You are wrong. Dense populations are a consequence of geography. Civilizations like Japan and China developed in heavily mountainous areas forcing people into concentrated areas. Indus cultures developed in the Indus Valley, European city states first developed along the Mediterranean, Mesoamerican civilizations developed in the Valley of Mexico and clearings in the Central American jungles. These all have one thing in common, geography forced people close to eachother. I am not talking about absolute population, I am talking about population density. Geography = population density = city states. Africa did not have this because Africa is largely planar and its population relative to its overall size was very low prior to the 20th century.
