He denied it in later interviews, like in the dialogue with Peterson. In other words, he said it to be provocative against Muslims. He was struggling for relevance and never produced actual scientific work so the move made sense.

Theism necessitates religion. Believing in a God that is non-personal, non-observing, non-interventionist, and purely metaphysical is effectively just implicit atheism (as opposed to explicit atheism). Otherwise you would have to introduce necessary religious elements like the idea that God is personal.

Theism is just the belief in at least one god. It's a pretty broad term.

Someone who has a sacred cow that cannot be questioned
Of which they have sets of rituals to venerate their sacred cow
Of which they have various leaders which they hold to be speaking the language of the holy
Of which they have their heresies and crucify anyone that goes against their dogma

>Didn't Dawkins say that he is a cultural Christian?
Dawkins appreciates “Christian values,” but Christian values are reflection of Western values, and not the other way around. We actually take very little morality from the Bible, and a lot of it is standard stuff like
>Do not murder
Otherwise, Christianity molded itself around Western values, not Biblical values.
>Slavery outlawed
>We don’t stone women for fornication/adultery
>We don’t give a fuck about food laws
>No circumcision
>We enact justice through the legal system instead of “turning the other cheek”
>We don’t venerate slaves for obeying their masters
>We’ve fought wars over taxation rather than “rendering unto Caesar what is Caesar’s”
But Dawkins is a “cultural Christian” because he appreciates Western values that the church espouses that don’t even derive from Christianity.
