If the canaanites aren't descended from Shem, why did they speak a semitic language and have indistinguishable genetics from the Ancient Israelites? Why did outsiders like the Ancient Egyptians and the Assyrians consider them the same people?

The Israelites lived in Canaan before Egypt, moving to Egypt to avoid a famine in the late Bronze Age. But know for a fact that the Canaanites were a stable cultural unit throught the Bronze Age and Iron Age, so it's not like the population meaningfully changed between the Israelites leaving Canaan and Exodus. So what the fuck? What possible conclusion can be drawn from this other than the biblical lineage being butchered bullshit?

More to the point, reading between the lines, the implications of this are fucked up. Israelites are Edomite diaspora that came back 400 years later and started genociding all of their cousins. Then they kiss and make up with the Gebalites/Sidonians/Tyrians/Phoenicians for a few hundred years, before sperging out with a 'we wuz led astray' cope and resumed their blood feud until the Babylonians came.

But for what fucking purpose?
Even accounting for the fact that these are mostly mythical accounts, this really doesn't add up in a way that makes the Israelites look good.

Why did they go buttfuck insane in Egypt? Even if they were chattel slaves, it doesn't account for their wicked behavior.

Why did God's plan result in Joshua dying early, and the "reconquest" of Canaan grind to a halt before the Jews got control of the best part of the Holy Land (Mount Lebanon)?

Reading through the Old Testament only makes it seem like the Jews have no fucking clue what the fuck they're talking about. Why did Christians keep this shit in the canon?

Christians don't follow the teachings of Christ and modern Christianity is a well funded slave cult owned by Oligarchs and old money.

I think most of the old testament was written or reinvented during the Babylonian captivity or after it. The priests needed something to justify their power grab and 2 kings is almost entirely them seething about the Israelites telling their southern neighbors to fuck off

Because Christians believe this bullshit really happened historically, and so did the authors of the rest of the Christian canon.
1 Peter 3:18-20
>For Christ also suffered for sins once for all, the righteous for the unrighteous, in order to bring you to God. He was put to death in the flesh but made alive in the spirit, in which also he went and made a proclamation to the spirits in prison, who in former times did not obey, when God waited patiently in the days of Noah, during the building of the ark, in which a few, that is, eight lives, were saved through water.
Jesus historically spoke to people who died in a historical flood to Christians. The Epistle of Jude even quotes 1 Enoch as a prophecy of the historicized Enoch of Genesis.

But the Bible does classify them as Semites. All the named Canaanite tribes like the Edomites, the Moabites, the Amalekites etc. have their own genealogies that go back to Shem. According to the Bible everyone on the planet is descended from 1 of 3 survivors of the flood, and Japhetites and Hamites are almost never relevant.

Canaanites are descended from Canaan, who is descended from Ham.
