Cancer is one of the original target applications when mRNA tech was emerging. The body frequently knows cancer cells needs to be killed but the immune system doesn't ramp up its response enough to overwhelm all the cancer cells and instead the cancer keeps growing. If you can identify specific proteins in the cancer cells that the patient's immune system has become sensitized to, you can use mRNA to have the body create tons of copies of that cancer-identified protein to make the immune system realize that it's in a grave situation and it should ramp up immune response against the cancer cells, and that can make the body successfully kill off the cancer cells by itself.
