I'd probably get a larger pocket for the compression straps like the admin pocket or tarapocket. At a minimum you're probably going to want a belt so just factor that into the price if you do decide to purchase.
My single complaint is that the velcro panel which holds the belt in place is backed with cloth and the two layers are only glued together so with time and a lot of back sweat the glue has failed and the two layers delaminated. It doesn't really affect the function but it's annoying that in such an expensive bag they couldn't have run a line of stitching around the edge

It's tough to access nature in Thailand as a train traveler, but yesterday I found this beautiful 4 km hiking trail across a rocky plateau within walking distance of the Khao Suan Kwang railway station. Up here it is drier than points south, so the vegetation is more woodland than jungle.

It was so calm and peaceful until that front hit us, the wind got kinda crazy after that.

I hate how grayed-out the mountains are most days. I wonder if you could catch a clearer outline of the hills if you went in different lighting conditions (cloudier) or maybe just before sunrise.
Anyways, this is the Appalachian Trail.

It was a nice day, very windy and cold but I like it. "summit" is at 900m, snow should stay there for some time.

>best conditions are after rainfall, the first day when it's sunny.
thanks I will keep that in mind
I find the best photos I get are in conditions where it is mostly to fully cloudy, enough to block the sun directly but let some indirect rays through to highlight the colors and contrast of the terrain.
