Just in case someone cares, these new credits in Designer do indeed work like the old credits that they experimented (only, afaik) in Germany months ago. BIC for now is unaffected, but once you're out of boosts/credits it will fall back on PR-16, so not only you can't generate directly in landscape/portrait, it's quite shitty too. So, I think is is really pretty much the end. Microsoft has been tried hard to kill this thing, they might have finally done it.

I'm not sure if I'm following you, the hidden limit has always been a hard block that gets lifted after *some* hours; to be honest, I've not been hitting the hidden limit in a while because I was rotating accounts (for boosted PR-13 gens) before they introduced these monthly credits in Designer. And now I'm basically genning almost nothing because of that change.

On a related note, I *think* this change in Designer might have been related to Microsoft's attempt at packaging both Copilot and Designer with Microsoft 365 (and hike the price):

Intriguingly enough, I'm getting the distinct impression that this thing can understand longer prompts again. Need to experiment a bit more with it, but I get "sunset" at 572 character position here, it gets triggered very-very consistently.

I've also managed to re-use some 700 characters prompts I used for Designer before Taylor-gate, which have been broken for... almost exactly one year now, and picrelated is exactly an 800 characters prompt, slightly edited ChatGPT-generated slop, it seems to understand the whole prompt, except for the scarf (it was generated in other pictures, but I liked this one better):
