Seeing lots of leather jacket related threads lately. Let's make a leather jacket thread to post inspo, ask questions and get recs

What jackets does everyone own? Which ones do you have your eye on?

My dream jacket is the Schott Perfecto but I would feel like such a poser wearing one
I know how to ride a motorcycle but I'm not a "motorcycle rider" and I used to play in a shitty rock band but not anymore. I still just love the style

Schott does loads of versions of the Perfecto, some with belt, some without, some with it snapped into place, etc.
Worth looking at all the different versions if one is considering getting one to make sure they get the one that works best for them

pretty much just leather version of trucker jackets or blazers, maybe dusters, etc.
remember, the leather jacket is pretty much military or biker inspired to its core. Aviators wore them out of necessity, and same with bikers, so they evolved out of that
things like type III leather jackets are a fairly recent thing taking into account the history of leather jackets

Because you're too insecure and it shows. Also, I'm guessing you've never owned a leather jacket, probably only tried one on
Leather must break in and when it does it drapes and moves better than a stiff heavy new jacket. You just gotta commit to it, wear it and break it in and own it
I am convinced anyone can wear a leather jacket if they just commit and don't overthink it

life is so difficult sometimes. i got a size 44 schott 141 which had kind of a sloppy fit, basically the body was too baggy but the arms were perfect length. so i sized down to a 42 (pictured) and now i feel like the body is good but the arms are too short?

Not the guy you're replying to but the only guy I ever saw look good in a leather jacket was handsome.
If you're not handsome I think the only way you'd make it work is you fit an archetype.
eg. A big fat ugly biker would look normal in one even though he's not handsome.

I don't believe confidence is the difference.

The sleeves are definitely too short. The 141 is supposed to have that classic wider fit. If you wanted a more slim fit the 530 would have probably been a better option (that's what I have and love it)
Also, it's important to remember that the leather needs to break in and soften up and it will drape and hang better as a result and a lot of that boxiness goes away

not that anon but i have a 641HH myself, and i wish id opted for the steerhide one. the horsehide is super shiney (i just personally dont like it) and stiff, like its just not very comfortable. i guess maybe if you dedicated a lot of time to it wore it every day, it might have some cool patina after 10 yrs or something, but who gives a shit if its heavy, stiff and not comfortable and you dont want to reach for it? just fuck this jacket.

The horse looks nicer as an object, and wears like armor, but the steer is so much more comfortable to wear it's kinda ridiculous.

Personally I prefer my Vanson to both, but when I do reach for a 641 I find myself going for the steer.

I have a Schott 555 I got about a year ago and love it. It’s super heavy and thick which makes it really warm and with the waxy pull-up finish it’s pretty weather resistant. I think nowadays an overstyled leather jacket looks too whack. Something simple like a 555 or any other normal length normal fit style jacket avoids looking larpy

I think my dream jacket style, and I don't want to seem LARPy, is the Indiana Jones jacket. It's basically a modified A2 with the knitting removed and the body and sleeves lengthened to make up for it
