you probably just need to reapply the thermal paste on your stock cooler

It really doesn't matter unless you get the shittiest, of shitty chinkshit, and even then it's like a 5C difference. Just go to your equivalent of Best Buy/computer store and grab whatever they have on the shelf.

Bro, your CPU isn’t overheating because of the games you play. That stock cooler is just trying to survive while someone is mining in the background. Clean up your PC, because you might already be the CEO of someone's mining operation.

im gonna assume you have a water cooler
congratulatons you either have a dead pump or clogged tubes
you can be thankful that it didnt leak and killed your PC
throw that meme shit in the trash and buy a decent tower cooler
if you do have a tower cooler then you should replace the thermal paste and check if your fans are working and set up properly

Since nobody in this thread is answering the fucking question here is the answer to every CPU cooler issue:
This thing is fucking wizardry. It cools any CPU just fine. You will not need more.

Sure, but he'd be better off just swapping to a peerless assassin for 35 bucks, it comes with new paste. >Using a stock cooler
I dont get it. Yeah it would work with new paste, but if your gonna do all that effort just throw in something nice and future proof for the 20 extra bucks. You can reuse it on your next build even.

My 7800x3D is 39C right now and my 4070 super 28C. 65F room temperature, though 10F outside.

Buying a cooler you can use on every build you make for the next 10 years is a far cry from useless "consooooom"ing. I agree you are right, he could get by repasting his stock cooler, but he wants it to run cooler and stock coolers are shit. A peerless assassin for 35 bucks is a great deal and you will still be using it 10 years down the line. It's a chink product but a very good one.
Also OP's complaint is that his CPU hits 90C while gaming, and it will probably still do that even with a repasted stock cooler. With a peerless assassin he will be maxxing out at 60c.

Wank with thermal paste and jack off on your cpu. That should do the trick.

Anon pls. The Wraith is actually a pretty solid cooler for lower tdp chips. 90C is 100% a thermal paste issue.

nta but thanks anon, I'm currently thinking about upgrading my 5600 and I'm really not sure which cooler is sufficient and where the sweet spot is right now. Most reviewers focus on $150 meme freezers, that are probably marginally better and quieter, but are obviously ridiculous

Just get an aio water pump if your case can fit it.

Follow what that anon says. Even if $35 is too much get something similar for cheaper. My artic freezer cooler (slightly more expensive but I'm just using as an example), for my 150w cpu and I swear to you even at MAX 100% util it never reached 90C. I barely hear it at all too. And I 100% don't hear it over the game sounds. There is 0 reason at all to go with liquid cooling lol I don't know people do it. Have they never tried a decent air cooler?

The best aircoolers on the market are under $50 and fancy thermal paste is a noob trap. We already solved this issue while waterfags were ruining case design to accomodate them

LOL
I even get whisper quiet operation on a fucking 3090 playing 2K@120fps for BG3. Cpu barely hits past 60C with my arctic freezer. Even on my previous prebuilt with a stock cooler that shit was whisper quiet. Unless I have hearing problems I don't believe you lol

Not op but this cooler looks like a real pain on the ass to install if you don't take out the mobo, is it?
I have an artic freezer duo and installing it is a nightmare for me, the fan clips kept falling

Anon, I have an artic freezer duo too. It's not hard at all. In fact, let me once and for all shutup ALL liquid fags (and all vramlets who keep complaining about "muh pcie lanes"). Yup, that's a Corsair Airflow 4000D. Yes, that's 4 pny 3090s that fit in it perfectly, 2 of them are on mining risers using a 1x slot and NVME slot. 4G Decoding on, rebar support+tpm+safe boot disabled. 12600k on a b660m board. And guess fucking what?
Barely 30% fans and <70C on that top pcie slot airchoked 3090 on most games stock, AAA games run quietly with 250w power limit with no FPS loss at all. The case fans at around 900rpm sound louder than anything else in the system (and they're quiet fans btw). Oh, and for my /lmg/ anons. This shit runs mistral large q5_k_m @ over 10tok/s without any optimizations drawing barely 100-150w per gpu (1600w psu handles it just fine). And so far no fire despite genning hunyuan vids all night.
Anyways OP sorry for the rant but my point is YOU DO NOT NEED AN AIO!
