Does /his/ like Hardcore History? Is it based and/or redpilled? What's your favorite episode or series?

I enjoy listening to it, it's entertainment and that's fine. He brings up stuff I hadn't known before anyway and goes into detail.

other /his/ podcasts I like:
>Fall of Civilizations
>The Rest is History
>In Our Time
>Within Reason

other good suggestions?

I didn't finish listening to either, but Fall of Civilization's episode on the Aztec repeats the same misconception about why local states allied with Cortes that most sources do (EX: claiming Cortes got allies against the Mexica of the Aztec capital because they were hated for being oppressive when in reality Mexica rule was loose and hands off, which encouraged opportunistic side switching and coups, which is what was really mostly going on, see: see pastebin.com/h18M28BR + arch.b4k.co/v/thread/640670498/#640679139 + desuarchive.org/his/thread/16781148/#16781964) and AFAK doesn't dive into actual local Mesoamerican political dynamics much at all. The concheros/danza azteca preformers used in the video version are also inaccurate as well

The Rest is History's Aztec series was decent from what I listened to. It has a few mistakes and kinda repeats that same misconception, but it doesexploring local political dynamics and motives of different Mesoamerican kings, officials, people etc involved (tho not nearly as much as it does with the Spanish side), and you can tell they worked off of modern scholarship like Restall and Townsend's work, tho I have some criticism of the latter's

There's a few podcasts I know which cover the fall of the Aztec and are by actual Mesoamerican hobbyists or specialists, but I haven't kept track of them, I remember mexicapodcast.com and obviously the Askhistorians podcast, but I haven't really listened to the former at all or the latter's conquest episodes so I can't vouch for them

It's not technically a podcast but DJpeachcobbler's Aztec trilogy is also solid, similar to the Rest is History's. There's pinned comments on part 1 and 3 (it's not pinned on part 2 but this link will bring the comment to the top: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2R4U3fy5QQM&lc=UgxHQvVBoV_gz6rZSLV4AaABAg) which go into more depth on the Mesoamerican political side then the vids do, though they already do so some.

It's pretty high quality pop history, and the world needs that. Not everybody who consumes history content is an academic and you're probably not either.

It's pop history, accurate enough if you are just a casual, but not if you are serious about history. Good for an overview if you are thinking about delving into a subject.
It is better to think of it as story time, instead. He is a good story teller and that makes Hardcore History pretty entertaining. His voice is also pretty soothing, so if you are the type that prefers noise to fall asleep too (like me) then it's pretty perfect for that. It's history schlock - good entertainment but not too serious. His other stuff is utter garbage though.
The King of Kings is my favorite series by far.
Thor's Angels and Twilight of the Aesir 1 & 2 (one total series) is pretty good too.
The batshit insanity of Prophets of Doom is also great

It's annoying, when he constantly has to give trigger warnings to his modern audience multiple times per show every hour
>guys guys guys PLEASE Ancient people had a completely different moral standard, yes I know they are basically right-wing extremists by modern standards, but please hear me out, okay? yes, I know they are evil, they are all butchers, evil genociders, but please try to be somewhat normal, okay? okay, can you do that? not be a weirdly post-christian hyper puritan and just enjoy history for what it is? yes, I agree the old days should never ever come back, by today's standards they are all nazis, all evil fascists

the revolutions podcast is a banger. does a good job of going into detail on relatively recent political history without grandstanding. its pop history, but still fun, and is what got me into reading history books in the first place.
