What's the most recent song/album that really convinced that ''it doesn't sound like anything else that's ever been made before'' and truly felt like it was exploring uncharted sonic territories? Have we hit already the absolute limit of what you can do with music in terms of hardware and software? Because I haven't felt this way about anything in many years. Even previously promising trailblazers like Igorrr, Iglooghost, Frontierer/Sectioned...etc have hit a plateau.

the last thing thats felt fresh to me is like, tyler the creator.
i dont think we've dried the well, i think the stuff thats more easily enjoyable and shareable is the stuff made by people not interested in pushing further, but rather recombining old ideas in ways new to *them*, not to us. the 70s might have been the age of progress, but i'd call the 10s and 20s the age of reconfiguration.

really? it doesn't sound too different from j-pop stuff. even only acting has its own darker counterparts in japan, especially with post-idol artists that have gone artsy once they left their initial cutesy spheres.
vocaloid music was pretty unique for a while through its combination of theatrical elements with more hardcore strands of electronic music. see: Maretu.

Speleogenesis by Dave Schoepke has some unique rhythms to it.
