The OP says open your DAW and make music for 30 minutes. You could use that time making patches in a synth and then playing, or not, but there shouldn't be any expectation that you make instruments from scratch. Bros recording their acoustic instruments aren't expected to build a fucking guitar in the 30 minutes.
And DAWs are designed to be convenient, that's why you can save presents and templates. I have an orchestration template saved with all the instruments already set up. If I started a 30 minute track in that I'd be able to just spend it making music. In the context of orchestral music that doesn't seem against the spirit of the thread. Mozart never designed a fucking instrument in his life, he just wrote music for ones that already existed. Personally I think dropping premade loops and stuff in is hacky and dishonest in the context of the challenge of the thread, but you could argue the same for samples and if you tried to enforce a "no samples" rule you'd basically be ruling out entire genres. I bet there's plenty of people who could take a swing at a passable dnb or related genre in half an hour but would be fucked if you took away their pre-recorded breaks and told them to sequence everything from scratch from an empty DAW template.
At the end of the day I think the purpose of these threads is to get you making music, so as long as you're doing that great. This is why the idiots uploading music AI made for them should fuck off, the point isn't "I want new music to listen to" the point is to motivate creatives to try and produce more music. I've posted music in this thread that wasn't finished and I wouldn't bother sharing in a different context because it is in the spirit of the thread to do so, but usually I'm someone who can spend 30 minutes getting the velocities right on a melodic phrase.
30 minutes is a pretty serious time constraint (providing you are actually doing that), some people will take whatever shortcuts they can.
