Some software had a ceiling with specific cards, using newer hardware with old software did not mean you got better performance. More RAM is a big boost, but some tasks are gpu bound. I went out of my way to collect certain quadro cards when corona crashed the price of old gpus. I don't get the best performance, but I avoid having to pay subscription fees on some software.

Because they’re outright lying to you, the 9500GT had an $89 MSRP and was very rarely on sale for under $70 and that was only at the tail end of its lifespan after rev 3.
Nor was it a good value or good performer, it was a near performance equivalent to the 8600GT but existed with marketing that it was pcie 2.0 compatible and had a better video decoder.
Which meant nothing because the 8600GT was perfectly adequate and neither of those two performance improvements really meant anything for a card the caliber of the 9500gt
