Why do so many protestants, especially american protestants, believe that the biblical apocalypse is something that is going to happen literally word for word?
Even christians of the time knew that the apocalypse was just a metaphor for the roman empire being destroyed and christianity triumphing, which it did.

What do you expect from people with low IQ to do? Religious nutjob usually aren't the brightest bulls around and are easily impressionable and not that critical in thinking.

They don't.
>B-but Amerimutts!
They aren't protestant. They are Baptists.
>But w-what about the o-others?
They also aren't normal Lutherans, but also belong to Christian sects, which were heavily discriminated against in Europe. Baptists were drowned in rivers by their own neighbors as a mockery of their strange religion. Americans simply aren't normal Christians.

Not really. Back then Christianity was not the religion of Empires, kingdoms, traditional society, feudalism and monarchy, but the religion of the outcasts, servants and slaves of the Roman Empire. They actually believed that they would be masters in heaven and all of the rich or handsome or strong masters on earth would suffer in hell for the crime of being superior to them. In fact technically all Christians believe that no one is in heaven yet, they are all still waiting for the apocalypse and God's judgement, where everyone is resurrected on earth and then judged. Obviously the Christians of the middle ages didn't believe that and mixed their Christianity with their Pagan beliefs, where you immediately go to an afterlife after death. Maybe even become some sort of angel.

The same bible, the book of daniel, explains that dreams and visions about apocalyptic events are only exaggerations of more mundane events.

Because Rome crumbling is called mystery babylon, it's not just about the fall of Rome but about a mystery religion that goes all the way back to babylon and how it hides within every major civilization since the dawn of civilization. Rome falling (Iron legs) was just passing the torch to the next unnamed civilization that would come after (iron mixed with clay). It doesn't completely collapse until the feet get knocked out from under it, and the mystery is revealed (the abomination of desolation) which will appear in Jerusalem...

It's not like they actually care about understanding the original context or the historical significance. They just wanna be a part of the 'end times' drama and get their apocalypse. It's all just a sick fantasy to distract from the bleak reality of their own meaningless lives. Roman empire's fall? Olease, christians were just along for the ride and cause it, just like they are causing collapse of the west today. It's all just a scripted farce, and they're just playing their part willingly.

oh dear
because they didn't have the historical experience of catholics in failed apocalypse predictions

That is because Catholics believe the Kingdom of Heaven is the slow dissolution of christianity around the globe, that somehow God is waiting on them to do stuff.

But American Catholics are really into the apocalypse predictions, especially tradcaths like SSPX and Sedevacantists. Sedes are saying the Bible predicted COVID and the seven kings of Rome begins with Pius XI. Also making other end times predictions based on the Bible and other things
