Anons, after stress testing R1 across scenarios for 2 days - unfortunately, it's no Opus. It's not even Nonnet. R1 is smart and uhinged, but also choke full of its own slop. It requires handholding, and has trouble seemlessly adapting. It expects you to command it to do shit, and then gradually disolves into increasingly detached metaphors.

On the plus side, it was trained on internet degeneracy, and it shows. I would go as far as describe it's default style as 'misanthropic nihilist'. If you want it to shoot hot takes and smut in rapid fire - it will deliver. But for anything wholesome or conversational - I found it a no go compared to 4o and nonnet. It becomes half meaningless flowery language, and half 'what do you want me to be?'. Probably best smut model out there though.

So I've been playing around with simple Main prompts for R1. I managed to tone down it's schizo self without ruining the creativity. The prompt is there to basically simulate a lower temp via text. I'm no genius so don't expect perfect replies, but for me this has helped quite a bit. The model is rly fucking good imo.
