I've completely filled my boot with ice water during a moderately cold winter hike while wearing wool socks + wool boot linings and I managed to hike another hour without too much discomfort. As long as you keep moving your body heat will warm the sock/trousers and the wool will still do an ok job at insulating you from the cold. I've given this a lot of thought. I still hadn't actually bought a wool kilt (since the shitty one I got at a ren fair in the 90's) I've bought 2 pv kilts and a utilikilt. I have no illusions why I'm doing it. It's for attention and to put my wife in the mood to peg me (we have conveniently dovetailing gender role issues.)
It's also more comfortable on long drives if you go "regimental" , but that's really an afterthought.

As for wool, I have found that wool blend socks reduce for pain and are more comfortable than cotton. The down side is they shrink, even if you hang them to dry. Knit wool caps are very comfortable and not as bad in hot weather as you might think, but not preferable in summer.

A practical tip: it's get easier to wear shorts and knee high wool socks on a cold morning and change your socks when it gets hot than to change pants to shorts.

While I do this for practical reasons on appropriate days, I have noticed younger women initiating conversation and smiling at me. I can't say for sure if they are turned on by it as I'm not about to fuck up my job and my marriage to find out, but I like the attention and that's good enough.

I really want to wear the wool kilt socks unfolded as thigh highs, but I think that's pushing it. I wasn't kidding about the autogynephilia. It's a line I won't cross though. At least not at work, not yet.

I got these. They're for the inside pair. I wear 2 pairs of socks. They're actually on the tin side. They look pretty good of you're into that sort of thing, but they are too thin for cold weather, even as an inner sock. They are definitely too thin as a stand alone sock for anything but fashion.

This. There are prestine second hand Pendletons on eBay or other second hands online stores everywhere. Just make sure you ask for measurement. Many sell their shrunk shirts once they accidentally wash them. Only buy the ones with tags that say made in US (pre 90s) or Mexico (contemporary). If they are made anywhere else they are always cotton and not wool, and worthless. Pendleton makes their non wool garments in South East Asia. If you dont mind spending on a new one thats cool, but why would you? EBay is full with them. They have a slightly over sized cut which is nice too imo. The ones made in USA (vintage) sometimes have slightly shorter sleeves than the modern shirts, but its not too noticable. On the flip side the old shirts have a softer wool, since its less treated, which makes it worth keeping an.eye out for an old made in USA shirt.

Yea, gloverall makes the "original monty" coat which is 90% wool, and has 3 strings. Comes in at a premium price, but most other models I find are either 70 or 80 percent wool. This includes stuff I find on eBay. Seems they all started blending in plastic in the 70s onwards. This Gloverall model however looks like a nice coat, even has the traditional leg loops inside which meant to stop it from flapping in the wind. The length is also nice and long.

I think it's just a co-spun yarn. Superwash wool has a synthetic film fused directly onto the wool, but I've never heard of that being done with polyester.

If it was they'd mention it. I think both the outer and the lining are this recycled wool blend. Might even be a double-face fabric.

The poly content is obviously not biodegradable, but there's no reason it would stop the wool part from composting. And yes, it's recyclable. Wool gets worse every time it's recycled though - the strands get shorter, stick out, make it itchy, reduce durability, the whole deal. It is reflected in the price of course - I can't compare dollar prices, but it's 200€ on sale in europe, which is frankly half of what an equivalent coat in high quality virgin wool would cost. Like this one from Armor lux for example.

I recently got into motorcycles and living in Ohio right now it is pretty chilly so I've been gearing up and have everything I need for cold rides except a warm insulated baselayer and have just been using my around the house t-shirts. Its the model I mentioned here >>2793051 and even has leg loops! Basically water proof at 90 percent wool and super thick. The wool is practically like loden even though they dont call it that. If you find one in your size go for it, just make sure its not the the 70% wool model ( which is identifiable through 4 toggles rather than 3, and usually has leather strings and no rope closure). Despite that, it always looks good on items like overshirts, handkerchiefs, scarfs etc. The lack of a tertiary or quaternary colour probably helps keep it quite dull and toned-down. It's relatively hard to make look tacky, no matter how much gift shops and tourists may try.

Which was all a very long way of saying I agree and I think that shirt looks good.

Yeah. But I wouldn't consider wearing flannel (patterns) in anything other than a shirt. Too complicated to pull off and nice colors are also hard to find. I will say though, the black watch that Pendleton used to make was much more vibrant and bright than their newer shirts. I used to have a vintage one, but sadly didn't fit me so I sold it. Pic rel is more contemporary and the green appears duller/darker than the previous shirt in the same light.

Cotton clothing is also described as flannel sometimes. So i was refering to the pattern.
